Travel back in time to the quaint villages and outdoor beauty of the Green Mountains in this sprawling Vermont vacation home! You will enjoy all the comforts of home and more as you awaken every morning from a deep and restful country sleep, gaze through the French doors at the beautiful misty mountains, and brew a cup of steaming French Roast coffee to enjoy on the balcony in your bathrobe.
Maybe you don't even need to leave the house today after all. You can wander between our 3 living rooms, Great Room and Sun Room, trying to decide which one has the coziest spot for curling up with your coffee. Or maybe you'd rather decide which of our 3 decks and patios has the sunniest spot. Or you could wander up the back yard to the pond, relax in an Adirondack chair and watch the fish jump. But if all this fresh air has you feeling like a kid again, head for the tree swing in our big, gorgeous maple! You can hardly tear yourself away, but there are so many wonderful things to explore in Dorset and Manchester!
Rush hour (Vermont Style) consists of watching the goldfinches, chickadees and nuthatches take turns acrobatically swooping into the feeders for breakfast. Charming antique shops await 3 minutes away on Dorset Green, and 7 minutes away in Manchester Center. Not to mention the highly-acclaimed Southern Vermont Art Center, the historic Hildene House (former home of Robert Todd Lincoln) and the famous Vermont Country store. There are many activities all year round, including the Manchester Summer Horse Festival, Art Fairs, Sunday Farmers' Markets, outlet shopping, golf, fishing, canoeing, horse-back riding and don't forget incredible hiking. Exploring covered bridges in the area is a cherished favorite pastime. All of these activities and more are within a 30 minute radius!
When you return home for the evening, enjoy an outdoor game of badminton, volleyball, croquet or bocce ball in the back yard or relax by the pond. Then head indoors, light a wood fire in the huge stone fireplace in the Great Room and curl up on the overstuffed sofa with a good book, play some Scrabble (we have lots of games), or watch a little TV on our 40' High Def flat screen with DVR and Blu-Ray player. Bring along a few DVD's you've been trying to find time to watch, or try your hand at one of our 17 Wii games and Guitar Hero. We have high-speed wireless internet and unlimited free long distance calling if you need to catch up on a few things. You'll also love our Sonos Rhapsody and Pandora internet-based music system! Listen to just about any song ever recorded at the touch of a button on the 3 music zones around the house and outdoors by the hot tub.
For dinner your first night, bake a delicious Chicken Pot Pie from historic Dorset Union General store on Dorset Green. But be sure to venture out for a great meal at one of the many award-winning restaurants close by. Bring your favorite recipes from home to cook up a feast in our well-appointed and newly remodeled kitchen with breakfast bar, then gather everyone in the formal dining room for a cozy fireside meal. After dinner it's time to relax and watch the sunset over the mountains in our very private 7 person jetted hot tub, or roast marshmallows around the outdoor fire pit while gazing at the incredible Milky Way!
Dorset is a quaint location in every season. In the spring you will enjoy our gorgeous lilac bushes in full bloom and the budding birch trees, and be sure to visit a real maple syrup 'sugar shack'. In summertime, you must take a swim in the local favorite swimming spot, the Dorset marble quarry...and don’t forget the picnic lunch. In fall our stately maple trees and mountainsides are ablaze with color and in winter you must skate on our pond, sled down our hill and take a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride!
Our little hamlet of Dorset, Vermont is located in the Southwest corner of the state, only 4 hours drive from New York City and 3 hours from Boston. If you fly in, Albany, New York is the closest major airport, and Dorset is 1:15 minutes northeast by car. Burlington, Vermont is 2 hours north of us, and Manchester, New Hampshire is about 2:30 minutes east of us. We know you'll fall in love with Dorset just as we did. We can't wait to have you as our guests!

