Welcome Aboard!
The Golden Slipper, Boston’s B&B “Afloat” is a traditional Catalina Chris Craft. The 40’ Yacht is located at Lewis Wharf, in the heart of historical Boston. The boat stays moored at the slip and you come and go as you please. This is a private party yacht accommodating up to six guests, with a continental breakfast left for you. Cruises of Boston Harbor and dinners are available upon request, during your stay. The Golden Slipper offers the unique experience of having a Bed and Breakfast, with the opportunity to cruise Boston Harbor, for a day or sunset cruise. Guest comments from all over the world describe the Golden Slipper as a very positive experience, and a unique getaway in a very urban setting. Our guests love our fabulous location, within walking distance to many historic attractions. Escape to the boat for peaceful moments of relaxation on the aft deck, enjoying excellent views of the busy Boston Harbor. In the evening be rocked to sleep with a gentle motion, and wake up to coffee and muffins on the deck, greeting a new day in historical Boston Harbor.
We look forward to welcoming you on board!!
The Golden History
Innkeeper, Gretchen Stephenson, a licensed captain and charter chef, since 1987, started her first Golden Slipper, a 1960 Chris Craft 40' Cabin Cruiser with seventeen years of success, until it was decommissioned in 2007.
Gretchen married Jack Stephenson, first mate, in 1997 and always credits him for keeping the B&B “Afloat”. Recognizing there was a great deal of yearly maintenance for Jack on the 1960 wooden Chris Craft and limited to the dock as it had no working engines, the Stephensons decided to upgrade to their 1984 Catalina Chris Craft, as seen above.
The Stephensons have been chartering, south of Boston, offering historic boat building (1644-1878) tours since 1997. Some of their Boston guests enjoyed these tours, but many wanted to stay in Boston Harbor and explore. Gretchen & Jack realized that they should provide the option of a Boston Harbor tour so the new boat has working engines ready to leave the slip if guests desire. Gretchen’s background as a charter chef on a 65’ sailboat for 12 yrs finishes their package of offering gourmet dinners for four to six guests either on a sunset cruise or at the dockside.
Booked almost every day, during their six months season, the Stephenson's wanted to continue their B & B afloat in Boston Harbor, but make it even better. They now offer Golden Slipper II, Boston's Bed and Breakfast, Cruise and Dine. Come and enjoy this unique lodging experience.

After a scenic, water taxi trip from Logan airport to Lewis Wharf where the boat is docked, we were warmly greeted by the owner/host. In addition to giving us the operational specifics of the Golden Slipper, she provided us with an overview of the local area, complete with recommendations for dining, shopping and exploring Boston. The boat amply served the needs of my family of 5 with comfortable beds, a very workable galley, and even a great selection of Dvds! Our favorite pastime was board games on the flying bridge, followed closely by exploring Little Italy, Faneuil Hall, and the rest of Boston, which felt as though it was just a few steps off the boat. A block away is a fantastic, full market called the Golden Goose, with a wonderful selection of produce, deli items and wine. The Golden Slipper played a big part in making our Boston vacation one my family and I will always remember. Thanks!

My family & I stayed aboard the Golden Slipper for the Fourth of July holidays. A few of us traveled from the slip at Lewis Wharf up the Charles River, through the locks, and anchored near the band shell, where we were joined by a few friends. Holly was our captain & she was very professional and proficient at the helm. Gretchen served a wonderful meal, and the evening was thoroughly enjoyable. The following morning was the 4th, more family members arrived, Jack the mate (Gretchen's husband), was great about ferrying everyone back & forth to shore. We were able to walk around & check out the activities, then we all gathered aboard for the concert and the magnificent firewords that followed. There was plenty of food and beverages of all types. The following day we made the return trip to the slip at Lewis Wharf. It was the adventure of a lifetime for my young grandaughters, and something we will all cherish for years to come.

