Why the Owner Chose Asheville

We love the mountains of NC and moved to this area in 1987. We raised our children on this farm and now are still enjoying the farm as a vacation rental.

The Unique Benefits at this Historic Farm House

Sunflower Farm is a place to come and relax! We boarder a beautiful stream that runs the length our property where you can sit and listen to the water or let the kids play in the stream. We grow all different kinds of vegetables and encourage our guests to pick some for their own meals. We plant a variety of flowers in an acre of gardens and always welcome our guests with a fresh boquet on the dining room table. The swimming pool is very large, 20x40 feet, and there is a gazebo with comfy wicker furniture to lounge and read. Nearby (only 10 min. from the farm) is our favorite hike in the Pisgah National Forest, called Stair Creek Trail.

Owner's Map of Asheville

My husband and I both grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. We fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC when we went camping on vacation here. We bought Sunflower Farm in 1993 and raised our children here. What an incredible place for kids to grow up, playing in the stream, swimming in the pool and adventuring on the 3.5 acres. We rented our farm for 3 different years, twice traveling with our jobs and children around the USA and living in 9 states and then going overseas for one and a half years and living in England and Scotland. We have seen beautiful places all over the USA and the world, but we always return to Sunflower Farm. It is a little slice of heaven.
When our two children went off to college, we had renovated a small cottage on the property (and are still working on it!) We decided last year to open the farmhouse as a vacation rental and move into the cottage. The families that stayed at Sunflower Farm loved their stay and many told us it was their favorite place they ever stayed on vacation.

    • The FAB 5 loved our visit at Sunflower Farm! The house and gardens are beautiful. We enjoyed wading in the stream and cooking s'mores and roasting marshmellows at the fire pit. We loved shopping in downtown Asheville and at the shops in Biltmore Village. Weaverville is also an awesome place to visit. While in Asheville we enjoyed the "circle of the drums". Thank you for your gracious hospitality during our short visit. Oh, and our favorite part of our visit was our day relaxing by the pool with good books, magazines and music! What great memories we have made during our 2009 girls weekend! We will miss this place... Lou Ann, Lynn, Sheri, Brenda and Abigale

    • What a beautiful place! Even though we had our share of rain this week, we so enjoyed our visit! The kids loved the cats and Jack (6 yrs.) enjoyed making "smores" on the camp fire. We have stayed in many vacation rentals and none compare with the ammenities offered here at Sunflower Farm. You truly have thought of everything a guest might need! We had a lovely visit to Chimney Rock and Cherokee. Toured the Biltmore and did our share of shopping in Asheville! We highly recommend The Stoney Knob Cafe and Blue Mt. Pizza in Weaverville. Also ate at Salsas and Sadies in Asheville-all great places to eat. We did manage some R&R in your lovely gardens and some quiet time in the hammocks! Thanks so much for your hospitality ! • We have had the best time! This is the perfect place for small kids. The tire swing and the creek were the kids favorites. We loved grilling by the pool, which we did twice a day all week. The potatoes and tomatoes from your garden were delicious! We had everything we needed. We loved the waterfall hike near the farm. Our 4 year old was able to do it. We enjoyed WNC Nature Center also. The bakery and the pottery store in Weaverville were great. The Fun Depot in Asheville was perfect for the kids. It has minature golf, bowling, rock climbing, bumper cars, playgrounds and much more. I loved listening to the stream and laying in the hammock. We made smores and caught fireflies. So pretty and relaxing. Thank you so much!
