We came to Northern Michigan as first-time vacationers here and can't wait to come back up here! The area is gorgeous and the people here are beyond compare in friendliness and helpfulness. As for the rental, the pictures don't do it justice--it's breathtaking and easy to settle into. The kitchen is beautiful with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops, the bedrooms and bathrooms are roomy, and the owners will bend over backward to be sure to accomodate. We had a sudden conflict come up and were not able to rent at the time we'd planned, but the owners were very willing to work with us on another date so we could still come up and enjoy this lovely home and area. This meant a lot to us, as we had really looked forward to the trip. The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware and utensils and you can get groceries at the local Walmart in Cheboygan, so just bring your clothing (there is a nice washer and dryer, too). It was too chilly to use the pontoon boat, but it looked fun and inviting. Rent with confidence--you won't be disappointed.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for allowing us to share our home & community! Even when the weather changes there is so much to enjoy here without leaving the house. Of course there is fishing & boating but the peace & quiet of just taking it easy is just what a lot of folks need & appreciate!

Our family along with another stayed the last week of July 2012. The house was as described with no surprises. It is an easy walk down a flight of concrete steps to a beautiful dock and the boat. There are chaise lounges for laying out next to the river where you can enjoy the peace and solitude for that "Up North" experience. Many smallmouth bass were caught right off the dock so you don't have to venture far for that perfect cast and catch. We saw maybe 3 boats go by all week so the low traffic level makes it an excellent place for young kids (and adults) to play in the water right off the dock. The kitchen was well appointed with everything a cook would desire to prepare a delicious meal or just warm up those pasties from the store in Mackinaw City. The furniture was all very clean and comfortable. I had rented elsewhere and there wasn't a single piece of furniture in the house worth sitting on so this was a pleasant surprise. The deck was so large that all 6 of us could be on it and sitting in different areas with plenty of places to sit, a swing, rockers, a table and chairs, and a sofa and all of high quality. The home is close enough to town for a quick trip if needed but far enough for the quiet and a lack of light pollution for star gazing late into the evening. You could also do what my son and I did and ride the short distance to the bike trail near Mullett Lake and ride all the way to Mackinaw City. The bike trail is a hidden gem and is not to be missed. Michigan is to be commended for their effort in creating and maintaining this trail. My only negative of on our entire experience (and no fault of the owners) is the distance to get to an actual lake. It would take close to an hour to get to Mullett Lake or Lake Huron excluding the wait at the locks. All in all a great experience and you would not be disappointed with your stay in this home. Thank you for sharing it with my family and friends.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: It has been a great summer to vacation here in Northern Michigan! Our mild temperatures have been a great get away from the blistering temps to our South. The Inland Waterways are a nice place to spend a leisurely day cruising the Black & Cheboygan Rivers. Our quiet neck of the Black River is known for some of the best fishing around!

My husband and I have just returned from an absolutely perfect vacation in this beautiful home. The location is gorgeous. We have never had a more relaxing vacation. Everything you need is in this home. We enjoyed the use of the pontoon and took many trips up river to Mullett Lake. Such a pretty ride. To our amazement, we saw a bald eagle twice on our trip up Black River. I was even able to get a picture on my cell phone. Thank you so much for allowing to stay in your beautiful home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: There is a saying something like "its not the destination but the journey that counts" but in this case it is both. The Black River & the Cheboygan River are spectacular & then you get to Mullet Lake and beyond. Until you have experienced it there is no way to explain it! It is almost magical how you can unwind & enjoy the surrounding natural elements.

This home has all the amenities... and a boat! Our trip was fantastic. Our days were spent enjoying the pontoon that was included, swimming in the river, and occasional site seeing in downtown Cheboygan and Mackinac island. In the evening, we relaxed in the hot tub overlooking the river and "vegged" to a movie on the large screen tv and surround sound. The owners were very always available when we had questions and very pleasant. There are several steps leading down to the river and, as the owners told us before hand, there isn't really a place for young kids to go into the water. That wasn't a concern for our family, but should be considered for families with younger children. Plan for peaceful times when you are at the cabin and fun-filled days boating on the black river!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We are so appreciative of your kind words! The trip up & down the river are amazing for both the young & the young at heart. Children love the outdoors & this is the outdoors at its best!

