We are two journalists from London and loved this pretty little house - beautifully done, easy to live in and with a glorious view from the balcony over the valley to the trees beyond. We had a week of perfect weather in late August, no bugs but plenty of wildlife - deer, foxes, woodpeckers, humming birds - and friendly neighbours who invited us in for a drink. Great walking and swimming in Minnewaska Park - deep in the wilderness and only 90 mins from Broadway - amazing.

My family enjoyed a month at this lovely house and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We enjoyed using the small but well equipped kitchen, working on the ample tables in the cool downstairs room, and watching the fireflies at night. The owners have taken such thought and care to their charming getaway and decorated with great taste. It was a pleasure to be here, so close to the Mohonk Preserve, climbing, hiking and biking and come home to relax and even get work done. We would definitely recommend this place to others!

Owner response: Summer is a great time to visit. Watering holes abound if you do not want to visit the municipal pool. Minnewaska and Mohonk are a minutes drive for great hiking, not to mention the world-class rock climbing. There are farmers markets, art shows and lots of live music. And when you have had enough you can come home to quiet and peace.
This sweet cottage is the ultimate retreat for a writer or artist needing to recharge. It's surrounded by gorgeous fields, has a lovely screened in porch to watch the seasons. Charming in every way. As a single woman, I found peace in it's decor and nature.

Owner response: It is a wonderful place to get away from it all and commune with yourself. Quiet, but close to everything else. Great spot to write the great American novel!
A wonderful getaway only a short drive from the city.
A wonderful getaway only a short drive from the city.
When I pulled up to the cottage I was immediately charmed by how cozy it looked from the outside, but it is actually much roomier inside than it looks from the outside. This house is beautifully tucked into the picturesque mountains of the Catskills. Lots of nearby hiking, biking and nature trails to explore during the days, but the real treat to this house is the nights, watching the stars and listening to the crickets while on the deck overlooking the huge back yard. The house is very clean and neat and modern in it's decor and conveniences. You are also a short drive away from all the fun little restaurants along the strip in nearby New Paltz. This was a great experience and I can't wait to return the first chance I get!

Why the Owner Chose High Falls:
I come from Colorado and grew up with scenic beauty that's hard to surpass. But this area of upstate New York is so lovely and welcoming. We love this property because it is personal, private and peaceful. And yet we are close to all the amenities: farm stands, library, post office, a rec center with pool. Plus art and performance are readily available. The people are friendly – It's an involved community that has a long history of conserving the land and protecting the environment. It also nurtures artists providing venues and events for their work. And the surroundings are spectacular with every season.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We like living simple and spare and so keep the place uncluttered and clean. It adds to the peace of the place. Just walking in the door is relaxing. And the view really takes you out of yourself. You can read or get drawn into the landscape - so many birds!
