Map & Owner's Profile
Stay at the Historic Hillside Ranch Family Reunion Compound
Year Purchased: 1994
Why the Owner Chose South Lake
In 1994 after looking all over California for about 10 years in hopes of finding an old farm house I could fix up, I stumbled across this property and fell in love. The spot looked pretty good to me, I thought it had great potential. What the hell, the price was right, so I bought it and started planting trees. It didn't looked to good in those days but I thought with a little hard work, I’d have this place whipped into shape in 5 years, tops. The year was 1994, I was 44 years old, in good health, and ready to go.
Now in 2009, I’m 59 years old and I’ve been bit, stung and sun burned more times then I can remember. Remarkably my health is still pretty good, but shockingly I’m still not done. But, I’m not giving up either. Anyway, it’s been a labor of love, I hope you have as much fun playing here, as I have had working here.
The Unique Benefits at this House
It is very quite and the view ain't bad either.
Owner's Map of South Lake
I am a retired sound effects editor from the film industry. I am married with two beautiful children. I have been a Mr. Mom, a carpenter, a drywall hanger, a handyman, a potter, a hippie, a college drop out, a landscape gardner, a traveler, a surfer, a tennis player, made a couple of short films and wrote 4 bad screenplays. That's not all but I don't want to brag.

5/26/08 It was a pleasure to stay at The Ranch. The place is way better than what it seems in the pictures. Marie and her husband were very nice. We are definitely coming back! 6/16/08 A Swedish house in the middle of California, bright colors and a beautiful view. So very peaceful to be here, absolutely amazing to just sit on the porch... Thank you very much for this second time at your Ranch, I love this place... and so does Chris! (Anna and Chris) 6/20/08 This place is so beautiful. We’ve come out here so, so many times and have never noticed these gorgeous houses on this land. What a great little “get away”. Thank you for letting us share this wonderful home with you. You have made it feel like a home away from home. (Rick) 7/3/08 Your “Pioneering” spirit has definitely resulted in creating a heavenly retreat! Our short stay here put us immediately into a relaxed state and an appreciation of the beauty and majesty of the area. Wishing you all the best with Hillside Ranch! P.S. I enjoyed meeting Bruce and have the “fifty cent” tour of the other houses. (Kathryn) 7/19/08 This was the best place for a big party. Thank you. (Donette) 8/9-13, 2008 Lovely, simply lovely! All the amenities of home. You have done such a fabulous job restoring this beautiful place. What a treat it has been to experience this Ranch. We’ll be back! If you are going river rafting, Kern River Tours is highly recommended... try the 2-day lower! Amazing... guides are the best! And the food... yummy! We were well taken care of.