Our trip included my husband & I, 80 year old father in-law & 4 teenagers and we all agreed that our week was the best vacation ever! The home was wonderful, the pictures on website are really nice but really aren't able to fully show the beautiful home. Everything was clean- beautiful landscaping too. The inside was tastefully decorated, fully-equipped, beautiful views, peaceful...we love to cook & were thrilled with the kitchen lay out, supplies and the incredible grill. Everyone enjoyed the pontoon, fishing & hot tub. I was a little worried about the teens getting bored in the slower pace of Cheboygan. However, we mixed up our days with trips to Mackinaw Island, Indian River (rafting) and the UP which gave us an excellent mix of laid back & lazy with bike riding, zip lining & rafting. This mom and "vacation coordinator" got a big thank you from everyone for finding this home! thank you to the Snyders for providing an excellent vacation spot!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: The pleasure was ours! We love sharing everything that Northern Michigan has to offer. If you have never been here, you don't know what you are missing!

Beautiful house and setting. Two families stayed for a week and loved the house. There really was something for everybody. We fished, played games on the large kitchen table and just sat on the deck enjoying the serenity. The teenagers walked to the park, played tennis and, of course, loved the WiFi. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to lower their blood pressure and get away from the hustle and bustle, yet be within a half hour of the traditional "up north" vacation stops..Recommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: We appreciate the kind words that reinforce our feelings on the home & area. There is so much to do that is good, clean, wholesome fun for all ages. Thanks for staying with us!

We just returned from a week long stay at this home. It was beyond peaceful and relaxing there. The spot on the river is very calming and there is no noise around to bother you. The cabin is very spacios and exactly as described, clean and well stocked with lines, dishes, etc. There was more than enough room for our family. While there we also rented the pontoon which we really enjoyed. Our fishing wasn't great but the kids enjoyed trying for them. We took several relaxing rides down the river while we were there too. You are close enough to Mackinaw and it is actually a pretty drive to get there too. We made several trips over during our week long stay. Mary and her husband were ever so helpful with giving us tips on what to do in the area, my husband enjoyed having someone to chat with too. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: It is our pleasure to share our home! We have enjoyed meeting the nicest folks from all across the country. Our place on the Black River in Cheboygan is like a secret hideaway from the hustle & bustle of everyday life. There is plenty to do if you want or just sit back & enjoy all that nature has given us. We are happy to hear that your family really enjoyed their vacation!

If anyone is looking for a peacefull get a way this is the place. The owners are the most pleasant people and was so helpfull when we needed a question answered. The huse is just like you see in the picture, just beautiful inside & out. They have everything you need, just bring yourself & luggage the rest is there. We caught alot of fish right off the dock, went tubbing in river, the warm hot tub with all the view of nature, otters, eagles, & we saw deer come & get a drink. The beds were so comfortable you didn't want to get out of bed! The long covered porch with rockers was so nice to sit. The pictures tell all, so many things to say, but you have to stay here & will want to come back! We are making plans already. I really cried when we got home because we really loved this place, & wanted to go right back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you to all who stayed with us this year & wrote all the great reviews. By reading our them I am sure that you have figured out that we are not the typical vacation rental. We go the extra mile to be sure you have a very enjoyable time. It is almost like walking into the home of a family member where you feel welcome & completely relaxed. In 2011 we are including our pontoon boat in the weekly rate so everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy the waterways. There was new TV episode about Cheboygan at "Under the Radar-Michigan" on PBS. In July episode #1028 on the Inland Waterways aired on "Michigan Out of Doors". Both episodes can be viewed online for a glimpse of the area. Be sure & book early so you don't miss out on your favorite week!

This was our first trip to northern Michigan and we loved every bit of it. The small towns are beautiful with all of the flowers and are kept so clean. The people were so friendly. We will come back again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, people with disabilities.

This is our second vacation at this home,,, it has everything you could think of as listed. Very private area on the river no people around, we must have seen the whole week 4 boats and the fishing is the best around Bass , Perch, Blue gill . ( not small fish but very nice size right on the river) we even had a pike right under the boat dock at least 24 plus inches,, my son went fishing off the dock and was catching nice size bass. The family took a nice trip to Mullet Lake on the pontoon we rented with the home and enjoyed a 45min cruise to the lake where we went swimming in the nice sandy beach where you can drop anchor and enjoy. We have tried many homes and fished on various lakes and rivers but this home comes in first place for all activities and area attractions are so close for all ages. This is a must do!!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

About the owner: Centrally located to Mackinac Island, Mackinaw City, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Indian River & Gaylord. You will love the amenities & our location with a stunning view of the water plus the cleanliness of our home!
Why the Owner Chose Cheboygan:
It is on a private area of the Black River with only 1 neighbor close by. We think it is a 'million dollar' view unlike any other on the river.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Compare nightly prices to single hotel/motel rooms! It is very affordable especially when the cost is split between a couple of families. You can prepare meals in the gourmet kitchen or grill out on the over sized grilling equipment saving you even more.
