Big Bend Getaway - Views, Comfort and Style - 10 Min to Pool !
- Minimum stay:2-3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This custom adobe home is the perfect 'getaway' when visiting the Big Bend. Located on 20 acres and at the end of a long drive, the Big Bend Getaway provides seclusion and privacy. Furnished in a western style with modern flair, the house is built for comfort and relaxation indoors and out. Thick adobe walls and efficient heat and air keep it cozy in any type of weather. The large front porch and screened dining porch provide shade from the heat and protection from flying insects. The carport will protect your car from desert sun and storms. The main bedroom has a queen bed and its own AC and heater for a perfect night's sleep. The kitchen is equipped with everything you would typically need to prepare and serve most meals. Enjoy your meals in the rock floored dining room or on the dining porch. Relax in the comfortable living room, the semi-private den, one of the porches, around the fire circle, or on the double hammock. If you need a second bed, we'll fold out the queen size futon in the den. If you need a third bed for young children, we'll leave out the inflatable mattress and extra bedding.
We can comfortably accommodate four adults on a queen bed and queen futon. Dogs are also welcome. While we typically limit occupancy to four people, we can accommodate a slightly larger group if some are small children. Just let us know so we can make sure you will all be comfortable. If you have a larger group, consider renting the Getaway and the nearby Terlingua Ranch Retreat. The owners are good friends and we often arrange dual rentals. Just call or email us for details.
We recommend bringing a good book, or select one from our bookshelves, many about the Big Bend region. Just kick back and enjoy the solitude inside or out. Of course, there are lots of other activities to keep your stay busy and exciting. Watch the abundant birds, wildlife, and desert plant life on our twenty acres or as you walk, bike, or drive along the hundreds of miles of dirt and rock roads of the 200,000 acre Terlingua Ranch. Sign in at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge and hike along the remote and breathtaking trails through the Christmas Mountains. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool and inviting Terlingua Ranch pool (just six miles down the road). Visit Big Bend National Park (just 30 minutes to the west gate) or Big Bend Ranch State Park (just 45 minutes to the Barton Warnock Visitor Center). Enjoy meals, drinks, live music and more at the various restaurants and bars in the area. Sit out at night to watch the stars, tell tall tales, or enjoy a small fire. Drive along some of the most scenic roads in Texas. Raft or canoe down the Rio Grande. Enjoy a guided horseback ride or jeep tour through the rugged west Texas landscape.
With so many options, you can return home as relaxed or exhausted as you choose. Either way, you'll “getaway” from everyday life and bring back countless memories.

A friend and I recently stayed at the Getaway and had a great trip. Not only is the surrounding countryside amazing with lots of great things to do, but the house itself was a highlight of our stay. As other reviewers have already stated, the house is exactly as described on the website, so you can choose this property with confidence. The house was very clean and had extras you might not expect. The owners were very responsive to our inquiries as well. The only suggestion I might make for future guests to this property is to arrive during daylight hours if possible, as it is VERY DARK at night (which is great!) and could be difficult to find. It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend both the Big Bend area and this house!Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

This is a great place to stay if you want to get away from it all. We stayed here on a recent motorcycle trip and found this to be a perfect spot. The driveway is a bit tricky the first time thru on a bike, but after you do it once it is easy. Everything you need for a nice stay is there, including binoculars for watching the hills. Unbelievable sunsets, sun rises and moon rises. We can't wait to go back. Perfect for 2 or 4 people.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, adventure seekers.

My wife and I rented this property for our honeymoon. And we are glad we did. It is remote enough to be nice and quiet and also served as a great starting point for several fun day trips (state park, national park, marfa, fort davis, terlingua, etc). We had a few questions before and after our stay and the owner was quick to respond. I highly recommend this property and we plan to return in the future.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Comfortable, clean, and efficient rental home. Big Bend Getaway is great for the adventure seekers and/or people who are looking for peace and quiet. The pictures and descriptions of the home is accurate with no surprises. I suggest driving at least a small SUV to get to its location since the road can be bumpy and the house is located on top of a hill. The only "con" -- it can be tricky finding the turn off for the BBG during the night since there is little to no lights to find the bill board sign. But, as we found out later in the day, the signs for the Ranch are there whether you are coming from Alpine or Big Bend National State Park. Highly recommended! Will be coming back for more trips.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, pet owners, sightseeing, adventure seekers.

