Ashe Splashe is a beautiful, all-Dade County-pine, two-storey house on Ashe Street, one of the quietest, most residential streets in Key West's historic Old Town, near Truman Avenue. Within a three minute walk you will find a specialty grocery, wine/liquor shop, renowned deli/caterer, Sandy's famous Cuban sandwich and coffee cafe and many other amenities. Key West life at its finest!
NEXT AVAILABILITY IS MAY, 2013. PLEASE SEE CALENDAR. RATES VARY BY SEASON. WINTER $8500; SPRING & FALL $5800; SUMMER $4500.
Sorry, but the MINIMUM RENTAL IS ONE MONTH. This minimum is mandated by law and we abide by it without exception.
Ashe Splashe was featured in the November/December 2008 issue of COTTAGE LIVING magazine under the title, 'We Evoked the Best of Old Key West' and in the January 2013 issue of the British magazine HOMES & ANTIQUES under the title, 'Winter Sun.'
The house was meticulously restored in 2006 and, in 2007, awarded a coveted ceramic star, the highest preservation award, by the Historic Florida Keys Foundation. The spacious rooms are built entirely of wood—even the ceilings—in the tradition of original Key West architecture. Antique flooring and details are paired with three new baths and a state-of-the-art kitchen with stainless appliances, offering you charm AND comfort.
The first floor of the house consists of a breezy front porch, the kitchen and a large living room that opens onto a bricked pool area. On this floor, there is a bath and bedroom that converts to a den by storing the queen size murphy bed behind louvered doors. The second floor has two large bedrooms with baths en suite. Each bedroom has a porch, shaded by palms, overlooking Ashe Street or the pool. The lighted, heated pool is surrounded by garden lights, inviting you to take an evening swim.
Tropical colors and accessories add to the authentic Key West experience.

All our expectations were exceeded. The house is well maintained, clean, uncluttered and comfortable. There is a good collection of books provided including many on Key West. The neighborhood is quiet and we met several nice residents in the immediate vicinity. We didn't know this little enclave of Old Town before we arrived. It is a hidden gem. The Studios of Key West holds many evening programs and it a short walk from the house. The cemetery, just on the next street, is a fun place to bike or stroll through. There is a great dance exercise studio called The Coffee Mill on Havana Lane half a block away. Rent Key West couldn't have been more accommodating in processing our reservation. All in all our month was wonderful.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We loved our month in Key West. It is a wonderful city for celebrations and for really kicking back and relaxing. The house was perfect for us. It has a Caribbean feel because the breezes blow through it front to back and there are porches off both the upstairs bedrooms. It is decorated with great colors and is very roomy. The pictures accurately reflect the house and it was thoroughly cleaned before we arrived.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We've rented Ashe Splash twice and will again. It's very comfortable, with lots of Old Key West features but with a new kitchen and baths. The house was spotless, pool serviced once a week. Occasionally in between we would pick leaves off the water. The bedrooms upstairs each have their own bath and porch so you and your guests have privacy and quiet. The downstairs bedroom is smaller than the two upstairs but it is still larger than most bedrooms in Key West rentals. The house is just as described. The owners have thought of everything you might want: beach towels, books, hair dryers, etc. The location is good for Higgs Beach and the White St. Faustos grocery; bike rentals are nearby. You don't need a car. Our favorite restaurant, Seven Fish, is a 7 minute walk away. This is a quiet end of Old Town. If you want to have bars and clubs outside the front door this is not the house for you. If you like to relax in a peaceful setting you will not find a better spot. Great house.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My family and I travel to Key West every other year for a month of relaxation and conky tonkin', and we have stayed in many different accomodations in Old Town; Ashe Splashe is by far our favorite! Ashe Splashe's rennovation is perfection. It has all of the history and character that you want when staying in Key West with the added bonus of a modern kitchen, air conditioning (a must in the summer!) and a private pool! We will definitely stay again when we head down to the Conch Republic next summer!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: Jane and Carey like to spend winters in Key West but offer Ashe Splashe for April through November to full-month renters. The owners love the balmy breezes and funky architecture, of course, but also the laissez faire attitude of the Key West's diverse citizens, where tolerance and creativity are daily watchwords. And the air is not to be believed (except in summer when it's all too believable, but bearable thanks to central air conditioning). The first house they bought, in 1999, and did over is on Frances Street and is rented out on a year-round basis. It was perfect, and they loved it unreservedly, especially for the long weekends and occasional week-long vacations they were able to make use of it. But as Carey began to contemplate retirement, Jane realized it would be too small for more extended visits, especially if they involved the grandchildren Jane and Carey hope, one day, to have. So in 2004, at the top of the market (natch), they bought the Ashe Street house now listed on VRBO. It turned out to be a complete gut job, which thanks to the intervention of a couple of ferocious hurricanes, took about two years and twice their budget, But hey, it turned out great.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes, Old Town:
There's so much to do in Key West, from the many beaches to golf and sailing and snorkeling and kayaking (and paddle boating) through mangrove swamps. The Winfreys partake of some of these activities, of course, but also just enjoy riding their bikes around Key West (Carey loves to take photographs of the many unique houses and gardens) and sampling the town's many wonderful restaurants. They also frequently patronize the wonderful Tropic Cinema, just off Duval Street, which specializes in first-run features and quirky independent movies.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The Winfreys' Ashe Street house is in the Old Town section of Key West close to the cemetery (high ground) and to bustling Truman Avenue in a quiet residential neighborhood removed (one mile) from touristy (and sometimes noisy) Duval street. The house is close to Fausto's, Old Town's grocery store, and to Sandy's, where Carey gets his morning Cuban cafe con leche and is in walking distance to more than a dozen excellent restaurants.