Owlswood was a dream from the moment we first caught sight of it as we drove up the hill. The tree swing, the setting, the peacefulness away from it all made us feel relaxed and away from crazy day-to-day, never-ending running around. The beds were all very comfortable, the entire house was very clean, well-stocked with everything you need for your stay. We were 6 children (ages from 3-14) and 2 adults...and one very happy golden retriever. The layout of the home is wonderful. Every window that you look out has a beautiful view, the stereo system that let's you play any artist you can think of in different areas of the home was a big hit with all of us. The lower area of the home that has a ceiling to floor wall of windows was everyone's favorite spot inside of the house...what a beautiful, peaceful view. We will definitely be going back to Owlswood again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This is by far the most beautiful home I have ever rented from VRBO and we have been renting every summer...most lovely homes... in a different location for at least 10 years. The home was immaculate but I believe the pictures do not do it justice. There is an AC in the upper part of the house, that makes it very comfortable but It was a very hot week in Vermont, so the only suggestion I would make is to put an additional AC in the lower level. The adults hung out in the "upper house" but the kids enjoyed the lower end of the house(3 gorgeous living rooms but warm in the afternoons), playing Jeopardy and guitar hero only when they weren't swimming in the quarry, running long distance, relaxing in the hot tub or playing games in the kitchen area with the rest of the family. We had a big group, my husband, myself and four teens, my brother and his teenage daughter and my mother who is elderly and on oxygen. She felt like a queen in the suite with her own bathroom and television to escape the hustle and bustle of the house when she needed to. The property is beautiful, we enjoyed s'mores at the fire pit, just having down time together, shopping at the quaint shops in Dorset and in Manchester center. As promised I take the kids to an amusement park once a year and this year was six flags in NY(about an hours ride), and I was amazed that they really had more fun at the house and the quarry and were anxious to get back to our "home". I would totally recommend this property to any large group, everything you need is right there. The owner Suzanne was wonderful to work with and she has local people to help should you need it. (we did not need it) I might mention we booked this home 2 years in advance(It wasn't available during my vacation time last year) and it was well worth the wait. Our teens are heading off to college so we won't be able to do these family trips again at least not for several years and we loved every minute of this vacation. I'm so glad we created such a memorable week in such a beautiful and relaxing setting.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

Where do I (we) begin. Thank you Suzanne, your home was the perfect setting for our annual holiday celebration. We all loved the home, its amenities, the property, pond, fire pit and the overall comfort it provided our group, it couldn't be beat. There wasn't a thing we lacked, and we tend to go overboard with our holiday celebrations. Our first Thanksgiving in Vermont was 1989, and we can honestly say now in our 22nd year of celebrating the holiday in Vermont, your home was the perfect setting to provided the warmth, fun and laughter we were looking for. You were spot on with everything, the sound system wowed the crowd, and the hot tub was a nice bonus enjoyed by all. Your instructions were a great help, that's how I found the carving knife for the turkey. Space was perfect, the "boys", and I use that term loosely as they are off to college in another year, commandeered the living room, and enjoyed the space and privacy the 3 rooms offered. The college girls had the bunk room, and the adults enjoyed the family room with plenty of comfy seating, fireplace, tv, & music and I dare not forget how we enjoyed the sunroom and its morning view of Myrick Mountain. We thank you too Suzanne for your quick response to a cooking issue we ran up against, after we spoke, I felt we new each other for years. We hope to return again and again, your home is really the perfect setting, and thank you for making it available to us.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Five female friends decided to spend a weekend away together and this is the house we chose. Boy, did we hit the jackpot! Ever have one of those dreams where you find an extra, beautiful room in your house that you never knew was there? This house was my dream come true! The house is so sprawling, we didn't even discover the laundry room until Sunday! Let's start from the beginning... Communication with the owner was prompt, friendly, efficient and incredibly detailed. All the information she provides is geared towards enhancing your stay. She obviously just trusts that her renters will care for her beloved home, and freely gives them access to all of its pleasures. The house is immaculate, the beds fully made up when you arrive. The kitchen is fully equipped. The living quarters are beautiful and cozy and have a soul. Some rentals I have had have not felt "lived in". This house has obviously been well used and loved, but still has its own elegance and is not run down in the slightest. The outdoor living spaces are just as perfect. The view from the hot tub is amazing. Go around the house to the back and there is a lovely deck off the kitchen with yet another beautiful view. Am I going over the top here? I just know that I have rented many homes in the last few years (always with good luck), but this one took the cake. We could not come up with one complaint and we were a group of 5 diverse, picky women. My only hesitation in posting this review is letting the secret out! We are definitely going back! Thank you again, Suzanne, for a spectacular weekend!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

