Creekside at Stinson Beach on 1/4 Acre Steps to Beach and Town

Creekside at Stinson Beach – a truly unique property on a nice quarter-acre of land that melds sweetly into the woods of the neighboring national park lands. Unlike many houses at Stinson, neighboring houses are on one fence only, so the place is quite private. The house is in its own wonderful watershed, almost a little micro-climate, yet only 100 yards from the 3 mile sandy beach. It's a 4-minute walk to the town's three restaurants, the library, market and boutiques.
For spring, summer and fall getaways and all year. We recently installed a beautiful Italian tile walkway around two sides of the house to meet a new set of French doors that open onto the flagstone patio that leads to the hot tub. Also new in 2010 is a large horizontal window in the master bedroom that looks at the woods and mountain from the bed. Very peaceful view.
Available for week-long rentals (half-week rates available sometimes), this charming, classic two-story house features knotty pine ceilings, hard wood floors, a wood stove upstairs, radiant heated tiles floors downstairs, top-of-the-line spa steps from the downstairs bedroom, views of the ocean, three bedrooms and two baths.
It is located next to a lovely fresh water creek teeming with native plants and visited by wildlife, including deer, foxes, bats, ducks, grebes, egrets, hawks, warblers, flycatchers and many others. In March of 2009 we witnessed a 20' steelhead trout spawning below our dining room window! During the summer of 2009 a 3-point buck and doe were living nearby and visited most evenings. Later we enjoyed their fawns running around.
The house is on quarter acre that borders the north end of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area Stinson Beach Park so it feels like you are on a very large piece of land. Sit in the upstairs living room and gaze out at the ocean as the sun streams in the windows. The grassy and forested landscape allows for great exploring with children and quiet contemplative moments in nature.
From the bedroom deck on the back, you are right on the edge of the native willow forest with lovely views to the mountain and the waves. We often see deer, hawks and other wildlife just below. Nice oak floors upstairs and heated tile floors down. Two couches frame an updated fireplace stove that warms the whole room. Table for six looks out on creek with morning sun streaming in for breakfast. We have chairs to seat up to 20 people outside at four tables if you want to entertain.
Decks on three sides of the second floor give you a great sense of loft and perspective among the native willow trees and orange nasturtium blossoms. Flagstone patio leads to great new Hot Spring spa in private spot to relax. Nicely appointed kitchen and lots of space to settle in and find serenity.
Walk 100 yards to beach or 300 to the town. Three great restaurants, take-out pizza at Parkside, and the entire GGNRA (National Park) beach to yourself after the park closes or before it opens at 9 in the morning. We have blackberries, mint and apples growing on the property.
The house sleeps 6-10 with three queen beds and four foam mattresses for kids or friends in the playroom downstairs. Also, you may set up tents in the yard for children or guests (you must bring the tents ;)
Antiques and art that were collected over a span of more than 30 years are found in every room. It's an interesting place, inside and out, for a beach rental . We have a wonderful collection of books, CDs and New Yorker magazines as well.
Call 415.359.7654 or email for availability. We do not have pets and do not wish to have visitors bring pets on the property. $500 deposit and $150 for cleaning required. Generally, we require payment in full before the dates can be secured.

We have just returned from a wonderful two weeks at this home in Stinson Beach. The most amazing feature about it is its privacy. Once you enter the gate off the road, you have entered a green, lush, quiet spot - unique for Northern California. Even on the weekends when Route 1 nearby was bumper to bumper, we were totally visually isolated from that as well as from the neighbors. We saw a mother doe and her two fawns more than once. The side lot is a very unusual feature that draws such wildlife and yet is available through the artistic fish gate for extra parking (very handy when your friends come out for a beach day!) The kitchen was very well equipped and there are plenty of towels, sheets, blankets, etc. Thanks for a wonderful two weeks for our family reunion!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

This was a very special place for our children to connect with nature and the family to relax. The creek is lovely and the trees make it feel like you are in your own little meadow.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Born and raised in San Francisco, Charles has been watching birds and swimming at Stinson Beach since 1970. From 2007 to mid 2012, he worked in Muir Beach as the director of Slide Ranch, an environmental education and farm-based food education program for urban children. His wife and he have two boys, born in 2001 and 2005. As a family, they spent many weekends and summer weeks at the house. The family loves it there and enjoy sharing it with people who appreciate its unique beauty and serenity.
Why the Owner Chose Stinson Beach:
This is a stunning spot in Northern California. Nature, the beach, nice restaurants, many miles of park lands to explore. This is the only property close to the beach that also has wild lands and significant open space next to the house (most beach lots are smaller and sandier - ours is grassy)
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This is the right place for a family that enjoys being in nature. The house is essentially on a wildlife corridor (the creek) amidst wonderful native willow forests, wild flowers and grassy meadows. It feels special and secluded, yet it's a short walk to town for an ice cream, game of basketball or dinner.
