My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the days spent at the cottage as well, the surrounding area. The cottage is very comfortable, clean and just enough space for 2 adults to share and have a most relaxed getaway ! Taking a bike ride on the road going further into the island is a very relaxing experience and easy riding for the novice. There are several local restraunts to enjoy great seafood or purchase and cook for yourself in the cottage. We will be going back again and would recommend it to people who are responsible and appreciate having a nice place at an affordable price. Both John and Sue are great hosts !

I booked this "mini vaca" as a birthday gift to my fiancee - who knew I needed it as much as he did!?! We arrived (after some helpful instructions from John) safely - from the moment we got there, we felt the stress fall off our shoulders. The chocolate banana nut bread, the sweet note, and the kindness we received from our hosts (and let's not forget the blue eyed Luna!) were more than enough to make the trip worth it. The property is immaculate, and had everything we needed and then some. The owners make sure that you are well taken care of, but aren't too intrusive. We really enjoyed our time (even with the thunderstorms and the rain!), and hope that we can come back really soon!! You won't regret coming here - it's so peaceful, and there's just enough to do to keep you entertained! P.S. Watch the short films John recommends - you won't be disappointed!

My girlfriend and I stayed at this cabin the weekend after Thanksgiving to escape the craziness of family and Black Friday. We arrived at the cabin late at night and were greeted with fresh baked Chocolate Banana Bread, coffee, and a bag of organic greens grown there on the property. This cabin is only around 350-400sq ft but is perfectly laid out. We were incredibly comfortable and had an amazingly relaxing time during our stay in Darien. If you're looking to get away somewhere different and secluded this place is an absolute must. Take some time to experience Coastal Georgia and take in its incredible Geechee heritage..

We spent a week at Oaks of Eden; what a little gem this place is! The cottage was private, set in among moss-covered oak trees, where it was tranquil and relaxing. We had a wonderful time eating at the local restaurants and, playing golf at Sapelo Hammock Golf Course. But best of all were the hosts: John and Sue. They catered to our every need but, were not intrusive. The cottage is clean and bright and happy! Not to mention we immensely enjoyed the fresh bread, coffee, lemons and organic lettuce too. Our vacation week started out great and ended up even better - GRAND - thanks to John and Sue, who started out as our hosts but, ended up being our friends! Later (as John would say...never say good-bye), Michele and Don

If your looking to get away with your sweetheart or maybe just yourself, you need look no further then Oaks of Eden! My husband and I stay here for our anniversary recently and had the most wonderful time. The cottage was fresh, clean and well maintained. When we arrived Jiohn and Sue had plenty of coffee and their famous chocolate chip nut bread waiting just for us! Great for snuggle up with you honey and if you don't want to cook their are plenty of places to eat. John and Sue had bikes for our personal use and we enjoyed gliding along the marsh on well kept roads. If you are a true nature lover you need to experience Oaks of Eden. Bye the way, you need to stop by the " Purple Pickle" great place to grab a bite to eat. Quirky, fun interior and the best and most unique food I have had in a long time. The "Holy Moses" sandwich was to die for, but start out with the herbed pita chips and chicken buffalow dip I promise you won't leave this place hungry!! Thanks John and Sue for a great adventure and May the Lord Bless You Always...... We will be back again and again........

There isn't really anything much I can add to the other stellar (and accurate) reviews. My husband and I booked this cottage based on ALL positive reviews, and weren't sure what we were heading in to. What we needed was quiet solitude to recoup and relax and the Oaks of Eden did not disappoint in the least. As others noted, we were greeted by John and given a proud master tour. The cottage was perfect as was the bread and fresh vegetables. We went reclusive, but that was our choice! There is plenty to see and do nearby. We thought we'd eat out a lot, but then close to eat in most of the time and enjoy the beaches during the day. John is attentive without being intrusive. He offered excellent information on places to go and things to see. I can't say enough about our experience at the Oaks of Eden. It certainly is a photographer's dream. The cottage is impeccably clean and well supplied. Perfect. Can I give it more than 5 stars? Thanks John and Sue for the rejuvenation we so needed!