This was the perfect place for a weekend getaway! My son and a friend fell in love with the Sonos system and both are writing letters to Santa in hopes that they will get one of their very own! My daughter loved the hot tub and the moms all loved the fact that we could put the kids to bed and still have a space to stretch out, relax and talk. I, personally, fell in love with the Northshire Bookshop—I could have spent an entire day there and still not have had enough! Thanks for accommodating us on such short notice—my husband’s interest has been piqued and he is already trying to find a way to do a winter ski vacation based on our rave reviews!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

My wife, my three year old son, my best friend, and I enjoyed a four day stay in this beautiful house in August. It could not have been better! The house was very clean, incredibly spacious, and perfectly located just minutes from the outlets and from hiking and swimming. If you have kids, this is the perfect place! The house is sprawling, with three living rooms, two of which extend to the opposite side of the house, far from the bedrooms; a perfect layout for parents looking to sleep in while the little early-risers play on the Wii, or play some board games. Not to mention the property. The yard gives more than enough room for the kids to run around, and even play around the little pond and feed the fish. At night we loved the fire pit and the hot tub as we took in the fresh cool air. Oh, and the real surprise was the night sky! The location serves as a great place to see the stars! Sitting in the soothing hot tub staring up at the amazing night sky was like a dream! Often after many vacations I find myself looking forward to going home and sleeping in my bed. Here is one unique treasure where I didn't want to leave! I will definately be coming back again here soon!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful Vermont house. We could not have had a better time anywhere else. It was my first time in Vermont and what a great memory and perfect spot to be. The pictures do not do the property enough justice. There are the perfect amount of bedrooms to accomodate several couples yet set up to have just enough seclusion and privacy. The house is well maintained, tastefully decorated and had such a relaxing homely feeling. The views from all around the house are breath taking. Especially from the hot tub and lower sitting room! We had such a blast sledding down the driveway and down the street and ice skating on the pond! I just can not say enough about our new favorite get away :) and all the ammenities that were offered. What a beautiful place in a beautiful town and area! Thank you soo much and hope to be back again SOON!! Your friends in New HampshireDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This maybe a little late but we stayed at Owlswood over Thanksgiving week, 2009 and let me just say that it was awesome!! The house was so wonderful and very inviting. The fireplace and hot tub were simply amazing. It was everything it said it would be and so much more. We give it two thumbs up, way up!! Can't wait to return this year, this will definately be our new family tradition. We have been coming up to VT for over 30 years now and we can't seem to get enough. The owner, Suzanne, was so wonderful to deal with and very accomadating to us in every way. Thank you and we will look forward to our next visit in November!!!!Did you find this review helpful? Wow! What a great time and what a lovely house. Let me tell you - I looked like a hero to the girls because I had found Owlswood. We spent a lot of time relaxing in the hot tub, napping in front of the fire (yup that would be me), having too many margaritas and generally just forgetting the real world (husbands, kids, jobs, etc.) for a weekend. The space was perfect. I host our family's Thanksgiving celebration where we cram 20+ people into my little three bedroom home and when I saw your home's three living rooms, two dining areas and wet bar space I was very jealous! Thank you for letting us stay and I would love to be back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This is a beautiful home, spacious, private and with great views of the Vermont mountains (particularly from the floor to ceiling windows in the sun room). The informality of the great room contrasts with the formality of the dining and living rooms. The back deck is a secluded area for informal meals or a quiet place for a drink or cup of coffee. This is our second year here and we plan to return next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1999
About the owner: Hi, I'm Suzanne and I live in Cincinnati, Ohio. I moved there in 2000 when I was hired as an airline pilot. Cincinnati is a fantastic city, but I love coming back to the beautiful peace and quiet of the Green Mountains in Dorset, Vermont any chance I get. I know you will too!
Why the Owner Chose Dorset:
My mother purchased our family vacation home in Dorset, Vermont in 1999. It was always her dream to own a home in Dorset ever since at age 18 she joined the Dorset Playhouse Players and did summer stock theater in 1959 with Dom DeLuise, his wife Carol Arthur and many others. Dorset made its way into all their hearts, and they also own homes in Dorset. After long days rehearsing plays and building sets they would cool off by jumping into the marble quarry down the road. It's still our favorite tradition every summer! Dorset will find its way into your heart too and become a beloved destination you will cherish always.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
What I love about our home is how spacious and sprawling it is. No matter how large your group is, you can always find a quiet place to call your own. From the numerous comfy couches and living areas inside, to the many decks and patios outside, the picnic table and kids' barn shed hangout by our pond, or the tree swing in the big maple, there are so many places to relax and enjoy! But what I love most is throwing open the French doors at night and sleeping with the cool fresh mountain air breezing in, then waking up to the sound of the birds. It is so peaceful and quiet that I forget the rest of the world exists.
