My fiancé and I rented Andrew and Sally’s beautiful condo for one week in January and it was one of the best vacations we’ve ever had! Driving up to the Kawama Yacht Club, the first thing you see is the palm trees and tropical growth. The grounds of Kawama are very nicely manicured. Check in, the lock box /key entry, finding the condo from the main road in Key Largo was all very unproblematic. Being at Kawama Yacht Club feels like you’re away from the world, yet your only a minutes’ drive from events, dive centers, stores, excursions, and restaurants. There’s Ballyhoos restaurant, where we ate the best lobster, key lime pie, and all you can eat stone crab claws in all of Key Largo. We had a wonderful breakfast at the local’s favorite, Docs Dinner. The Conch House, and had a great Conch Chowder, which if you go to the Keys, you have to try! The Pilot House and Calypsos was also nice! They are both on the same road as Kawama Yacht Club and are within walking distance. If you eat at the outdoor bar you get a great view of incoming boats and pelicans in the marina. The Big Chill, is on the water, and the sunset from the outdoor bar is nothing short of stunning! There is also a Kmart and Publix grocery store close by. If you go to the Publix, you have to buy one of their key lime pies, they’re amazing! The condo was perfect! When you walk in, you’re greeted by beautiful tropical Florida design! The leather couches are clean and in great condition, both bathrooms are very nicely done, the carpets are clean, the balcony is tiled with clean furniture to relax on, and the kitchen is very clean and fully stocked with everything you would need to cook a meal! The new bathroom with the tiled shower is very nice! The other bathroom is good also, as it has a bath tub, perfect for taking cool baths, after a long day in the sun. The TV in the living room is big and has a great picture on it. Over all the condo was updated, clean, and comfortable. My fiancé and I spent our days lying by the pool, we’d move to the beach and then to the lagoon! I didn’t know a lot of history about Kawama until we arrived and I was greeted by some of the friendly locals at the complex. Apparently the area was host to the navy seals training program back in the day. The lagoon, at the deepest is 65 feet deep and has two ladders that extend down to the bottom. There is a plethora of tropical fish and coral in the lagoon. I strongly suggest going to the local dive shop and purchasingDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 7/7

Very nice contact to the owner who called us the first day. The appartement is very well equiped, you feel that the owner spends also his time there. We felt at home! Only the beach of Kawama is not so nice, only if you like diving. We´ve spend a very relaxing time at Kawama Beach!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

My family and I stayed at Andrew and Sally's condo for a week in September. We had a great time! The condo was very clean and comfortable and easily fit the family, with room for more. Andrew and Sally were very friendly and nice to work with in renting the condo. Andrew even called the day after we got in, to make sure everything was okay. If you are looking for a condo in Key Largo that is clean, comfortable, and not crowded with tourists, this is the place to go. We will definitely look to go back the next time we go to Key Largo. Thanks, Andrew and Sally, we had a great time!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The pool was great, the kids (9 & 11) loved it (we also!). Lot ot things to do in the neighborhood, lot of good restaurants and shopping. Many of the other reviewers have said all there is to say about Andrew and Sally's apartment. It is bright and spacious and kitted out with everything you could want. I like to cook and we ate in quite a bit. There are plenty of supermarkets and small shops within a short drive. The kitchen had all the pots, pans, knives and tools you could possibly want. All really good quality. We also ate out in many of the local restaurants. Go to the locally owned and run places for excellent atmosphere, quality food at good value prices. Our girls 16 and 18 loved the supersize plasma and really got into 'American telly'! The air con works brilliantly and is very quiet. We needed it for our two week stay with ambient temperature hitting 104f. But amazingly hardly any biting bugs. The showers were refreshing and there was constant hot water. The apartment does face north, which helps to keep it cool, and there are distant views of the Atlantic. It has a very pleasant outlook from the apartment and the balcony through the swaying palms. The Marina, the groyne and the beach area are to the south of the building as shown in the pictures. The complex is quiet, safe and very secure. Even in mid summer we often had a choice of pools completely to ourselves. In the whole of our two week stay