Le Moulinot is an 18th century Burgundian watermill, set in ten acres of its own grounds between the River Cure and the millpond into which is sunk a natural-looking swimming pool. It is situated at the entrance to the village of Vermenton on the Route Nationale 6, fifteen minutes drive from the A6 Autoroute.
You will find attention has been given to providing comfortable quality of a home with many added small touches. The character of the three storey stone building is created by a mixture of hardwood floors, old tiles, exposed wooden ceiling beams, antique furniture and decorative fabrics. The house is surrounded by terraced areas, with plenty of space to relax in the sun or shade.
Le Moulinot is a five minute walk from the village of Vermenton, which has a restaurant and a good range of shops and services, including a supermarket, a pharmacy, doctors, banks, bars, bakeries, a butcher, a hairdresser, an antique shop, a newsagent/tabac and a railway station. It is possible to travel by train to Paris directly from Vermenton.
The region is sprinkled with cultural and historical treasures: Arcy and its prehistoric caves; the bustling cathedral town of Auxerre with its elegant half-timbered houses; Vézelay, a World Heritage Site where emperors, popes, pilgrims and crusaders gathered; Avallon with its ramparts and Romanesque collegiate church; and the Morvan National Park.
At the site of Guédelon, a fortified castle is being built using the techniques of the 13th century. Next door to Guédelon is an aerial woodland activity park featuring 7 treetop trails for differing levels of ability, using rope bridges and pulleys.
The nearby slopes of Chablis, Irancy and Saint Bris have been the site of vineyards since Roman times. Wine tasting opportunities are plentiful, and a guided tour can be arranged to introduce visitors to the lesser-known gems that our region has to offer. |
