Casa Colibri (home of the hummingbird) is a large, bright two bedroom home overlooking San Miguel de Allende. This new home is over 3,000 square feet. One of the main features of this wonderful home is that all rooms have large, spectacular boveda ceilings. In addition to the main entry, the ground floor has two double doors in the living room area that can open onto the large parking and garden area with fountain. This area is great for entertaining or relaxing. Fireplace, TV with cable, CD and DVD also make the living room a comfortable place to relax. There is a full kitchen with eat-in counter and bar area. The dining room has a wonderful granite table and there are Mexican dishes for entertaining. Enjoy our wonderful maid, Betty, who is efficient, bright and a fabulous cook.
The second floor has a large bedroom with two “Juliette” balconies and a terrace. As well this floor has a cozy den with TV, high speed internet and pull out sofa. The third floor has another large bedroom with a balcony that has breathtaking sunset views over the lake. There is also a lovely tiled terrace that is good for relaxing or entertaining with beautiful views of city and countryside, including the Parroquia. All the bedrooms have hand-carved wood furniture.
The house is located in the colonia [neighborhood] of Independencia which is a Mexican family area with Canadian and US artists. It is extremely easy to get into the main square of the town. The public bus stops just 3 doors away and costs 4 pesos [40 cents]. You can also get a cab for 20 pesos [$2]. Either way you can be in town in 10 minutes. The walk is about 20-25 minutes. The location gives you the chance to enjoy the many activities offered in the city throughout the day and evening - and spend you nights in the quiet colonia of Independencia.
Everything is close by. San Miguel de Allende is a charming colonial town, a national historic landmark with an international community of artists, writers, dancers, musicians. The center of town, or the Jardin [garden], has many wonderful sights and sounds. There is nightly entertainment, side walk cafes and artisan crafts.
From Casa Colibri to the beautiful Parroquia [Parish Church], shopping and great restaurants is about one mile. There are theaters, a library with the 2nd largest collection of English books in Mexico, art and language schools, artists and artisans. The Instituto de Allende and La Fabrica Aurora, as well as the Warren Hardy Spanish School are easily reached. You can make day trips to the cities Guanajuato, Dolores Hidlago and Queretaro, as well as the local natural hot springs. San Miguel is an art center and there are International music festivals throughout the year.
Truly, it is hard to describe the magic of this city. You need to come down and experience it for yourself, and you will feel at home doing that from this wonderful house. |
