THE WRITTEN WORD

If you're looking for absolute alpine beauty, a sense of peace and solitude, Anima is for you. If you badly need to put yourself back together again, perhaps a "re-invention" is a good word - it's for you. It's a place to write, read and reflect. The stream gives answers. If you want the challenge of hiking mountains over 13,000 feet, it's for you.

We hope our guests will exercise gentle and caring use of our soul place. One of our decks has no railing so we can have a pure view, that's why pets and young kids don't work here. The stairs up to a queen bed, computer and bunks, are very steep. It's best for solitary folks, for two friends or lovers. Owners Isabel and Bob enjoy the nice extra income our guests provide; but, it's more about being happy that Anima's complete beauty gives comfort and quiet joy to all who enter. We want very much to share that blessed shift of gears that happens there, when one wanders back to a gentler space and time slows, then ... stops.

Map & Owner's Profile

Why the Owner Chose Taos Ski Valley

Isabel is a first generation Italian American whose people came from the Italian Alps. She's got a little alpine mountain in every gene she possesses and so do her grown daughters who are also avid hikers, skiiers and wilderness seekers. Robert just follows the girls.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

It's the peace, the solitude and the utter, at times, unbearable beauty, that wraps you in its arms and gives you rest.

Owner's Map of Taos Ski Valley

Isabel and Bob have traveled the world doing home exchanges. They've got a love of adventure. Bob, a retired banker and Isabel, a writer and author of Nonno's Monkey, an Italian American Memoir, spend much time at Anima, driving from their Albuquerque city home to their "real" home. They are firm believers in keeping in harmony with the beauty that surrounds their place. They are not interested in having a dishwasher, a washing machine or cable TV. They do relish PBS DVD's, good books, music, coffee with the best sweet water in the world, (same with tea) and an excellent cab on their decks overlooking the year-round Lake Fork Stream.

    • Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful in every way!!! Nature is happy that this cabin is here. You can sit on the deck to enjoy the woods, gurgling stream, birds and "peace" which surround you. You can also sit inside and note the "love" with which this cabin is decorated! May fun and friendship surround you as it did for me!!

    • Isabel and Bob have created a beautiful mountain retreat. The kitchen is a gourmet's delight and opens out in great room fashion on the dining and living rooms. The bedrooms are private and the large windows and decks bring the views of the mountain and the sound of the stream inside. Watch the hummingbirds or the dippers, explore for wildflowers or climb the mountain trails. This place has it all for nature lovers. Michal Bowen NY, NY

    • I have been to Anima three times, and each time I leave refreshed and relaxed. The cabin is comfortable and welcoming. It has been furnished with love, care, and attention to detail. Anima is a wonderful place that allows you to be as active as you wish, or simply sit back and enjoy the serenity of the mountains.

    • My wife and I stayed at Anima in late September. It was beautiful and romantic. It's so quiet at night you could hear the bears pooping. We spent alot of time by the stream just soaking up the beauty. It's also just minutes away from a good jumping off point for climbing Wheeler's Peak.

    • We spent our honeymoon at Anima after getting engaged on Wheeler Peak the year before. We loved being so close to the beautiful mountain trails of Taos in the summer. Isabel and Bob have created a peaceful, natural home nestled perfectly in the streamside scenery.

    • As you approach Anima the lovely blue door at the entrance quietly welcomes you. Before toting your stuff, take a tour of the cabin - visiting each room, the great deck which overlooks a wonderful stream. Take in the air! You will know you have chosen well. During your stay you will discover there is lots to do here and in the nearby areas. But perhaps, even better, you can choose not to do very much at all and be quite happy. (Exactly what I did during my visits). Not having to do anything can be a great vacation...ENJOY!

    • Anima is a beautiful little hide-a-way, where it is easy to become one with nature. All the stress and strain of ones busy life evaporates into the clear air shortly after arriving. There is a magic here that must be experinced rather than described. I have been there three times and each visit is one where my soul is refreshed. It is a place to be with yourself or with friends.

    • Sitting on the porch of this wonderful place over the rushing creek, watching the hummingbirds come to the feeders, is like nothing else you have experienced in a long time; utter peace. The whole cabin has such personality that you feel you have made a friend that you want to meet again and again. Of course the mountains themselves would be enough. Wonderful hikes are everywhere.

    • Before going to Bob's and Isabelle's, we visited the historic village of Toas and enjoyed the cultural feel of the area. The visit to the cabin culminated our 46th anniversary celebration. We hiked, took in the fabulous scenery and topped it off with conversation, fine wine and dinner. It was such a romantic setting and an anniversary that ended all too soon but one we will always remember.

    • This is God's place. You will absolutely love it. Peaceful, serene, full of birds and wildlife with a stream running RIGHT in front of the cabin, literally. You can stand on the deck and look at the stream rushing below. Beautiful! Then when you've had enough rest, you can take some dynamite walks in the surrounding mountains. Bring your hiking boots! Everything about this place is special. That's why it is called "Anima." My husband and I have stayed at this place many times with our kids and grandkids. We will go back many more. Hope you enjoy it also!
