Stayed three nights with my husband and two daughters (11 & 13). Loved this place, especially the little path behind the cottage that led to the top of the hill for a beautiful view of the valley below. Very quiet and very nice owner.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My daughter and I had a very comfortable stay in the Libretto Cottage. We were able to cook lovely breakfasts and dinners in the kitchen( nice sharp knives!) and it was a treat to do a laundry after being on the road for a while! The side patio is perfect in the late afternoon for a relaxing sit down, and as the season progresses it would be lovely to dine out there. In fact, we liked the area and accommodations so much that we are returning very soon!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children.

The cottage was very quiet and seemed secluded. But it is only 5-10 minutes from the grocery store, gas stations and 101 highway. Very conveniently located. Close to wineries at San Luis Obispo and also close to Pismo beach. We had a relaxing time at this place. Will definitely be back. Oh..and great hiking on the property. The view from the top of the hill was beautiful.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This is a cute little cottage. My fiance and I stayed here during a friend's wedding (the bride and groom were in the other cabin on the property). It worked out really well to be so close to them, and to their wedding venue. The cottage is well equipped with reading material and resources for hikes and what not around the area. It is very quiet, and not far from downtown SLO or Pismo Beach. We did not do any cooking while we were there, but the bed was quite comfortable!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Some of the Best Moments of My Life in this Cabin

I lived in this cabin from about 1988 through 1992 when I graduated from Cal Poly with degrees in OH and LA. I spent many, many days clearing the hillsides of poison oak and planting and dividing succulents, natives, and edibles as well as clearing paths up the hill to various view spots and special trees. I hauled compost and manure to the sandy soils of the valley and gardens and lived in what I now realize was the ultimate paradise. Driving out to the beaches to run and surf, it was an amazing time in my life. I love seeing how the new owners have improved the cottage, but sad to see the frog pond/planter box and greenhouse gone. I really, really want to come spend some time there and see another sunset from the ridge top. It's been too long and it looks so enchanting now. Great job you guys! I could not recommend the space highly enough. It's truly a magical spot. It's wonderful and exciting to realize the space is available on a daily basis.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Hi Dave, We would love to have you visit and see all the improvements that we have made since we purchased this place in 2004. The property was dirty, smelly and in much need of fixing up. I would like to know what you know about this place. thank you for the great review. David

My husband and I love to get away from the hustle and bustle of Silicon Valley and found this cottage online. Looked like a reasonable price and good size for us and our toddler. The owners made every effort to make sure we were comfortable during our stay. We loved the location, only 10 minutes away from downtown SLO, but secluded in the hills. This place would be perfect for a small family, or even a girls wine tasting getaway. We will be back for sure!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We found the Libretto Cottage just perfect for our week get-away to the Central Coast. Things we most enjoyed, hiking in the Irish Hills and along the coast by San Simeon, renting bikes from Wally's Bike Works and riding the loops around the area and up to Lopez Lake, of course wine tasting around the Edna Valley, and eating out at Jocko's in Nipomo, Luna Red and Chiopino's in San Luis. The cottage was very clean and well kept, kitchen decently stocked, though if you are a serious cook we'd suggest bringing your own spices, etc., wireless worked most of the time. It was fun looking out across the fields watching the horses and deer. David was very helpful with any details about the cottage and was very quick at responding. This is a great vacation location and we would definitely consider returning since there are still a lot of things we haven't seen, like Morro Bay, Pismo Beach and the Paso Robles wine area.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Why the Owner Chose San Luis Obispo:
We had it in our minds that we wanted a piece of property that was large enough to afford us plenty of privacy, yet close to town as we are both still working and did not want to be far away from the conveniences of town.
Long time anti-hotel travelers, we also wanted a piece of property that would give us the opportunity to share our locale with others via a vacation rental or B&B.
Our realtor called us saying 'You've just got to see this property, it's perfect for you!'. It was, we fell in love with it and have been updating, remodeling and relandscaping ever since. It's our labor of love which we enjoy sharing with others.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We enjoy all the peace and quite of country living and yet we're close to town. It's just 5 minutes to the nearest Trader Joes and any other shopping you could want to do.
A brief 10 minute drive puts you in either the beach communities of Grover Beach, Oceano, Pismo Beach, or Shell Beach, with San Luis Obispo, or Old Town Arroyo Grande just minutes away.
There are no street lights and on clear night the stars will dazzle you, especially if you live in the city where it's easy to forget how amazing the starry heavens are. Wildlife abounds, you'll see deer, fox, quail, the occasional bobcat, a variety of hawks, falcons and our ever present owls. The location is quite, private and relaxing.