This is the latest of many stays on the Golden Slipper. I have stayed with family members and many friends and have always enjoyed myself. All of the people that I have introduced the boat to feel the same way. It is spacious and comfortable and there is nothing like falling asleep to the gentle rocking of a boat. It is only 2 subway stops from the airport and there is also a water taxi available, which is fun. It's proximity to the North End with wonderful Food and History can't be beat. There is much to do along the Waterfront and you can be to any part of the city in a matter of minutes.

I stayed on the Golden Slipper several years ago and was not disappointed with this return visit. It is an easy walk to see the sights of Boston and any easy walk to enjoy the great restaurants this town has to offer. But the best thing is to return in the evening and sip wine on the deck while the sky silently darkens and the stars come out. There is no sleep like that which comes from gently rocking to sleep on the water. Gretchen could not have been more helpful about the boat and the things to do in Boston. She is delightful and full of stories. Can't wait until I go again.

Our family rented the Golden Slipper with the Captain to celebrate my daughter's 18th Birthday! We went to George's Island in Boston Harbor and docked to tour Ft. Warren. We also walked the beaches and trails, searced for beach glass and shells on the shore. Upon returning to Lewis Wharf we had appetizers and a Bar-B Q Dinner before our hosts departed and left us for the evening. We toured Fanuel Hall,Quincy Market, and the North End. The accomodations were extremely comfortable and the location to activities was key for the teenagers. My husband and I enjoyed the solace of the back deck for evening cocktails and conversation. Will definately go back again!

My aunt and I left our car and cares behind and enjoyed two glorious nights on the water. The galley was stocked with breakfast delights, the bed were very comfy, the back deck heaven to share a cold beverage and look back on Boston skyline. Northend a few blocks away and all the Boston harbor can offer. We'll be back!!

If you want to experience the best of Boston, from the best location, the Golden Slipper is the best place to stay. This was our 3rd stay aboard the comfortable and charming yacht. This time we shared our experience with another couple and there was plenty of room for us to spend quality time together, but also having separate staterooms for alone time. After long walks around historic Boston, there is nothing nicer than coming back to the boat and enjoying a cocktail from the back deck while watching the sun go down and other boats going by. Staying aboard the Golden Slipper is a unique and fun experience.

We spent four nights aboard the Golden Slipper and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. Gretchen is a top notch hostess and was wonderful in explaining the nuances of living on a boat to us and our two young children. The Golden Slipper is clean, comfortable, and convenient to all things Boston. Many historical attractions, restaurants, and public transportation are within a five minute walk. Grocery and laundry services are nearby as well. For those chosing just to relax, the rear deck is an excellent, quiet location for watching people, the harbor and the airport departures and landings. Returning to the Slipper's quiet berth at the end of a busy day touring was like coming home. The beds are extremely comfortable and, along with the gentle harbor action, gave us our best sleep in recent memory. The folks on the nearby boats were extremely friendly and made us feel like neighbors, not just tourists. For those wishing to immerse themselves in "living" the great city of Boston, the Golden Slipper will not dissapoint. Countless kudos to Gretchen and the Golden Slipper!

After owning many boats during my lifetime,I am in a position now where I have none. I decided to rent yachts instead of investing the money with maintance, dockage, storage and insurance of a new boat. My first choise with this decision was the Golden Slipper.I was delighted that the web page truly represented this classic Chris Craft that was built with such timeless design. There was ample room, conveniences and confort for for my party of four, each enjoying there own stateroom and shower. The Stephenson's have kept this jewel in beautiful condition and have successfully for 20 years been able to offer it to others in a fabulous location, right in the heart of historical Boston.I felt right at home there and will definitely be back!

I've been staying on the Golden Slipper every year for the last 15 years and never get tired of it, or run out of things to do. Although I loved the rustic feeling of the original Golden Slipper, the new boat has more room and accommodations are even better with 2 Staterooms and 2 full baths. Everything is within walking distance, including a great grocery and liquor store! The boat is well equipped with everything you can possibly think of and all you need is some comfy clothing, toiletries, and a good pair of walking shoes. I'm going back in October for my 2nd trip this year.
