Wonderful Home - Perfect Time and Extremely Nice Owner!!

Date of Stay: 02/16/12 Review Submitted: 03/20/12

We had the most amazing time in this home!! It was two couples and a dog, and we stayed for a long weekend in mid February. The communication between myself and the owner was great, everything was extremely easy to use and work with and she provided very detailed information to review prior to going. The home itself is so cute, quaint, comfortable, and clean. The house is located in a quiet area surrounded by woods, which gave the perfect backdrop to this relaxing weekend. We spent the weekend cooking in the large and modern kitchen and reading in front of the wood burning stove. Woodstock is a cute little home just 10 minutes away. We took a few short hikes in the surrounding countryside, it really is relaxing and beautiful. There is also a steam shower and sauna, which were extremely clean and a nice way to relax at the end of the day. I can't say enough about the wonderful experience and can't wait to stay in this home again!

My wife and I had a great time on a long weekend over the new year. The place is beautiful and equipped with a great kitchen. It is also surrounded by wilderness. We enjoyed walks and hikes that began when we stepped out the door.

Perfect way to spend Christmas

Guest: Naomi (Jersey City, NJ)
Date of Stay: 12/23/11 Review Submitted: 12/28/11

We had a wonderful stay in this cozy, charming home over the Christmas break. It's a perfect getaway from NYC, conveniently located just two hours away. We took full advantage of the sauna and steam shower, and even got to enjoy the many porches around the house during a warmer part of the day. The woods aroun the house are gorgeous, and our puppy tired himself out running laps. The best part of this stay was how homey and well stocked the home felt. The owners had left wood for us to stock the wood burning stove, and we enjoyed playing with some of the boardgames that were in the living room. Overall, I would highly recommend this place. It's the perfect size for two couples... but don't wait to find someone else to join you! I'd take full advantage of this place with just one other lucky person :)

Serene, relaxing week at this lovely house

Guest: AC (New York)
Date of Stay: 08/20/11 Review Submitted: 09/27/11

The property is secluded and private, surrounded by beautiful woods, yet the house itself gets plenty of light. It's cozy yet modern, tastefully decorated, and it had nearly everything we needed. We appreciated the information the owners left with recommendations for nearby hikes, swimming holes and yoga classes, all of which we took advantage of, and we lit fires in the outdoor fire pit and roasted smores at night. It's a great property for kids, with a big, level yard and room to roam in the nearby woods. The steam shower is also heavenly! Only downsides were that it was a chilly week and we couldn't use the woodstove, but look forward to using it next time; and that there is only one bedroom with a door. Small potatoes though, and overall a fabulous experience in a gorgeous area. I wish I were there right now!

Owner response:Thanks, you were a delight, please come back any time. The brand-new woodstove is now ready for use -- the fire is lovely to watch and keeps the place toasty (of course, there are other heat sources in every room as well). The second bedroom is a light and airy space that fills the second floor. While there is no way to put a door on the circular staircase leading to it, the room feels quite private. No one can see in, without climbing the stairs, and it is some distance from the other bedroom and common spaces. With its private deck and loft-like feel, this room is often a favorite space.

We had a wonderful stay in the Woodstock retreat. The house is well maintained and the photos accurately reflect the property. The location is ideal because you are truly in the woods, yet only a 10-15 minute drive to restaurants and shopping. Although we had rain for half of our stay, the house is comfortable and all the windows make you feel like you are still outdoors. There are two outdoor decks on the first floor in addition to the screened in porch so our big decision was where to drink our morning coffee! It was a perfect get away if you just want to relax and read, yet if you want to take advantage of the catskill mountains there is easy access to hiking, flyfishing, and kayaking. The owners are extremely helpful in providing information about the house and the area. Karyn provided detailed info about everything you can imagine...it was like having a personal concierge with all of her advice. Everything was explained in detailed in writing about using things in the house and they were readily accessible to answer any questions and concerns. We would highly recommend this property to those wanting a mountain escape.

Fab Woodstock Getaway

Guest: Jonathan (NYC)
Date of Stay: 12/30/10 Review Submitted: 01/04/11

Just spent New Years at this house, it was fantastic. Pictures of this house don't do it justice really. Great eat-in kitchen, well stocked with pots, pans, spices for cooking, and a great sun drenched living room for lounging. Very comfortable, well built and good layout, lots of linens and blankets, good beds. Enjoyed hiking right out the door into the wilderness, as did our two dogs. Short drive into Woodstock town.

