Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1988
I am a long-retired nurse who came to Sitka to work with the tuberculosis epidemic.
I like to cook and do a lot of it, mostly volunteer. I like to garden but am getting too old so have young, strong, smart helpers. This year we converted the garden almost entirely to produce.
I am devoted to our fine Episcopal parish and do a good amount of volunteer work.
Why the Owner Chose Sitka
My husband built Sprucecot with spruce he logged nearby. He was in his eighties then but couldn't give up building so built another smaller log house in the Sprucecot compound. When we moved into the new house, we realized we had an extra house! What to do? Give Sprucecot to the Episcopal Church is what he did, giving me a life estate. Managing a vacation rental gives me something to do and keeps me out of mischief.
I would not consider living anywhere but Sitka. It is a truly special town and I love it.
The Unique Benefits of this Log Cabin
Sprucecot is especially comfortable and welcoming for multi-generation families.
It works well for large dinner parties or other group functions.
It is almost Universal Design, almost barrier free. Sitka is in many ways hassle-free for wheelchairs.
My helpers and I are very picky about how our guests are treated. We will go the extra mile to make someones stay comfortable. I am reluctant to brag but I admit that no one has ever rented Sprucecot without leaving me a hostess gift.
