We were 4 adults, each 55+ plus three twenty-somethings. Everything that has been stated by other guests is absolutely true. The photos on the website are very accurate, BUT even fabulous photos still don't give you a sense of how this house makes you feel. It's as if the house becomes another member of the family and is ever present to watch over you and make sure you have everything you could possibly want. Charles and Helena Kairys have thought of every detail and while we didn't meet personally, we all feel we've been treated like treasured guests in their home. Day 1: all of us checked email and voicemail intermittently throughout the day Day 2: electronic usage waned, we used the computer to look for touristy things to do Day 3: no desire whatsoever to turn on cell phones or computers - we were totally into listening to the sounds of the waves and doing absolutely nothing! After that it was all vacation and we completely forgot about the rest of our lives. Day 7: we remarked that no one had turned on the television all week except to watch "Shark Week" on the Discovery Channel. The family was able to reconnect and have the most wonderful vacation we have ever had. This is redundant, but there is literally everything you could wish for here at the Kairys' house, including sunscreen and beach hats! The kitchen, great room, bedrooms and baths all have abundant supplies and although we spent hours each day in the ocean, hot tub and sauna, we never ran out of plush dry towels. We could prepare any kind of meal because there were kitchen tools galore. We looked forward to this week for about 7 months and it was better than anything we could have imagined. I wish the same for you! We wholeheartedly recommend this property to any single family or group, and sincerely hope to return.

We didn't want to leave. This home on the bluff is beautiful inside and out. Our two families enjoyed every aspect of this house - the views, the spaciousness of all the rooms, the amazing and beautifully landscaped outside space including the roof, comfortable beds, really nice bathrooms - you won't believe the room size master shower, the hot tub and sauna, the fireplaces - it was pleasantly chilly at night which was a welcome change for our group, the artwork, the unique and comfortable furniture, the location. This house has it all! Our two families, which included 4 teenage children, had more than enough private space as well as plenty of room to gather as a group. We played cards and games around the huge dining room table each night. This home would also work nicely for up to 4 couples. The basement level is like an apartment and was perfect for our 3 teenage girls to share. The master suite is huge with an incredible view of the Pacific. We ended up cooking and eating many more meals "in" than we thought we would because we just didn't want to miss the amazing view of the sunset every evening and the kitchen was very well equipped. The birds eye view of the dolphins and surfers isn't bad either. We had our own private beach in front of the house and our kids enjoyed walking down to Beacon's and Moonlight beaches to check out all the activity down there. We all walked to Beacon's and took surfing lessons our first day and then practiced the rest of the week with the boards at the house. This location is very convenient to San Diego attractions and numerous wonderful golf courses, if you can pull yourself away. Encinitas is a funky little beach town with a lot of character that we enjoyed exploring. Mr. Kairys was very nice and extremely helpful. We all agreed that we want to come back next year! Thank you Mr. Kairys for sharing your little piece of heaven with us.

Just enjoyed Spring Break at the Kairys house on the ocean and it was fantastic - the picture on VRBO is real as this place sits on a bluff just over the ocean with steps to the beach. Two families - 4 adults, 4 teen children had more than enough space with great furnishings, well-equipped kitchen, beach toys, and incredible, incredible views from everywhere - the top deck, the master, the living room, and the patio area. We all walked the beach daily; my son & I surfed every day at the break right in front of the house; and the other kids used the boogey boards that came with the house. It's a great place for a big family or 2 families who enjoy being together at the big round dining room table or spending time on their own in the huge master, the 2nd master downstairs that's almost it's own apartment, or on one of the decks or patio. We started every day with coffee on the top deck watching the surf, including dolphins playing in the waves. Highly recommend for adults or families with kids as there is a lot to keep the youngest thru teens active and happy.
Owner response:The house was new 14 years ago and after all this time we as owners have become too accustomed to the many wonderful features and now too often we take them for granted. After reading a review like above, I am able to re-capture the many beautiful fascets of this beach house. Yes, it's large, 4,400 square feet is a large house but when you add in the ten foot high ceilings throughout the house and 20 foot ceilings in the great room, the house appears even larger. Nothing pleases us more then to know that your family had such a great time. Thank you. CharlesK

I cannot say enough good things about this place. The owners have done an incredible job of making their rental location "visitor friendly." Everything you need to enjoy your stay is there ready to go. The view is tremendous and the direct access to the beach is increidble. This location is so desireable that I almost hesitate to write this review as I hate to tip others off to such a great gem. I want this location to be available whenever I am in the area.
Owner response:Chris, thanks for your kind words. So far everyone who has stayed at our beach house has been impressed and has had only nice things to say. Perhaps the photos that I took with a $75 camera just don't do justice to the architecture of the home and a personal visit inevitably prompts our guests to make complimentary comments. And let me not forget what a fine job of decorating wife Helena has done. Thank you.

