This region is a former island and collection of hunting camps just southwest of the city of Traverse City. Boone’s Long Lake Inn – the destination steak house – is just a couple miles away.

This peninsula is unspoiled, populated by interesting people just as it was 75 years ago – many, the same families. The sunrises and sunsets, boats, barbecues, campfire pits and languid days seem ageless. Nothing really changes very fast here, except the seasons.

The moment you cross the narrows the rustic log character of this private peninsula will take your breath away.

“Barefoot & Sandals” is two unique “connecting” cottages that share a common wall but no adjoining door. Half is available as a weekly rental - the owner maintains the other side for personal use.

Long Lake is one of the most desirable lakes near Traverse City and is the preferred waterway for swimming, fishing, water skiing, boating and more. For those who love to fish, Long Lake offers the best walleye, perch, bass, bluegill, northern pike and muskies fishing around, so bring your tackle box.

This private peninsula is beloved. The fourth generation cottage owners are fiercely protective of it’s individuality. The sweet smell of campfires and toasting marshmallows fill the summer air, pontoon boats dot the shoreline, and the sounds of songbirds abound. The property is mosquito-abated so you can enjoy your evenings outdoors. Privacy fencing shields Barefoot & Sandals from view of the neighbors. You cannot see the structure from the road. The association beach is a 1/3 mile walk, and three bicycles are provided. There is wireless and two TVs.


"Sandals" is Key West in styling - airy and spacious. Amenities outdoors include a gas grill. The living room has a gas fireplace. There is a wet bar/kitchen, curtained outdoor gazebo room, a large roof deck off the huge king-size bedroom, a sleeping area with two twin beds (you must walk through the Master and the bath to access the second sleeping area. At your request, linens can be rented for $35.

There is an association-owned beach and boat launch 1/3 mile away so you may bring your small watercraft, and a huge park with playground equipment and picnic tables just around the corner. Keypad lock combination is changed between guests and I will provide you your new combination before your arrival.
