Nothing but the sound of wind and birds greets your senses in this 60's California-style, spacious home located on the crest of a dune on Lieutenant Island in Wellfleet. The views down the dune, across to Indian Neck and downtown Wellfleet, and out to Great Island from the house are breathtaking.
Lieutenant Island is a tidal island totally accessible by vehicle except at high tide when the water sometimes surrounds the quaint little one car bridge. This minor inconvenience, the proximity to the Audubon Bird Sanctuary and the extensive amount of conservation land on the island has kept it a very private and tranquil community.
As with all bayside properties on the Cape swimming and boating activities are best surrounding high tide. At low tide the water goes out pretty far, leaving the flats fun for strolling and shelling; swimming is always readily available five minutes away at Marconi Beach, a National Seashore Beach on the ocean side of the Cape. Many other famous National Seashore beaches and wonderful pristine aquifer-fed ponds are very close by as well.
The house itself is actually two - three bedroom, two bath units that are mirror images, with living, dining, and kitchen areas on either end of the house and bedrooms down the long hallway. The house could be closed off in the middle and rented separately as two - three bedroom units or as currently offered one six bedroom house offering spacious joint space for large families or groups and yet the luxury and privacy of separate decks, living rooms, dining rooms and kitchens when needed. The huge decks on either end of the house are great for entertaining or just sunbathing and relaxation.