Wife and I really enjoyed our week at the Getaway. Previous reviewers were so right about how clean and updated the house was. We loved the remoteness and the quiet. The weather kept us in the house more than we expected but turned into wonderful reading time for both of us. We brought plenty to read but there were many books and magazines there, the biggest portion written about the area. There were cloudy, windy days with mist and one night and morning of heavy rain. Rain is always welcome in the desert. Also it was much cooler than we expected and we were not prepared for that on an extended basis. At times you could hear the wind whistling around the corners of the house but otherwise just solitude and the house was so well insulated it stayed warm and comfortable the whole stay. Loved the ceiling fans. Just about everything you need is stocked and really enjoyed and used the kitchen. There was a nice (looks new) store south of Study Butte on the right (west side of hwy) that covered anything we were short on. We got to meet Daryl when we drove up as he had just finished cleaning and we felt welcome from the beginning. Have to say, we will make an effort to return.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Here's the deal. Don't look anywhere else if you want the best Big Bend area experience of your life. In fact, you should just plan your visit around the availability of this rental. I cannot gush enough about the property ( immaculate, charming), the views( out of this world), the amenities ( I would add/subtract nothing), the location (perfect directions, and the best of the southwest) and the owners ( beyond helpful Because we canoed one day and hiked the next, we cooked all our meals at the GetAway in an extremely well equipped kitchen, so we don't have any reviews of restaurants. We were actually anxious to get back to the Getaway after our days out in the park, so that we could see the spectacular sunsets. And, may I say once again, relax under that heavenly canopy!! We even rose at 0300 to stargaze. Mars, Saturn and Venus! And the Milky Way! The hammock was perfect for that. For those of you with i-Pads, make sure you download the Sky Watcher app. You will love it. The photos do not do this home justice, It is beyond cute. The screened in porch is a real treat . Wonderful books on the area will add to your enjoyment and knowledge. The WiFi worked perfectly and we no trouble with a phone signal. There is not TV. Nor should there be. Just sit on the porch! This is great place for children who do not need TV or need to be entertained. You just need to know your children. Glorious.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

My family and I just returned from another delightful stay at the Big Bend Getaway. This is the third time we've stayed here and we always come away feeling relaxed, restored, and ready to face city life again. We like getting away from the city but we need our gadgets, and the cell coverage and wifi worked flawlessly. And as always, the home was clean and in perfect order when we arrived. There have been a few updates since we last visited earlier this year; new chairs in the dining room and some new dishes to to make preparing meals and storing leftovers even easier. But the best addition, in my humble opinion, has to be the new hammock. It's the perfect place for an afternoon siesta after a long hike. But my favorite time to lie in it is after the sun goes down, when you can watch a million stars twinkle into view. Magical. Thank you so much for providing such a wonderful desert oasis.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

My boyfriend & I just got back from our vacation at this cabin and I want to turn around and go right back. It was wonderful. The cabin is very well kept and nicely decorated. Drinking coffee on the porch in the peace and quiet was very relaxing. The grill has such an amazing view! The pool at the lodge was very nice and clean! All the amenities worked fine and the cabin was well stocked. Everyone we have met was really nice too! There are nice bike/hiking trails around the cabin too. Having no TV was refreshing. There are a few board games there to keep you entertained, scrabble nights were alot of fun! There is a restaurant down the road called Judys Bad Rabbit. We were hoping to have a chance to eat there but, unfortunately, we never had the chance to. Big Bend National Park is not far from the cabin. My favorite trail was the lost mine trail and grapevine. I would recommend this cabin to anyone and everyone. When we come back to Big Bend I hope to come back to this cabin!Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Thank you once again for making the arrangements for our rental of the Big Bend Getaway. Everything worked fine; the house was comfortable, quiet, and nicely positioned with respect to the two parks. The countryside was beautiful, and we even got a bit of rain from tropical storm Don.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

We rented the house for 4 days last month and had the BEST vacation! The house was exactly what we were looking for and perfect for our family. We spent most of our days exploring Big Bend and the surrounding areas and loved the location and solitude of the house. My kids loved to hike right outside the house as well. We enjoyed many star gazing nights and late evening sunsets as a family. The house is very clean and well maintained. We loved opening all the windows and enjoying the breeze that came through. The porch is perfect for evening views and enjoying dinner as a family. We spent most evenings at the lodge pool for a late day cool off swim and it is a nice benefit to be able to enjoy the pool as a guest. We will be back to Big Bend for many more family vacations and we are looking forward to staying in the house again!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers.

This little place is a Terlingua Ranch classic. Good food, great people and fair prices under a covered porch. They are typically open for breakfast and lunch. Say hi to the owners, Jerry and Eva. Scenic Drive or Bike Ride View on map
Gate Nine Road is a very scenic drive that accesses the Christmas Mountains Ranch, a public land holding that is owned by the State of Texas University System. High clearance is recommended/required for this drive. The further back you get, the worse the road becomes. 4WD is required for some portions. If you have 4WD, off road experience, and a sense of adventure, and time to spare, this road eventually winds around to Lake Ament Road which intersects with Terlingua Ranch Road about three miles past the Getaway. This road is also great for mountain biking.