Owner response:It's true, the photos underplay the unique feel of the space. Please, send along any that do a better job of conveying its charm!

My husband and I, along with our two pups rented this home in December. The house is absolutely beautiful and the location is perfect! If you're looking to get away, this is the place to be. The house was very clean and well equipped. It had everything we needed and more! It even came with lots of snow! It really set the mood. The dual fireplaces, the steam shower and the dry sauna was all I needed during this mini vacation. We didn't have to go anywhere, which is exactly what we wanted. Karyn was so great to deal with from beginning to end. Absolutely no complaints! My husband and I are looking forward to going back!

Paradise!

My husband, three-year old daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay! This house is very clean, beautifully decorated and filled with light. It is located just outside of Woodstock and is easily accessible but just secluded enough. There is also a wonderful, warm vibe; it felt as if we had been invited to stay at a friend's home for the weekend. Karyn is great to deal with and I could tell that she put a lot of effort into making our stay a great one. I really appreciated her personal guide to the area, which was very helpful when choosing restaurants and activities. We hope to visit again soon! I would recommend this place without hesitation! Thanks Karyn!

A Lovely & Relaxing Woodsy Retreat

Guest: Daphne (Brooklyn, NY)
Date of Stay: 10/08/10 Review Submitted: 10/20/10

I've rented this house twice now, and both times was very pleased. (And hope to return!) The location is perfect -- quiet, which was our first requirement -- and near both Phoenicia and Woodstock. Great hiking nearby, and the pond is very close and lovely. The owners obviously use this house regularly because it's furnished and decorated tastefully and thoughtfully, is very well-maintained and clean, and the kitchen reflects that they're serious about cooking. The three decks, all facing different directions to catch the sun at different times, are a big plus as well, as is the screened-in porch, and the great skylights that catch lots of natural light. If you're looking for a relaxing peaceful retreat, I highly recommend it!

Lovely country getaway

We enjoyed a wonderful week in Woodstock staying at this lovely home. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was roomy and well-stocked, and we had a great time barbecuing and making smores in the campfire pit. The sauna was an added bonus. The house is on a beautiful wooded piece of land, with plenty of deer and salamanders to delight our children. Well located right in between Woodstock and the tiny, authentic old Catskills town of Phoenicia. Also, just a few minutes down the road from the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary.

Wow!! What a wonderful retreat. The wildlife viewing was amazing. To sit on the east patio and feel the cool breezes during the day was a true reprieve from our Florida heat. The local market, restaurants and music also was a big enjoyment and surprise. Thank you for sharing your peaceful paradise. J and J Palm Beach Gardens, FL

What a wonderful tranquil space to relax and recharge. The house and surroundings are fantastic. You can star gaze at night and look out the window in the morning at a host of nature's wonders. The house is close enough to the Berkshires for an afternoon trip and convenient to Woodstock and Saugerties for shopping.

Having stayed here each summer for the past 4 years, obviously the welcoming presence of the house & its surroundings keep us coming back: from cooking in the lovely kitchen to boardgames played on the screened-in porch to waking to a view of the woods in the back bedroom to morning coffee & the paper on the side deck - I'm hooked!

We loved this home in the woods. The property is so private, surrounded by woods in all directions, yet close enough to Woodstock that we could participate in any level of activity we wanted. We made a fire in the lovely stone fire ring one night, and gazed in awe at a sky filled with stars. Next morning we went for a dip in the pond (brrrr -- so refreshing), and felt our country life was almost complete. After we made lunch in the incredibly big kitchen (equipped to the max) we knew we would be coming back here for years.

What a delightful house! It's airy, sunny and welcoming. Nothing beats sitting on the deck star-gazing after a dip in the pond. Lots of great places to walk and hike or just to relax. I've been here twice with friends (4 or 5 people) and hope to return.

This is a great place! We often saw deer and wild turkeys practically in the front yard, and the pond is amazing - I could easily sit on the grassy bank all afternoon with a book, sunbathing, swimming and enjoying the quiet. We also drove 15 minutes to visit an amazing Tibetan Monastery and walked along the reservoir (it supplies all NYC with water!) where a pair of bald eagles are nesting and we were lucky enouth to see an eagle each time we went. Altogether a great house at a great location! Also great owners who make each stay a pleasure!