we only saw the tennis court used twice! The grounds are well maintained. If you love any water based sports, fishing, boating, snorkelling etc you will not be disappointed. But be aware that access to the see from the beach may be difficult because of seaweed. The beach area was clean pretty and functionally, lots of seating. But it is not the soft white sugary sand you will find in Miami. You have to have your own transport. Miami is about an hour away, but its an easy straight drive. So you will have good access to some fantastic shopping and the surreal delights of South Beach. Key West is a must, I would agree with another reviewer that it is worth staying overnight down there. We drove there and back in a day, twice. The four of us easily agreed that this was one of the best holidays we have ever had. I can promise you we all have such different tastes that this in itself is a minor miracle! Finally, I must say that Andrew and Sally are so helpful and knowledgeable. We took a laptop and had many wifi conversations with them. Plus Andrew contacted us by phone just to check all was okay. All in all faultless, we would definitely return to this apartment.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Staying at the Kawama Yacht Club in The Tower was a happy experience. We were a group of 6, two Grandparents and a family of four (two boys 5 and 9). The appartment was better fitted out than most holiday rentals we have used before. In particular it was very well air conditioned as we were there in some hot weather (95F+). Decor and cleanliness were more than satisfactory. The Yacht Club has a permanent security guard and this was both good and bad as occasionally getting back in could be delayed until the guards returned to the entry office. It felt safe. Facilities were excellent, the whole complex was tidy and well looked after. There were tennis courts that we used and a pool yards from the elevator to the tower. In addition there is excellent snorkelling off the end of the pier by the small harbour, fish including Parrot Fish, Angel Fish, small Barracuda and many more. There was a small shallow sea beach suitable for children, though ours preferred the pool. The complex was quiet during our visit so that the pool in particular was never busy, even at the weekend. There were several restaurants and supermarkets within easy reach of the appartment and bearing in mind the children's needs enjoyable, Mexican, Italian and American all sampled. Key Largo was easy to reach from Miami airport and proved a reasonable base for visits to The Everglades and further down the Keys. Key Largo its self is though not the prettiest part of the Keys. Would we stay in Kawama Yacht Club again, and in this appartment in particular, Yes indeed. Thanks to Andrew and Sally for their business like but friendly renting procedures.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children.

Our experience was positive right from the beginning dealing with the owners of Kawama condo. 406. The e-mail inquiry was answered promptly followed by a personal phone call from the U.K. We found the cond.tastefully decorated, (not cluttered), clean, and fully equipped with all necessary utensils and appliances. The condo. unit and surrounding grounds are exactly as pictured on the web site. The grounds, pool, and beach area were immaculately kept. Our highlight the first evening was watching the sunset from the beach point. The Everglades, John Pennecamp Park and a days visit to Key West were a few of our tours. Kawama and its surrounding areas are ideal for touring, shopping, observing wild life or just sitting leisurely by the pool. One of our favorite local restaurants was Mrs. Mac's Kitchen with it's good food, unique atmosphere and great "Bloody Marys". The owner called midweek to inquire regarding our satisfaction and any other needs or questions we might have. We spent two weeks this February at Kawama unit 406 and were so pleased we plan on spending three weeks next year.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Had a great time in the Keys despite being stuck inside for 2 days because of a tropical storm. Totally different from the Florida we have experienced before (Kissimmee, Orlando) more relaxing although a bit pricier for eating out. We didn't stay in this Condo but in another recommended and booked by Andrew & Sally and they could not have been more obliging. The views from the tower, overlooking the marina and pool and out to sea were brilliant, pool was lovely, although it filled up with crabs after the storm but the children enjoyed "rescuing" them. Best food at Rib Daddys or Harriets for breakfast. Children loved swimming with dolphins, feeding tarpons and pelicans and snorkeling.Recommended for: Families with teenagers

