Charming mountain cottage nestled in tall timbers of Ponderosa and Piñon Pine, high mountain meadow, clean mountain air, azure skies and nice views.
Located on the “greenside” of the Sandia/Manzano Mountains just east of the City of Albuquerque, this area has hiking and mountain biking trails, alpine and cross country skiing, golf, restaurants, a gourmet grocery store, galleries, gift shops, and a serene small mountain community feel.
Opportunities for exciting day trips abound. Along the scenic Turquoise Trail there is the old mining community of Madrid now an eclectic artist colony. A few miles north is Santa Fe (the City Different) with its historic plaza, sidewalk Native American jewelry vendors, winter and summer outdoor activities, couture shopping, gourmet eating and the Opera. Bandolier National Monument, an ancient archeological site, the natural Hot Springs of the Jemez and Ojo Caliente, countless, actively inhabited Native American Pueblos, and the Village of Taos situated on the historic Santa Fe Trail is a “must see”. All along the way are spectacular, mountain vistas, huge expanses of blue sky and that difficult to describe “Light” New Mexico is so famous for.
Of course, there’s always "The Duke City" (Albuquerque) with a charm of its own just 20 minute away. A traditional “Old Town” area, art galleries, museums, good eating, state of the art casinos, concerts, entertainment and golf. The Bosque trails along the Rio Grande River, the historic communities of Corrales and Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, the Zoo, Botanic Gardens, Isotopes Baseball, the Tram up to Sandia Ski Peak, and so much more.
In the summer you may be tempted to just spend the day “hanging out” at the cottage exploring one of the trails close by in the morning, enjoying a good novel on the deck in the afternoon, anticipating a terrific meal of just picked fresh veggies from the garden and Mahi on the grill. Let the gentle rhythm of the cool mountain breeze lull you into a snooze in the hammock and wake up refreshed before an exciting evening on the town.
In the winter after a fast day on the slopes take a relaxing soak in the outdoor Hot Tub, count the stars or watch the snow fall quietly on the pines. Maybe just stay in one day and cozy up on the sofa in front of the wood stove with hot chocolate in hand and watch a good movie.
Just a stones throw up the road you can experience a bit of local color when you pick up the newspaper at the funky little convenience store, grab your morning latte at the cute little coffee spot across the street, and for dinner relish in a juicy steak, authentic “New Mexico Mex”, or a phat burger and fries at the rustic roadhouse that also has live music on the weekends. Come to the Land of Enchantment, and stay at Pine Bough Cottage. During any season, a splendid time is guaranteed for all! |
