We are in secluded woods on a high hillside looking straight at Mount Nicholas across Lake Wakatipu and with a view of the Remarkables mountain range to the east of Queenstown. It is 6 km (less than 4 miles) from Queenstown centre to the bottom of our road, Moke Lake Road (itself a wonderland of lakes and fishing and long walks on dirt roads).

Wakatipu House was built in 1987 by Ken Cochrane of Queenstown and Mike and Nancy Roullier of Copper Center, Alaska, who knew a lot about log cabins because they lived in one! Along with their two daughters, Jessi, 11, and Becki, 8, they lived six months in New Zealand in order to build this house for Nancy's sister, Martha Holmes, and her husband, Chuck Currie, both of New York City.
Chuck and Martha had come to New Zealand in 1986 to see Halley's Comet, which was visible only in the southern hemisphere. They fell in love with this uniquely beautiful land and its fun-filled people.
They'd like to share their dream house with you.

Incredible view from the balcony/living area. Really spacious. Cottage a bit dated so it's got that musty smell. Contact tel. numbers not working so we had some anxious moments a few days leading up to the rental date but everything turned out as promised. E-mail messages were promptly addressed. Bottom line - we'll go back again if the opportunity arises. Can't beat the views, the space and the privacy it offers.
Recommended for:Families with teenagers.