This is a beautiful apartment in a delightful setting. Kawama is a quiet and secure resort away from traffic noise but close (walking distance) to good restaurants. The resort itself is lovely with a small beach and lots of relaxing areas. The pool for the tower users is clean and private and the other residents were friendly and helpful. The information provided by the owners beforehand was invaluable and their recommendations for eating out and places to visit were all great. If we come back to the Keys again we would not hesitate to stay here.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We really had a lovely time and the apartment was exactly as described. The lounge area was very comfortable and it was all very well equipped. We were two lots of two so the apartment was perfect as there is a bathroom attached to each bedroom and gave each of us a lot of privacy. I would however seriously question how comfortable it would be for 8 people but for four it was fantastic The pool area was very pleasant and did not get too crowded and was spotlessly clean. There is not really any where that is an easy walk to eat or drink so you will need a car but there is plenty of safe private parking. There are no refreshments in the pool area but the apartment has cool boxes which were used frequently I think other posters make affair point about the pillows and it was a bit like lying on a crisp packet. I suspect most people did what we did and took the protective covers off which does defeat the object and I would suggest getting fabric covers instead. We heard no noise from neighbors and the layout seems generally to be very well designed. the location is close to the highway but no traffic noise and generally a very peaceful break. There was no loud music or music in the pool area The TV, DVD and CD are all of a very high standard but you will need to bring your own discs as there are none there. We were very impressed overall with the property and would recommend it to othersRecommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Our family of 5 stayed here for Christmas week. We would absolutely come back and stay again at this same location. The condo was bright and clean. It was well equipped with everything needed for an enjoyable stay. The pool is beautiful. You are literally minutes from snorkling, fishing and every other imaginable tourist attraction. The Kawama Club is serene and quiet and more importantly...safe. For those looking for a little excitement- there are numerous bars, restaraunts and other clubs thats are minutes away. It was a fantastic stay!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is the second time we have stayed at Kawama and each time it has exceeded our family's expectations. The condo is just as pictured, beautifully furnished with all the extra's like decent knives and wine glasses that make it a home from home. Our son loved swimming and watching the fish in the lagoon and the fact you have access to two other pools is great. This year some of the residents organised a Christmas BBQ on the beach and everyone was invited-what a way to spend Christmas Day! The information provided by the owners re where to eat, shop etc was spot on and saved us a lot of time. In summary a lovely condo in a secure fab location- so good our friends are booked in this month. We will be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Gabi Trimmel from Austria - 3rd time visitor - really enjoyed our stay this year : Margaret Mason of Lightwater - I am very pleased we were not disappointed, the apartment had everything we needed and offered a very comfortable base for us to explore the Keys south to Key West and north to Miami and the Everglades. When I booked I was not sure that Key Largo was the right location for us. I am very glad that we did. We had a wonderful time. Needless to say in our stay we only covered a small proportion of what the Keys had to offer. We will pleased to visit Kawama Yacht Club again : Mark Thomason of Warrington - second time visitor - Again we had a really enjoyable stay : David Woodhouse of Uxbridge - Thanks for the lovely apartment, really enjoyed holiday and will do it again : Chris & Nicky Cross of Northampton - had a lovely holiday and didn't want to come home, thought your apartment was brilliant and very comfortable : Anne Mills of Chatham - Your place was lovely :Did you find this review helpful? My family stayed here last year and it was definitely not what we expected. There is absolutely no beach no View and the carpeting looked worn out. Also the lagoon was not fit to snorkle in and no other key was left for the elevator. Thank goodness on our first day there we ran into another couple that had the elevator code or we would have been sunk. Also no internet connection what so ever unless you went to the inner court yard. That was terrible because you were bitten by bugs. I would never stay here again, terrible representation by the owners and pictures, very very disappointing! The beds were terrible covered in plastic! horrible horribleOwner response: This review is both factually incorrect and misleading, and was strangely written 6 months after the person stayed at the property, which they had previously not raised any negative issues about. 