About this Home:
This is a cozy fully equipped home within walking distance to rock climbing, and hiking trails. It is just minutes away from world class trout fishing. This home is located just 2 miles South of Almont, 7 miles North of Gunnison, 25 miles from Taylor Reservoir and Blue Mesa Reservoir, and 20 miles from Crested Butte.
This home has three fully furnished bedrooms, a child/infant room, office/play area and 1 and 3/4 bathrooms. It has a large open living area and kitchen with lots of sunlight and views of Signal Peak. There is a nice porch in the front of the house and a deck attached to the two upstairs bedrooms. This home has a large flat screen TV with cable, free long distance within the US, laundry room with a washer and dryer, and a large two car garage with attached dog kennel. There is plenty of parking to accommodate your whole group.
This home is fully furnished with fresh clean linens, all kitchen supplies including dishware, spices and other cooking essentials (baking supplies, bar area, serving dishes, etc.). The bathroom is stocked with towels, toilet paper, bar soap, and q-tips, etc.
There is a grill on the front porch for your grilling needs and if you don’t feel like cooking the Almont Resort and Three Rivers Resort is just two miles away. Both of these Resorts can meet your needs for dining, and recreational activities, including rafting, fly fishing, horseback riding, jeep rentals and more.
About the Area
Gunnison County is over 85% National Forest or Wilderness area. All year round there is a good chance for you to view a lot of wildlife around the property.
We have a saying in Gunnison - People come here to ski and stay for the summers. People who visit Gunnison in the summer always come back.
In the summertime, there so much to do outdoors that it is hard to stay inside. Gunnison has over 300 days of bluebird sunny days and there is plenty of recreational activities in the area for you to enjoy; including fishing, kayaking, rafting, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, jeeping, sunbathing and sightseeing.
Around the last week in September the fall colors are fabulous! The Aspens are shimmering red and gold and all of the other native plants and trees accent the Aspens with brilliant orange, purple and gold. This is a great time of year to be in the Gunnison Valley. It is much quieter and very peaceful; not to mention the great fishing and hiking.
Fishing – The Gunnison Valley and surrounding area is a Fishermens Mecca. This house is located just 2 miles from the confluence of the Gunnison and Taylor River, and there is great fishing all around.
In the Gunnison River (less than 1 mile away) you can cast your fly and catch Brown, Rainbow and Cutthroat Trout. You can also fish the nearby mountain streams (up Taylor Reservoir and towards Crested Butte) for Brooke trout. If fly fishing isn’t your game you can always drive out to the Blue Mesa Reservoir (25 miles) for some Lake Trout, Kokanee Salmon, and much more. The Blue Mesa is also a nice place for a picnic, sun bathing and if your adventurous and the weather has been warm you can take a dip. If you are looking for fishing with a spectacular view Taylor Reservoir is the fishing hole for you. It is a 25 minute drive, depending on how much you want to sightsee, up Taylor Canyon. Taylor Reservoir is surrounded by the beautiful Rock Mountains of the Continental Divide.
Again, if you want some tips on what is biting and where to cast your line you can consult the Anglers at Almont Anglers (located at the Almont Resort - the owner is one of our neighbors).
Mountain biking and Hiking is everywhere - the most notable area is Hartman Rocks Recreational Area (8,000 ft. above sea level) which includes several hundred miles of trails can be enjoyed from your bicycle, dirt bike, or hiking (easy to strenuous). There is also sport climbing and bouldering. This area is just West of Gunnison, about 10 miles from the house. There is also trails up Taylor Canyon (10-20 miles away) and there are tons of trails up towards Crested Butte. Let us know if you are interested in a guided trip I have a good friend who does biking, climbing and hiking trips all over the area.
Rafting and Kayaking - Many people come here to raft the rivers. We are just minutes away from Three Rivers Resort and the Almont Resort, both have guided rafting and kayaking trips. You can find any type of rafting trip you would like, full day, half day or just a few hours. There is also easy, mild, difficult and adventurous trips.
In the Gunnison Valley you have access to almost any outdoor activity you want. Let us know if we can help guide you in the right direction.
This is also a great place to sit and relax, by the river, reservoir, or on the porch. Gunnison and Crested Butte has tons of festivals - wildflower, fat tire, mountain biking, rafting, etc.
Rental Options
This home can comfortably sleep 6, we will be willing to accommodate up to 8 people (no more than 6 adults) for an additional $25 per person.
During 2009 -2010 This home is available from May 15 - Sept 5th and from Dec. 20 - Jan. 10.
Nightly rental cost is $175 - $200 - minimum of 3 nights
Weekly rental cost ranges from $1150 to $1400
Monthly rental cost is $3,500 - $4,500 (depending on #of people)
** There is a cleaning charge of $150 for all reservations, monthly rentals are $250. If you rent it by the week/month and would like the house cleaned more than once that can be arranged.
**Pets are welcome as long as they are completely house broken and a refundable deposit of $100 is given.
