Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Owner built home. Neil bought this property in 1990, and built a house in the trees modeled after the houses built in Kokee in the 1930s (redwood/ cedar shake ) The 'treehouse' style also has a touch of swiss family robinson.
Neil is a Welshman whose surfing spirit brought him first to California and then to Kauai. He has lived on Kauai since 1982, and after many years of 'batching' met South african Sharon in 2003. They married in 2005, and live in the main house. Both love the peace and beauty of this quiet neighborhood, and enjoy talking story with the many travelers from all over the world they meet each year.
The Unique Benefits of this Studio
'Real' Kauai. Owner built and managed. Quiet. Rustic. Central location and yet off beaten track.

Neil and Sharon were AWESOME!!! Definitely want to come back, and stay with them again.. They were so knowledgeable, and were able to point us to the right places.. Thanks Neil and Sharon you guys are AWESOME!! The studio was very comfortable, and provided everything we needed, and it was so centrally located that we were able to get to all over the place without too much driving. We also checked out the tree house, and it looked awesome and would love to stay there next time if we come w/o the kids..
Owner response:Thank you! We look forward to welcoming you back here!

Thanks for sharing your lower house. Despite rain at times, we enjoyed three very nice hikes...especially the Alakai Swamp boardwalk hike to the magnificent blue sky overlook to distant Hanalei bay. Mahalo!

What a wonderful place and island you call home. We had a fantastic time from start to finish. A week is definitely not enough. We're sure you'll be seeing us again! Mahalo for the great place and good times. PS Shoals of Time - great recommendation - adds even more color and context to the beautiful island of Kauai

We had a spectacular time on Kauai and staying in this studio was wonderful. The studio had everything we needed, including beach items. It was the perfect spot for us. Great location for anything you want to do, yet far from the beaten path. Very private and cozy. The rain falling on the leaves outside the lanai was a lullaby to fall asleep by. They left fresh fruit for us to enjoy as well as sweet smelling wild ginger arrangements that created a wonderful fragrance in the entire apartment. We so enjoyed visiting with Neil in the evenings. I'd never met a real "surfer dude" until then! We stayed for two weeks and had a different adventure every day.

We had an absolutely amazing time staying at this house! this is by far the PERFECT location for traveling the entire island. We traveled somewhere different everyday and this was a great central starting point. The house itself is in a quiet cul de sac but its far from what you would consider an ordinary neighborhood! the road that takes you to the house brings you atleast a 1/4 mile from the main highway so you never hear any traffic! it was wonderful to spend our days at the beach surrounded by a ton of million and be able to come back to our studio and only be able to hear the birds in the trees. The house was also exceptionally clean, very cozy! Not to mention the couple that owns the studio are exceptionally nice, even invited us up for wine and talks of travel! We would definitely recommend this studio to anyone! the price is great and you cant get any more off the beaten path than this studio! Hope to return Soon! :)
Owner response:Ah when the 'right' people find the 'right' spot life is magical! Thank you for being such ideal guests.
