Wonderful Relaxation After A Day At Yosemite
Guest: Tony

We recently were pleased to stay at "The Cottage" at the Spinning Wheel compound. For the three nights we were there, we were able to relax, cook our own meals on the BBQ and enjoy the pool and spa. After a long day of exploring Yosemite and all its beauty (and crowds), it was very nice to drive back to our "home" at the Spinning Wheel, enjoy a glass of wine and get recharged for the next day. Peter and Deb welcomed us as family and offered a few tips on exploring the area and Yosemite. "The Cottage" is a small one room facility with a detached bathroom building, but it has everything that two people need for a comfortable, relaxing stay. The grounds are well landscaped and adorned with many wood carvings, mostly done by Peter's son Matt. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely try to stay there again when we return to the area.

A Hidden Paradise Valley...
Guest: Bermo
(Castro Valley, CA)
Date of Stay: 08/06/10
Review Submitted: 08/16/10
Our desire was to stay near Yosemite so we were able to take in the majesty of the Valley as soon as possible. What we did not realize was the 17 acres of a "hidden Paradise valley" that was nestled just a few feet beyond the "Spinning Wheel" gate. This place is truly a labor of love! From the wild flowers, bunnies, three lovable dogs, plus one that chases squierrels all day, a wonderful, friendly staff, the river that runs through the property, a private swimming hole to swim or float in all day long, pool, jacuzzi, meadow-like lawn area, to the comfortable, warm and inviting atmosphere of the River House...it's hard to pinpoint our favorite thing...we loved everything! But the most impressive items were how the owners were so friendly and "down to earth." Peter gave us a tour of the other cottages, the property and history of their hidden paradise. It's truly a work of art--all of it! The sculptures, paintings, hand-picked stones on the cottages...simply amazing. This sanctuary could be as private as one would want it to be or as social as one would want it to be...the choice is yours! The River House has everything one would need! It's perfect for a couple to a family. And the "incidentals" that we noticed: fresh bag of coffee beans from a local roasting house, cookies and cream ice cream, and two-ply toilet paper--yes! we notice these things! There's so much more! Peter and Deb definitely welcome their guests as family. It's only 10 minutes or so to the gates of Yosemite, then another 20 to the Valley floor. We spent the entire day their cycling, hiking and exploring this amazing valley. It's the original "paradise" that we set out for...and after a full day of Yosemite, it was a huge blessing to drive back to our "home away from home" for a relaxing night that included a bbq dinner that was eaten on the back deck as we listened to the sounds of the river and overlooked the meadow-like lawns. We definitely will be back...and you should not wait any longer, but experience this hidden paradise valley for yourself!
Owner response:Thanks Cheryl. This is just the second year we’ve opened our family property to guests and one of the comments we get most frequently is, “ We decided to spend the last day of our vacation just hanging out here at Spinning Wheel because we just love the beauty and peacefulness of the place”. Conversely, often folks forgo their first day in Yosemite just to relax and unwind here. The combination of the swimming pool, spa, and the river seems to be appreciated by all, and we’re surprised at how many people bring along their fishing poles and catch trout in the river. We really appreciate you noticing the things we do and are grateful for your comments. Warm Regards, Deb, Jasper and Peter Barsotti
