September Special. $ 400.00 per Night
This beautiful home is located on the East Shore of Lake Almanor. An all weather paved road is open all year for summer and winter access. The home is steps from the very large private beach and close enough that you can hear the water lapping at the shore.
It faces West to capture the incredible sunsets and views of Mt Lassen. The large deck has a built-in gas BBQ. In addition there is a gas patio heater, and lots of room for tables and chairs and is also steps from the large beach, dock, horseshoe pit and basketball hoop.
Tall pines shade the house from most sun but do not block your expansive views of this very large lake. Good fishing can be found at Lake Almanor with several varieties of fish. Small mouth bass is best right off of the large boat dock. Trout can also be seen and caught from the dock.
A fishing boat and kayak are also provided. In addition to the dock there is also a boat launching ramp and an anchor buoy if you have your own boat. The inside of this home is truly remarkable with a large brick and rock fireplace, two story open beam ceiling, large kitchen with breakfast island, sun room/dining room with great views of the lake, 4 bedrooms and two baths.
The house is cooled by the tall pines, many windows, sliding doors and a large cooler. The garage has air filled water toys to play in the water. Bikes are provided and there are many bike trails in the area, including one that runs around part of the lake and another that runs along an abandoned railroad line next to the Susan River and 30 miles to Susanville, California.
Bald Eagles and Ospreys nest near the house and are seen almost daily fishing for their dinner right in front of your door. Hearing them call to one another is truly remarkable and occasional fights occur. This home is very private, yet on a main road and close to restaurants, gas, shopping, and Chester California, the Gateway to Lassen National Park.
Many of the rentals nearby are either condo's or houses in a group setting and not really right on the lake, and are usually crowded with other renters. Many of them are on coves or inlets that become dry when the lake drops during the summer. Here you are always right on the water and really by yourselves. There are neighbors, but most are summer homes that are stayed in infrequently.
Staying here during the winter is truly magical and with the plowed main road if there has been snow. The lake is very calm in the winter, perfect for cruising the lake in our kayak. We have been out January 1st, the lake was like glass and the temperature was 50 degrees, hot on the water and no one around. There are 2 snowmobile parks nearby plus numerous trails for snowmobiling and cross country skiing. A major ski resort is also in the works for the area.
Other times the beauty of the snowfall on the lake and forest is really breathtaking. Families staying at Lake Almanor and this wonderful home have made never to forget lifetime memories. Our children and grandchildren never want to leave the lake and want to spend the majority of the time on the beach.
Weddings are becoming popular at our house and an area has been created for this purpose with grass, a center path/walkway and ceremony area. With the Lake as a background, it doesn't get anymore special than this.
Summer fills up fast so please check our calendar for availability.
Note the very low off season rates and we do offer a 5% discount to returning renters. Please inquire about dates that are shown to be unavailable as cancellations do occur and there is no deposit required for being on the waiting list.
Everything is provided - linens, towels, paper products, soap products, cleaning products, beach towels, and beach chairs. Bring your clothes and your food and truly enjoy your vacation.
Larger groups can be accommodated with other nearby rentals. We have accommodated groups of 27 or more.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1998
Cheryl is a speech pathologist in private practice.
Don has been a Realtor for over 20 years.
Both now work part time in the Reno Carson City area of Nevada.
When we are not at the lake or working we travel a lot in our motor home, visit friends and relatives and use VRBO to book our lodging. Our children and grandchildren travel with us frequently, but their favorite trip is still the lake.
We have 5 children and 9 grandchildren who have grown up at Lake Almanor.
All of the grandchildren, except 2 very small ones, have learned to water ski from our beach. They all love the beach, the boats, the water, and all enjoy fishing. The oldest, 10 year old Claudia, caught a 5 pound Brown Trout this summer at the lake. Nick, one of the 6 year olds, caught a 28 pound Salmon this summer over in Oregon.
Why the Owner Chose Lake Almanor
We had a very small cabin at nearby Buck's Lake. Our family was expanding and we needed a place where everyone could gather and still have some separate space. The Buck's Lake cabin was too small. One of my friends said you had to go outside just to change your mind.
We searched for an entire summer for just the right lake and then just the right house. We looked at everything. We saw this house, it wasn't for sale at the time, and said how great it would be if it was for sale. One month later it was. We looked at it the day after it came on the market. Cheryl stood in the entryway and got goose bumps as she took it all in. The tall ceiling, rock and brick fireplace, wood walls and tile floors. Not to mention the views from just about everywhere in the house. The doors were open and you could hear the waves rolling up to the beach. This house had everything and even more than we hoped for. The house was hand crafted by the seller including making the cabinets, the center island, the solarium, the doors, the rock and brick work, the outside stone BBQ. We could tell this was a labor of love. We bought our lakehouse the following day.
The Unique Benefits of this House
I do not think there are any houses closer to the water than ours. When the lake retreats in the summer, it never gets very low and you just end up with more beach. We have removed almost all of the rocks from the beach and built a large dock to go along with the boat launching ramp. The beach is very wide, shallow slopped with no drop offs, safe for the kids, and is very private.
There are numerous shaded and sunny areas to sit and relax and still be near to the beach or house. You can play horeshoes or basketball while watching the kids in the water or cooking your dinner on one of 2 BBQ grills. One gas, one bricket.
We have equipped the house with everything you can need. Lots of cookware, utensils, glasses, cups, bowls, everything we could think of to make your stay easy and memorable. Crockpot, waffle maker, mixer, blender, coffee pot and filters, mixing bowls, baking supplies and even spices. In addition there is always enough paper products for your entire stay. Plastic silverwave. cold and hot cups, large and small paper plates, and even napkins. If you prefer to wash dishes we have left you dish soap, dishwasher soap and even hand soap. We even have included the toilet paper, foil, plastic wrap, large and small bagies, and large garbage bags.
Inside the dining table will seat 8-12, plus the center island breakfast bar has 4 chairs. There is also a second pull out table for serving or additional seating. Ouside there is a large glass table that seats 10 or more, plus another long folding table with additional chairs. In addition there is a covered swing for 2, several benches, lounge chairs, sitting chairs, a hammock, several beach chairs, beach towels, hot and cold outdoor shower with an enclosure, and a patio heater.

