I am a travel writer who chose this flat in Istanbul based on what I love - authenticity with all the comforts of home and easy access to the tourist sites. Most especially views that leave no doubt where you are.
This is a recently renovated flat in an authentic historic neighborhood, just minutes to all the sites. It has 1 enclosed bedroom with bed plus a salon that converts to 1-2 bedrooms with use of 2 new sofa beds. Want to add more enclosed bedrooms and baths? Mix and match with our 2 bedroom flats on the same floor and/or the studio flat 1 floor above to make this a 2-plus bedroom, 2-plus bath.
Views galore from this bright, light flat in a historic building in historic Galata area. With a rooftop terrace just one floor up, it has a view most people who visit Istanbul can only dream about.
BONUS! A free 1-hour session with our personal concierge/guide who can help orient you to the neighborhood and help with logistical matters like where and how to purchase tram tickets. She is available guided tours if you like.
Neighborhood: Just 1 block from Galata Tower. Kabob stands, Turkish music instrument stores, just up the hill from Galata Bridge which leads you to Sultanahmet with its glorious mosques and palaces and the Grand Bazaar - just minutes by tram, or an exhilarating 15 min. walk across the Galata Bridge over the Golden Horn. Restaurants and cafes abound.
A 5 minute walk in the opposite direction and you are at the heart of vibrating Istanbul life - Istiklal Ave. Minutes from Tunel where the city's best live entertainment and dining are. Best of all , you don't even have to leave the flat - you can see it all from your living room/xtra bedroom, balcony and rooftop terrace.Including the ships passing to and fro across one of Europe's oldest harbors as they ply the Bosphorus Strait
The flat is located on the 4th floor (no elevator) of an old building. It is decorated with art, Turkish lamps, antiques, textiles from my travels around the world, eclectic artistic design, has a small balcony off the living room, and whitewashed wood floors throughout. The bathroom is like a small spa with white tiles, a large modern rainfall shower, and teak countertop. There is 1 enclosed bedroom plus a combo living/bedroom suite with view over the Bosphorus. You can combine with either of our 2 bedroom flats on the same floor or the studio flat one floor above. Ask and we can send photos and details about these other properties. The terrace will accommodate large groups in a setting you will not believe.
Dine outside with a view of Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque, the Bosphorus. The terrace has outdoor dining and cooking facilities, all surrounded by the magic of Istanbul...a feast for the eyes and senses. A great place to entertain. Or simply be still with a glass of wine watching the seagulls circle the mosques in the moonlight.
Although our 4 flats in this building have been recently renovated, the building itself is typical "old" Istanbul, i.e. not yet renovated. It is entirely safe and you will love this neighborhood.
It's important to me that you know where you are without having to leave your flat. Your experience of Istanbul will be greatly enhanced by making this flat your home away from home.

