We stayed at the River House in April. We were very pleased with our experience. It was wonderful to sit on the porch and listen to the river rushing by. Yosemite National Park was what went on vacation for but we chose to spent several days on the property because it was so relaxing. Peter, Deb, and Tony were all very helpful during our stay. Our favorite dining experiences were The Iron Door Saloon in Groveland and Kate's Teahouse in Columbia. We enjoyed daily visits from the beautiful peacock that lives on the property.

Perfect stay for a family
Perfect stay for a family
We can't say enough positive things about our stay at the River House. Our two young children had a great time exploring the river, playing in the play area, using the hot tub, looking for Allen the peacock, roasting mash mellows, and searching for newts. The house was perfect for our family of four. Tony was beyond helpful with anything we needed. Deb and Peter were helpful with suggestions of things to do in the area. Renting bikes in yosemite and visiting Columbia were highlights. We look forward to coming back in the summer to enjoy the warm river and pool. Thanks again for a great stay!

We loved our stay! Tuolomne Riverfront Hosue is peaceful and quiet. It was a great place to retire to after an adventurous day at Yosemite National Park. We won't forget the lovely grounds, pool, hot tub, and Alan the peacock! Thanks for having us and we will sure be back again. -Berkeley visitors

Wonderful Relaxation After A Day At Yosemite
Wonderful Relaxation After A Day At Yosemite
We recently were pleased to stay at "The Cottage" at the Spinning Wheel compound. For the three nights we were there, we were able to relax, cook our own meals on the BBQ and enjoy the pool and spa. After a long day of exploring Yosemite and all its beauty (and crowds), it was very nice to drive back to our "home" at the Spinning Wheel, enjoy a glass of wine and get recharged for the next day. Peter and Deb welcomed us as family and offered a few tips on exploring the area and Yosemite. "The Cottage" is a small one room facility with a detached bathroom building, but it has everything that two people need for a comfortable, relaxing stay. The grounds are well landscaped and adorned with many wood carvings, mostly done by Peter's son Matt. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely try to stay there again when we return to the area.

A Hidden Paradise Valley...
A Hidden Paradise Valley...
Our desire was to stay near Yosemite so we were able to take in the majesty of the Valley as soon as possible. What we did not realize was the 17 acres of a "hidden Paradise valley" that was nestled just a few feet beyond the "Spinning Wheel" gate. This place is truly a labor of love! From the wild flowers, bunnies, three lovable dogs, plus one that chases squierrels all day, a wonderful, friendly staff, the river that runs through the property, a private swimming hole to swim or float in all day long, pool, jacuzzi, meadow-like lawn area, to the comfortable, warm and inviting atmosphere of the River House...it's hard to pinpoint our favorite thing...we loved everything! But the most impressive items were how the owners were so friendly and "down to earth." Peter gave us a tour of the other cottages, the property and history of their hidden paradise. It's truly a work of art--all of it! The sculptures, paintings, hand-picked stones on the cottages...simply amazing. This sanctuary could be as private as one would want it to be or as social as one would want it to be...the choice is yours! The River House has everything one would need! It's perfect for a couple to a family. And the "incidentals" that we noticed: fresh bag of coffee beans from a local roasting house, cookies and cream ice cream, and two-ply toilet paper--yes! we notice these things! There's so much more! Peter and Deb definitely welcome their guests as family. It's only 10 minutes or so to the gates of Yosemite, then another 20 to the Valley floor. We spent the entire day their cycling, hiking and exploring this amazing valley. It's the original "paradise" that we set out for...and after a full day of Yosemite, it was a huge blessing to drive back to our "home away from home" for a relaxing night that included a bbq dinner that was eaten on the back deck as we listened to the sounds of the river and overlooked the meadow-like lawns. We definitely will be back...and you should not wait any longer, but experience this hidden paradise valley for yourself!

Owner response: Thanks Cheryl. This is just the second year we’ve opened our family property to guests and one of the comments we get most frequently is, “ We decided to spend the last day of our vacation just hanging out here at Spinning Wheel because we just love the beauty and peacefulness of the place”. Conversely, often folks forgo their first day in Yosemite just to relax and unwind here. The combination of the swimming pool, spa, and the river seems to be appreciated by all, and we’re surprised at how many people bring along their fishing poles and catch trout in the river. We really appreciate you noticing the things we do and are grateful for your comments. Warm Regards, Deb, Jasper and Peter Barsotti

Year Purchased: 1982
About the owner: The Barsotti family begin vacationing at Spinning Wheel well before 1982. In 1982 when presented with the opportunity to purchase Spinning Wheel, there was no hesitation. Because of their love for the area they crafted a place where others could come and vacation as well.
Why the Owner Chose Yosemite National Park:
Unlike many other vacation properties in the area Spinning Wheel offers a very private experience. Each cabin (there are 5 in total) is located far enough away from the other where you can feel both connected (if you are renting multiple properties) or private (if you are using one house). Many people come and enjoy staying on the property (hiking, riding bikes, lounging by the river) that they are happy not to go elsewhere. Yet Spinning Wheel is a short drive to the North West entrance to Yosemite making it the perfect getaway just outside of the park.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The river that runs through the property holds a special place in our hearts. In the summer it provides a wonderful place to lounge and beat the summer heat. The cabins have been individually crafted up to the last detail. Stones were hand selected and placed on many of the cabins and each one has a story. Much of the art within the cabins and on the property is made by one of the Barsotti's. Which helps to make Spinning Wheel feel like a comfortable home away from home get away.