There is a level of expectation when paying this price, and these accommodations do not meet it. Carpets not vacuumed, linens not cleaned, cobwebs throughout, trash not emptied, refrigerator dirty, screen doors ripped, etc... Security deposit returned 2 months later. Prior to paying, I wish I would have known that renters are expected to do all the laundry/linen cleaning before checking out, a system that does not guarantee incoming party of cleanliness. Prior to paying, I wish I would have know that renters are also required to pack out and dump all their own trash. I have never experienced quite a system. Lake Almanor and Mt. Lassen happen to be spectacular!
Owner response:Beware of Nina and David from San Clemente California and according to VRBO, they cannot help you if anyone lies in their review of your vacation rental. Nina and David didn't list their names in the review as others always do. You just cannot satisfy everyone. David called us and said the carpets were not cleaned when they arrived and there were other problems. I offered to send over the cleaners to fix problems and David told me not worry about it, his wife was fixing everything. I called later and he said his wife spent 90 minites cleaning. When I returned their deposit, I included an extra $ 50 to say "thank you". The deposit was sent to them before the month was out and cashed 34 days after they departed, not the 2 months as they claim. In fact, the refund check was cashed 9-28-11 and the review submitted 4 days later on 10-02-11. I do not think anyone would summit a review like that until they did receive their deposit back. I think that would confirm that she lied in her review. I also asked for a detailed list of the cleaning problems. He replied; bathroom and laundry trash not emptied, one bedroom had dirty sheets, dirty laundry in laundry room, and cobwebs in house. Because of this complaint, the cleaning service was fired. Also they were very well aware of their responsibilities as far as laundry and garbage. When they paid for their rental they signed paperwork that was highlighted stating what was required of them. They also received additional information sheets detailing everything. Nina or David never said they had a problem with any of it. Since this incident, we have hired new cleaners and they do everything. Strip and make the beds, do the laundry, take care of the garbage and all of the cleaning. We did this to insure that no one is inconvenienced during their stay or at checkout and welcome any constructive suggestions and remarks. Thank you all for staying with us.

This property is on the eastern shore of Lake Almanor, which gives you a wonderful view of Mount Lassen that you won't get if you stay on the peninsula. It has its own private dock and plenty of outdoor seating. This lakefront property is more expensive, but being right on the lake is great because you don't have to schlep all your stuff down to a beach, and you can just pop back in the house every time you need something. It has four bedrooms (five if you rent the guesthouse also), but there is an extra charge if you have more than 8 people. I do NOT recommend renting the guest cottage. It's a charming little house, but the bed has a huge dip in the middle and was not comfortable for two people. In addition, the bedroom window is right next to the highway, which has big logging trucks going up and down all night. The owner wasn't kidding when he said it's stocked with plenty of towels, kitchen things, plates, silverware, paper products -- everything you can think of -- so you don't need to pack all that stuff. Another nice touch is that there's a ping pong table and other outdoor toys for the kids. The only downside to our whole experience was checking out. You need to be out by 11 am, and you have to wash all the sheets and towels for both the main house and the guest cottage and make the beds. (There's an extra set of sheets for each room, so you can make the beds while you're waiting for the sheets to dry.) We should have made everyone take their showers the night before, but we didn't realize how long it would take. You also have to take all your trash for the whole week with you. There was a fairly significant cleaning charge, so we were left wondering what kind of cleaning service doesn't do laundry, doesn't take out the trash, and doesn't make the beds. It certainly didn't end the vacation on a high note, but we will nonetheless treasure the memories of our week at Lake Almanor.

What do we say about our week at "The Lake House", as we called it? The word wonderful comes to mind, along with fabulous, restful, enjoyable, etc. We had a mini family reunion with people coming from as far away as CT and Las Vegas. Everyone had a wonderful time. The young people rented a pontoon boat and thorougly enjoyed using it. Some people went fishing. Some lounged and others made numerous trips to the grocery store in Chester. Mountain air sure makes one hungry! The house was well-stocked with everything one could need and was very comfortable. We loved the sun room and played many games at that table. It was nice to wake up in the morning and see Mt. Lassen from the bedroom window! Thank you, Don and Cheryl, for making our reunion so enjoyable and we have many pictures to bring back wonderful memories.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful house with us. We have been staying in many vacation houses, but have never seen one like this one. The house is so clean, organized, and beautiful. You are so thoughtful in everyway that I could name. Each time we need something, we can find it right away easily. We had such a good time there. The only thing that we regret is that the time we staying there was too short. Thank you for making our first time in Lake Almanor an unforgetable trip. We will be back. Tina and Randy Nguyen P.S. You are right about the sunset. It is so magnificent.

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay at your wonderful, homey cabin. We loved it! We had a great time on the lake and felt so at home in your cabin. It was very comfortable. It was great to wake up every morning and see the lake and we spent a lot of time on the dock. I can't believe how organized your house is!!! I wish my home was half as oganized as yours. Your house is so well equipped and so easy to find things. We had some great family times and will have very fond memories of this special place. Thanks Again for everything. The McPherson's.