I had to attend a conference in nearby Brunswick. I brought my wife Marcy not Mary :) along so that we could have some time together after work. My only regret about this stay was that I did not have the luxury of spending the entire day enjoying the serenity and comfort of this wonderful cottage. We had all the comforts of home, and the scenery was beautiful. We really got the opportunity to experience the true life and culture of coastal Georgia. Our wonderful host John and Sue were instrumental in making this happen. P.S. The alligator tail and flounder at Skippers were great.

My husband and I have a vrbo rental ourselves but have never experienced being on the guest side of a stay. John and Sue set the bar for us. They took care of everything from the home-baked banana bread to the coffee and fresh Half & Half on hand for our first morning's breakfast. The best part of our week was the time spent getting to know our hosts and learning about the area from a local point of view. The house was extremely clean and well laid out with a very nice bathroom. Make sure to set time aside for a kayak paddle. Great, Great Fun. The location was perfect for exploring the low country. We spent one day in The Okeefenokee, another on Jekyll Island and then on up to Savannah. The house is very close to the Sapelo Island ferry. We are saving that day trip for next time!

I really can't add much more to what others have said except that if you want to get away from "it all" this is the place to do it. Great location, precious cottage with every amenity you can think of and then some, super host (Sue was out of town) and gorgeous surroundings. Probably the cleanest most well furnished rental we have ever stayed in with all the touches everyone else mentioned - coffee, 1/2 and 1/2 and yummy banana/chocolate bread. It is abundantly clear that this is a labor of love.

My husband and I use VRBO to find different places to go where we can unwind, cook, relax, and enjoy new places. We walked in, the AC was on, there was a home made loaf of homemade choc. banana bread, fresh dark roast coffee, fresh half & half, you name it to come in and unwind day one everything was there. Our hots are lovely people we chatted with about organic gardening and were reminded to come out an look over the marsh at full moon high tide. Wonderful way to unwind. This is day one after a grueling semester of grad school. I could just stay here forever. Savannah is an hour away, St. Augustine just a bit over an hour, Jekell Island moments, great food, local history, beautiful places to go and see or just read on the back porch. A couples cottage in a piece of haven......We'll be back! If you have to connect to life there is open Wi-Fi, cable, and cell service, but I would choose to use all that sparsely and just enjoy the peace of this custom cottage in the old live oaks.

What a pleasant stay. The owner is very helpful and welcoming and can give you lots of information on nearby activities. We were given wonderful fresh vegetables and fruit and a "welcome gift" of home made banana bread. The cabin is very well constructed and tastefully furnished. We did not take advantage of the kayaks or bicycles that are available but doing so would be add to your overall pleasant experience. The area is very scenic as you would expect from the photos. Jekyll Island is nearby if you are seeking a nice outing for your dog.

We spent 4 wonderful days at Oaks of Eden. Explored the historic sites and ate seafood. The kitchen is fully stocked for breakfasts and boiling shrimp for dinner. Although we didn't grill out, there is a grill. Nothing has been forgotten in terms of tools for cooking if you'd like intimate dinners. Quiet, peaceful, dark at night for the most relaxing night of sleep that you could have. John and Sue went out of their way to pamper us. Wonderful, warm hosts. You won't be disappointed in this little retreat on the Georgia Coast.

What a great cottage and what a great location - splendid isolation with only nature for company. After a few weeks touring Savannah and Charleston this was the perfect place to chill out and relax before the long flight back to England. Spent 5 nights at the cottage and loved every minute of it. The hummingbirds, lizards, woodpeckers, cardinals, gators, crabs, herons etc where wonderful and John and Sue gave us some great tips on the best places to spot wildlife. Really enjoyed the bikes and chatting to the locals on my journeys. Skippers Fish Camp is a really friendly restaurant at the rivers edge about 10 miles away and a trip further south to Jekyl Island was fascinating - the food and service at the Jekyl Island Club was great so give yourself a treat. Sue and John were perfect and gracious hosts who helped to make a stay at their cottage the perfect end to our holiday. Thankyou