Why the Owner Chose Istanbul
Istanbul is my favorite city in the world. It is colorful, vibrant, full of history and the melodious sound of Arabic influenced music and the call to prayer, delicious food, and best of all, the Turks themselves. Turks are the most hospitable people on the planet. If you stay in a hotel in this city, you might not ever learn this fact, which is the biggest reason I rent flats. Once you've "lived" in Istanbul, however briefly, you will never regard Turks in the same way again. This is a country and a city, in the "middle", which is where I like to be philosophically and geographically. What happens in Turkey will determine the future of Middle Eastern relations with the Western world. A very exciting place to be! I chose this neighborhood of Galata because it is up and coming. It is a delightful mix of the old with the new. Enjoy traditional tea gardens side by side with modern restaurants. This neighborhood once the abode of foreigners, mostly Greek, is gradually being gentrified. Enjoy it now while it still shouts TURKEY! (and is close to all the amenities of modernity.) Large group? Ask about my 2+BDRM. flat next door. Rent both at discount.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment
This flat is white and blue with bleached wood floors and lots of sunlight - giving the feeling that you are in a beach cottage. While outside, the mosque and palace rimmed shoreline of Sultanahmet remind you of where you really are - in the most magical city in the world! The bathroom is modern with a big rainfall shower, gleaming white tiles and a teak counter top. The roof terrace above this flat is huge and wonderful for entertaining large groups. Seagulls sweep overhead, you can watch ferries crisscross the Bosphorus and ships from around the world navigate one of its most strategic straits, hear the call to prayer from the mosque-studded skyline. The roof terrace has a small refrigerator, running water and sink, barbecue, outdoor dining furniture, and best of all, a seagull's view of the Bosphorus and Sultanahmet. Really amazing! A view that would cost hundreds of dollars per night in one of Istanbul's hotels. All yours for the length of your stay! Combine with the other 2 flats on this floor for a 10% discount or add our studio flat upstairs for only $80 more per night.
The Coit Tower of Istanbul. Fab views, shows, restaurants and cafes, tea gardens, shopping, small antique stores, wonderful little alleyways.
Traditional turkish musical instruments for sale and the sounds of turkish music wafting through the air.
best restaurants in Istanbul begin here...miles and miles of traditional meyhanes and international restaurants. Alleyways full of delightful little shops.
The beginning of this 2 mile long pedestrian walkway (you can also ride the trolley) with over 1000 restaurants, cafes, bars, live music, shopping, and an amazing night life and great people watching.
Walk across or ride the tram to the Egyptian Spice Market and the Grand Bazaar and all the sites of Sultanahmet. Fab walk past fishermen, ferries crossing under the bridge, fish restaurants...
great area where Turks sip tea, smoke shishas, and the children play on the grass, and everyone watches the ferries come and go.
explore the fresh fish market, watch the ferries, have a fresh fish sandwich at a picnic table next to the water.
wander thru the alleyways and stalls of this old spice market. Amazing! Just over the bridge.
Owner's Map of Istanbul
I am a travel writer who has lived in and traveled to over 2 dozen countries. I always stay in flats and have chosen some of my favorite places on the planet in which to provide apartments for rental to other global travelers. It's the only way to travel in my opinion, as it takes you out of the tourist observer mode and puts you squarely into the the "real" spirit of the Place in which you are traveling. All my flats have the following things in common:
1. located just outside the tourist zone so that you might experience the authentic spirit of Place while being close enough to the sites and transportation to get to the "tourist zone" easily,
2. beautiful views that leave no doubt where you are,
3. At least 2 bedrooms (except for my Terrace 1 flat which has one bedroom and a living/bedroom suite.

My wife and I are from Vancouver, Canada. We stayed in one of Robin's apartments near Galata Tower and had my family from Iran to have a reunion in Istanbul in May of 2008. We were very happy with the look and feel of the apartment, location and her professionalism. We came back to Istanbul again at the end of May 2011 for another family reunion and stayed in another one of Robin's apartments, this time in Cihangir. The experience was even better this time - fantastic apartment, gorgeous view and another amazing location. We really felt part of the neighborhood during our 2-week stay. We would highly recommend her places. If we go back to Istanbul we will absolutely stay in one of Robin's places again.

Don't be dismayed at the first climb up the stairs. The view is worth every bit of it and the apartment itself is great. It is fully equipped, lots of sleeping space, everything you need in the kitchen, located in the middle of a busy, interesting, convenient and fully captivating area. If you are here to see the sights, you can't get a better location. And to save the best for last - the roof top terrace is a tourist site in itself. Seeing the mosques and palaces under a full moon from there across the Bosphorus can't adequately described. It must be seen. And about those stairs - I am 80 and I managed for two months!

My wife and I stayed here for a week in March 2010. The place is comfortable and spacious, with a wonderful view of the water. The beds are nice, the kitchen is well-equipped, and there's a nice shower in the bathroom. The flat is within easy walking distance of good food and shopping. A quick walk down the hill and across the Galata Bridge takes you to the Spice Market and all of the great things to see in the old part of town. It's a fifth floor walk-up, but you won't resent the climb after eating all of the fine Turkish food.