We rented this house for a ten day vacation to get some sunshine and fresh air in the middle of the winter. It was absolutely fabulous. There is so much light in the house and gorgeous views from the enormous windows, and the weather was almost perfect. We even had several good beach days. The house was very spacious, very comfy, and although not officially child proof, it was a home that was great for our two and four year old kids. The best part for me personally was leaving the balcony door opened a bit at night -- hearing the waves and breathing the sea air all night. I haven't slept that well in years! The owners were wonderful. We will definitely be back. Sooner than later, I hope.

We spent 2 weeks here over the Christmas and New Years holidays. The house is perfectly located with an unbeatable view; you will miss the sound of the crashing waves when you leave. The furnishings are welcoming and very comfortable. The kitchen is extraordinarily well-equipped. There are wetsuits and surfboards to use. Chuck and Helene are very gracious and helpful. Everything you need is within walking distance. Recommendations: Peachy Tree on Jupiter & PCH for fresh produce and the best homemade salsa & chips; La Papagaya on PCH just North of Lucadia for breakfast burritos and carne asada; the Wine Store liquor store on PCH just North of Jupiter for an excellent selection of microbrews, wine & cigars.

My wife searched virtually all the beachfront properties in Encinitas and Leucadia and found this gem, which is definitely the best. This wonderful house is in an idyllic location perched overlooking the Pacific. Situated on a bluff with steps directly down to a quiet stretch of beach this is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the sunshine and ocean. The house is very spacious, comfortably furnished and decorated and extremely well equipped, with large flat screen TVs, a well-equipped kitchen designed for entertaining, surf equipment and even a sauna. The large open plan room downstairs is a wonderful space for kids (we have 3). A fabulous house in a fabulous location, well worth traveling the 4,000 miles from England. Owners friendly and helpful. Our verdict: California living at its best, we have already booked again for next year. Tim & Susanna Perutz Oxfordshire, UK

We just returned from a one week stay at this property. The pictures on the website are great but once you are actually in the house it is absolutely beautiful. We consisted of two familes with chilren from 4 to 13 years old. The beach was great for boogie boarding and surfing. It was very easy to watch your kids because there is no public access to the beach near the house. It was like having our own little ocean. We were a little concerned about the stairs to the beach but we quickly found out they weren't so bad, even for the 4 year old. Plus the excercise helped work off the donuts we ate from an excellent donut shop that is a 5 min walk from the house. Something else you don't see on the website are the bathrooms. They were awesome. All 3 of them were extremely spacious and the master bath has walk in dual shower large enough for the whole family. We had a great time and would highly recommend this property. The owners were great to deal with.

We spent a wonderful week in this spectacular ocean view home high on the bluff in Leucadia. Stairway directly to the beach made it easy for the extended family to boogie board, body surf, walk on the beach or just sunbathe. Home was extremely well appointed with large screen LCD tv's connected to satellite tv with numerous channels and speedy wi-fi throughout the house. Very clean and full kitchen. Gas BBQ and a large patio overlooking the ocean. Excellent location and very positive, helpful owner.

PERFECT. That’s how we would describe our fabulous week at this gorgeous beach house!! The home is so open, spacious, and beautifully decorated. We loved eating meals and playing board games on the patio overlooking the ocean. Our children (9 and 10) had a fabulous time. They spent hours surfing and boogie boarding at the beach directly in front of the beach house. My elderly parents were with us and the stairs to the beach were too steep for them so we drove them to Moonlight Beach, very close by. The location is conveniently located to the local attractions – San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Legoland, Wild Animal Park. This vacation was one of our best ever - every bit as nice as our annual Hawaiian vacations - and actually nicer, due to the luxurious accomodations. We highly recommend this beach house and will definitely be back again!!
