On November 16th our first snow fell in Mineral, elevation 5,000 feet. The cross country skiing conditions are superb here, with miles of logging trails, availble without charge. Mineral is the start of the miles long groomed trails for free use, by skiers and snow mobilers. We are situated two hundred yards from this trail head. Overnight tent snow camping -for the hardy - is allowed in the park by ranger permit. Skiing is free. Sound like a fiary tale. Well. I suppose it does, but then Lassen is a fairy tale of snow and forests. So come on up families, and enjoy.
The town of Mineral is a pleasant four hour drive from the San Francisco Bay Area through some of the most interesting and prosperous farm lands of California.
There are two small airports near Mineral, each thirty miles away, one at Red Bluff and the other at Chester, on the shores of Lake Almanor.
Another plus at Lassen has been with the recent opening, year round, of the brand new state-of-the-art, south entrance, visitor center (Kohm yah-mah-nee) with its parking, warmth, restaurant, and rest rooms.
The super news is, that the Northern California's Mount Lassen Volcanic National Park fees remain the same at $10.00 per car or van load of any number, for a period of seven days.
We have three chalets adjacent to each other, see listing #188306 and @188315, and together can accomodate a total of 34 people. A great venue for reunions, family gatherings, religious retreats, or school field trips. Our rentals are the closest accomdations - a twenty minute drive - to the Lassen Volcanic National Park, one of two active volcanoes in the Continental USA.
Lassen is a beautifully forested park with some incredible examples of steam shrouded volcanic scenes, such as Bumpass Hell.
