You've never seen anything like it. Let's start with the house; an eccentric, artistic, retrofit of a barn and a standing vernacular home connected by a greenhouse/hot tub room that makes you feel cozy and in the middle of the wilderness at the same time. Artisan touches include exquisitely carved beams, functional metal sculpture, a "wildstyle" fireplace and hearth, a spiral staircase picketed with apple and pear limbs, an outdoor swinging bed (the dream machine), and other details too numerous to mention.
Summer or winter the gathering spot is the huge kitchen/dining/living room area where kids can play, adults cook, and slackers can pull books off the well stocked shelves and ride the plush couches or comfy chairs. In summer you'll move out from there to the giant wrap around decks complete with two hanging beds, for cocktails and river viewing and in winter you'll retreat the opposite direction to the Fred Flintstone hot tub room for a soak in the unique hot tub.
Upstairs find a sleeping loft furnished with a queen sized bed and two twin beds in an alcove, very cozy! Open the window in the summer and let the sound of the river take you down, down down... The master bed and bathroom are also on this floor, both airy and oversized, with a star gazing deck perched off the bedroom. The bath is equipped with a steam room and his and her sinks. There is also a bunk room adjacent to the master but not separated by a door.
Down the back stairs there is a bedroom furnished with a queen sized bed and another bedroom with a queen and a set of bunks. Both are paneled in warm pine finished the old Scandinavian way- sans trim. Beautiful! The downstairs bedrooms share a bath equipped with a 6' claw foot tub accessorized with shower hardware. The floor is limestone pavers which feel great in bare feet- especially in winter when the hydronic heat warms them. Downstairs further is a T.V. room with a large sectional which can serve as two twins and a twin futon couch . Out on the porch are two hanging beds, the most sought after cribs in the summer. We have slept six on the king sized one.It has sides to hold everyone in and is decorated with giant soft pillows and kilims. It also has a magnificent view of the mountains. The other bed is a full and has a view of the river!
In Summer slip out the back door for explorations along the Magical Methow River. The property stretches along 1500' of riverfront with many shady nooks to view wildlife from (you will see many many deer, otters, and various other critters here) or write in that journal you've always promised yourself you'd be attending to. And fishermen- seize the day! This stretch of the Methow has a huge population of rainbows, cutthroats, and, in the fall of the year, steelhead. Flies only please! In the wintertime you can traipse along these same byways with only the hush of the river and shush of your skis to accompany you. Birdwatchers also take note- the Methow Conservancy surveyed the property and found the highest concentration of migrating songbirds in the entire valley here.
If your objective is sheer relaxation, wander no further than the paradisical pond, complete with huge decks, a gazebo, and a pure sand beach, that lies to the north of the house. The olympic size trampoline pretty much provides for the kids all day entertainment.
Also, if this house isnt big enough for you we have another house next door with a pool, jacuzzi and four bedrooms.

We had 3 familes of 4 stay in this wonderful, eclectic home. This home gave us tons of space to sprawl and never felt as though we were on top of one another. The hot tub is an artistic wonder. I highly recommend spending time soaking. For entertaining, the kitchen/dining/living is HUGE---perfect for a gathering of many familes. My favorite spot in the house is in the living area by the fireplace. It is a large bed, covered in an oriental carpet, surrounded by books with a curtain to hide yourself away. Just amazing. The curved stair case leads you up to a hidden gem of a bedroom, perfect for kids to hang/sleep/play. The setting is equally marvelous. You can see the river from the kitchen window. Just lovely. I have to say I really liked staying in Twisp. Sun Mtn was only a 20 minute drive, as was Winthrop. We felt very close to some of the best skiiing in the area. I highly recommend staying here if you are someone that appreciates a home that is not your cookie cutter prefab cutout. This home is artistic, soulful, warm and unique. Enjoy!

My extended family of 11 spent 4 fabulous nights here over Christmas. A great house with so many areas to spread out and find a favorite spot - often the nook off the living room you could find up to 4 of us cozily reading our books. Even when we were all gathered together in the same room there was plenty of space. Two things we look for when we rent a home - a wood-burning fireplace and a table large enough for us to all eat together. This house delivered that and so much more! The Methow Valley is absolutely majestic and this house is pleasantly located - we enjoyed watching the light play off the surrounding hillsides as the sun moved across the sky.

We have taken a large group to this house twice for winter ski trips. It is a fantastic residence – chock full of art and artful living. There’s a surprise around every corner. All the rooms are comfortable, the hot tub is wonderful and the kitchen caters to an extremely large group – room enough for many to participate in meal prep. There are lots of hidey holes so that everyone can find some private space, even with a sizable group. Plenty of snowshoeing on the property along a bend in the Methow and close to Sun Mountain skiing. Love it. Hoping to spend some hot summer days there next time.

We have stayed at this amazing property twice during the winter months and could not have asked for a more wonderful experience. The house is spectacular and the owners are unbelievably easy to deal with and accommodating. We brought a large group both times, including grandparents and small children and it exceeded everyone's expectations. The furnishings, art and bedding are all exceptional and the recent improvements have only added to the experience and we can't wait to visit in the summer so we can sleep on the porch and take a dip in the swimming hole. The property is perfectly suited for multiple families and large groups with plenty of privacy. The kitchen is fantastic; we cooked for and served 16 people without a hitch! The pictures on VRBO don't do this property justice, particularly if you are planning to go in the winter. The view of the sunset and sunrise is unmatched and the there is so much to do within a 10 min drive, but its also the type of property you would never have to leave! This has definately become an annual tradition, maybe even twice a year! Thanks for everything Ali and Peter!

We've been here twice and can't wait to go back. We showed up with three families, all with kids. Any fears of being cramped were unfounded. The place is beautifully sited on the land, and had more bedrooms than I counted. From outdoor beds to the largest reading nook I've ever seen, it's built with a sense of joy. Sitting on the western facing porch, drinking a beer while the sun set and the kids played on the trampoline, it could not be more relaxing. It's great in the summer, of course, but we went back in the fall and had a blast. The clean pond still works for an invigorating dip, and we got sun while it rained in Seattle. If you stay over a weekend, be sure to visit the Saturday Twisp farmer's market. The produce is stunning and half the price of the city.

We celebrated my brother's birthday party here in mid winter. The house is expansive enough for everyone to have privacy, but it unfolds into amazing congregation spaces! The living room/dining/ kitchen proximity makes room for a huge group...while feeling intimate. We loved the hot tub and the hill for sledding. I imagine that time spent by the pond in summer would be incredible. It was a wow! Hope to return again and again with my entire family!

A small group of moms and kids stayed here in the fall of 2008 and LOVED it! The kids had a blast in the soaking/hot tub and on the trampoline and they loved the "'secret" door upstairs. The whole house is just funky and stylish and there is colorful art everywhere you look. Wild woodwork and interesting craftsmanship; it reminded us of Swiss Family Robinson! Lovely property too, overlooking the river. We had deer in the yard every morning. Very quiet and peaceful. The perfect retreat for a family or group.
