"THE FORT" is 13 acres located on Folly Beach, a barrier island only 9 miles from downtown, historic Charleston. The property encompasses 9 acres of marsh land and 4 acres of high ground. On the high ground there are two small houses and private dock; very private living space with great ocean and marsh views, yet accessible to everything. No houses within 1500 feet on oceanfront or marsh.
NO COMPARABLE PROPERTY AT FOLLY BEACH! The Fort is connected to the main road, East Ashley Avenue, by a private causeway. The swimming and surfing beach, known as "The Washout" to locals, is right across the street with unobstructed ocean views. On the river/marsh side the property has a private dock for boats, crabbing, and shrimping. Lots of room to walk and play; 52 different birds sighted; dolphins swim right up to dock.
The Fort was originally a Native American Island. In the Civil War the Union Army used it for storage and fortified it, including building the causeway to the main road. The Union Army used the end of Folly Island to blockade the port of Charleston and a Parrot gun was put on The Fort to shell Fort Sumter. The Main House on The Fort was erected shortly after World War II. The Cottage was constructed in 2003.
The Cottage at The Fort:
One bathroom with tub/shower and two bedrooms. The one bedroom has a queen size bed and opens to a large enclosed furnished porch overlooking the deck, marsh and dock. Second bedroom has 2 twin beds. Sleeps 2/4. It also has a full eat-in kitchen and great room. Large deck off great room/enclosed porch with deck chairs, recliner lounges for the sun worshiper.
NEW CONSTRUCTION with contemporary and comfortable furnishings, ceramic tile floors throughout. It has central heat/air conditioning, outside hot/cold shower, washer and dryer, large refrigerator/freezer w/ice maker, dishwasher, coffee maker, fireplace, and trash compactor. Comforters, blankets, and pillows are provided.

LINENS AND TOWELS NOT INCLUDED. LINENS AND TOWELS CAN BE FURNISHED FOR AN ADDITIONAL FEE OF $20.00. THIS INCLUDES LINENS AND TOWELS FOR 4 GUESTS.

THE FORT ONLY ACCOMMODATES A CERTAIN NUMBER OF RENTERS. THIS WILL PRESERVE THE INTEGRITY OF THE STRUCTURES AND PROPERTY. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF RENTERS PERMITTED IN THE COTTAGE IS 4. IF MORE THAN PERMITTED AMOUNT OF RENTERS ARE IN THE HOUSE YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE. LOCAL FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE WELCOME TO VISIT YOU, BUT NO MORE THAN 10 PEOPLE, INCLUDING RENTERS, PERMITTED ON THE PROPERTY AT ONE TIME. THE PROPERTY MAY NOT BE USED AS A PARKING LOT FOR LOCAL FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO SPEND THE DAY AT THE BEACH.
BEHAVIOR SUCH AS TRASHING OF PROPERTY, GUESTS WHO ARE DRUNK AND DISRUPTIVE, DESTRUCTIVE, ETC. IS UNACCEPTABLE AND YOU WILL BE ESCORTED FROM PROPERTY BY POLICE.