1. The beach is as our picture on the website – Digital pictures do not lie. We are not sure about the research you did or didn’t do. The Keys do not have beaches with miles of perfect white sand. Typically Keys beaches are small crescents of mixed coralline white sand within rocky escarpments as well as boardwalks in many public places. It is this topography that makes the Keys unique in Florida and give rise to the excellent water based activites such as diving, fishing, snorkelling etc 2. Our view is exactly as described on the website to quote – “ocean view from an elevated 4th floor aspect whilst we enjoy a unique 'tree-house' effect of adjacent breeze filled swaying palm trees." - We even sent you a further picture of our view before you rented. 3. We have just returned from an 11 week stay in our unit – our carpets are modern and in excellent order. High traffic areas are covered with washable Rugs with designs by Guy Harvey. Beneath the carpets are like new. We place a couple of runners under the edge of the sofa and the entrance which we renew periodically. 4. I can’t answer your point on the lagoon as I am not sure in what way you are saying it is “not fit”- You will see the post on the web from our Christmas renters 2007 – who loved swimming in the lagoon. Fact is, it is full of 10-15lb colourful Parrotfish which are a delight to snorkel with and hand-feed. Whilst it is not full of coral heads, it has growth of various seaweed’s. It is kept healthy as an environment via tidal influence and the presence of several large aerators and any foreign debris is removed by the maintenance crew who are active Mon-Fri. 5. We always only provide one key for the elevator as per our joining instructions which you received 11 weeks prior to your stay- If you had asked for a second this could have been provided. Key access is maintained to ensure privacy and security for occupants of the Tower. Number access was removed in November 2007 as the code had been given against tower rules to renters by owners. 6. We did not advertise any internet connection as being available until we changed our advert in December 2007 to include this facility. I don’t think I would be advertising the fact that I had hacked on illegally to a third party wireless internet connection if I was you. We guess you made an assumption as to internet availability as we communicated by email to you from Kawama during our stay in the Spring 7. Unfortunately we do get bugs in the tropics – especially around dusk and when it is still. Kawama actively sprays on a weekly basis to keep bugs to a minimum. Fact is, if you visit the Keys in the middle of Summer, and you go out the first hour before the sun gets going or the last part of the day -you are going to get bitten by no-see-ums. Every guide book, tourist manual and trip advice tells you to bring Sunscreen & BUGSPRAY. That said, the situation is infinitely better than even 5 years ago though as Mosquito magnets have contributed to a decimation of the Mosquito breeding stock, and it’s only if you get some west winds blowing over from the Everglades that you get a spike in numbers. 8. The mattresses are covered in mattress protectors for the hygiene of all renters as is recommended by various authorities. Bedbugs are non discriminatory as to where they set up home as long it’s safe, warm and has food for them. It’s a subject that no-one likes to discuss. Everyone is in denial. The wider ‘hosting industry’ because it’s bad for trade; individuals because bedbugs bear a personal stigma. The ‘I’m too clean, it couldn’t possibly be me’ syndrome being prevalent. But let us talk candidly…… Factually we have not experienced an issue ourselves, but know of two other property owners who have don

We are a family of 5- 32, 32, 9, 3, 1.5 . We spent a month here over last christmas and had a wonderfull time and would and WILL go back again. It is perfectly positioned for exploring the florida keys miami and the everglades one thing i would say if you are going to visit key west stay the night down there and come back the next day- you dont want to leave before sunset and the drive back to key largo in the dark is a long one!! The apartment was wonderful we did not want for anything- clean comfotable mod cons aircon roomy etc- and was a great place to come back to after a day exploring. The Resturants in the local area are fantastic we ate out nearly every night for a month and never had a bad meal (stay away from snooks though- highly overpriced)My choice harriets for breakfast buzzards roost for supper. Owners Andrew & Sally are very freindly and there knowledge of the area is priceless.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 21/39
