Water lovers! Both Peter Cole at Makaha and Van Dyke were two of the leading big-wave surfers of the '50s and into the '60s, members of an elite group of Hawaiians and haole who challenged the giant surf at Makaha, with swells that get as large as 30 feet during the winter months, this beach is a well-known surf spot. Beginning surfers and boogie boarders are discouraged from testing the surf when the waves are high; swimming is unheard-of. Swimmers and boogie boarders should visit during the summer and always be careful of riptides, undertow, and unexpected high surf. The Famous Photo of Makaha that Began an Exodus of Surfers to Hawai'i. (search web for photos) In 1953, an Associated Press photo of Woody Brown and two other men streaking across a giant wave at Makaha began an exodus to Hawai'i from California (and other states like Texas), and the modern history of surfing began in the late 1950s. Surf, snorkel, hike, golf, or fish just a ten minute walk to beach and ocean views from the unit. Water falls out bedroom windows in rainy season can be seen. This condo is furnished and ready to vacation. This is a True Hawaiian Paradise.