We spent the month of March 2011 in a magical place called "Oaks of Eden". We already miss the serenity of the area and especially our hosts Sue and John. What a wonderful couple they are. John and his greenhouse produce the best salad ingredients we have ever tasted and his cooking is world-class. We did a lot of sightseeing in the area - the Golden Isles, Savannah, Okefenokee Swamp, the numerous forts which dot the Georgia Coast -. The area surrounding the 'Oaks of Eden' property is also a walker's paradise, just ask Sue and she will point you or even take you in the right direction. We highly recommend Sue and John's cottage and the Coastal Georgia area to anyone who likes to sightsee or spend quiet days sitting on the deck overlooking the marsh and who enjoys fabulous sunrises. Sue and John: We hope to visit you again soon.

My wife and I spent a great week at the cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. When we travel, we typically seek to stay in a natural setting, and since I'm a serious birder, if it is particularly birdy that's a big plus. Oaks of Eden Cottage excheeded our expectations on all accounts. It is uniquely situated in an excellent mix of healthy natural habitats that are full of birds and provides all a person needs to be comfortable. And it is within easy diriving distance to other natural areas including Okefenokee and Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuges as well as Civil and Revolutionary War historical sites. Suffice it to say we never lacked for new and interesting things to do and would like to have stayed longer. In addition, John and Sue were wonderful hosts! They were very generous with their time and provided excellent advice that greatly helped us plan our activities. The extroardinary birding opportunities the area offers may draw us back in the future, and if so, we'll certainly seek to stay at Oaks of Eden.

"Your cottage is wonderful. Just too bad we had to leave on Wednesday instead of staying for our full visit through Saturday. We had a pressing matter that required us to head home. Thanks for the hospitality, from the homemade banana bread to the wonderful activity suggestions. Thank you!"

"Loved the place, very cozy. Had everything we could want. John and Sue really thought of everything. Wish we had more time here, but the time we had was wonderful. Had shrimp from Ocean's Bounty on the BBQ (on the sticks provided). Fantastic! Can not wait to return. P.S. The bread was great!

"Thank you John & Sue for the perfect getaway that was much needed. The dusk sounds were intoxicating. The frozen clock made time insignificant and the personalized art made this place feel like it had unique spirit. I am grateful that you grow your food, well your water, bake your bread and literally and figuratively build your own home. It is inspiring and energizing, "sweat equity". Thank you for your truth. The bikes were an added bonus and somehow you even managed to get the weather perfect. Much love and thanks."

"The Spanish moss and tropical plants are amazing. The cottage is beautiful and the open door on arrival with a note and banana bread is very welcoming. My dog loves it too, no additional pet or cleaning fees is unheard of which attracted us to Eden. Had the best chicken wings ever in Darien. (Smokey Joe's BBQ) P.S. I love the drawer with the little cut out by stove!! Originally from Wales, U.K., this was like a paradise to me. Thank you."

"John & Sue - Your southern hospitality exceeded expectations! Oaks of Eden is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting. We had a wonderful stay and used the cottage as our base while we toured the low country in Savannah, Hilton Head, Charleston then south to Jekyll Island and St. Simons with great views of the Atlantic. Be sure to take a bike ride and keep the hummingbird feeder full. We enjoyed sitting on the porch relaxing and watching the many different kinds of birds. Thanks for the delicious home baked bread and the fresh salad from the greenhouse. Our stay here was exactly what we needed to unwind from the big city life. Thank you! P.S. The fresh Italian green beans were awesome!"

"Had a great time! Enjoyed all of the amenities the cottage had to offer. It was a great base from which to explore Savannah, Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island. Highlight was the Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge. Saw egrets and wood stork nesting along with painted bunting, blue grosbeak and many more. Feel rested and relaxed. Thanks John and Sue-great place you have!"

"Great place to relax. The cottage is fabulous - everything exceeded our expectations. John and Sue are perfect hosts. We found "Mudcat Charlies" to have the best grouper sandwiches and had a lovely Sunday brunch at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. We hope to return for more R & R."
