This lake house is a great place to spend with family or friends. The house was beautiful and supplied with everything necessary to ensure a comfortable stay whether it is a romantic swing by the lake, or sharing s'mores at the fire pit with friends. We had a large group of twelve people and each one of us had a blast! The owners were very welcoming and accommodating to our needs. Everything was just as advertised if not better. We had a great time here; our only regret is that we didn't book for a longer stay! We can't wait to come back!

Many branches of our family tree gathered at this beautiful riverfront home for a holiday visit with our Mom and Aunt who live in a nearby retirement community. This was one of the best equipped homes we have ever rented; there were towels galore in the bathrooms, a fully stocked kitchen and a computer and WiFi. The owners, Dave and Janice, are a wonderful couple to work with. Dave even helped unload my sister's car in a downpour. The sunroom was fabulous and was decorated for Christmas. Our Mom and Aunt were thrilled and we are all hoping for a long relationship with the owners as we plan more family gatherings.

Just spent Christmas at this beautiful home. The pictures do not do it justice. The views from the sun room of the river are majestic. 8 of us (inc. my 3 mos. old grandson and 2 yr. old granddaugher) had a wonderful Christmas together for 4 days - eating, playing games, taking walks, watching tv and "just being together." The kitchen had everything except an apron and a baster!! But the men picked up the slack and cleaned the kitchen most of the time. Would love to return another year.

We stayed in this river house over a weekend for a girls getaway. It could not have been any better!!! Dave and Janice were amazing throughout the entire rental process from answering all of our questions before we came, helping us settle in when we got there, and doing anything they could to make our stay the most enjoyable one ever! They were an absolute pleasure to deal with! The amenities in the house were SO extensive- They thought of everything that you could possibly want in a home away from home! And the view from the house was way better than any picture than we had seen beforehand. It was the most relaxing way to spend the weekend and get away from it all. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer!! I highly recommend this house to all that want to a worry-free and enjoyable vacation!!

Our family rented this wonderful riverfront home to spend time together and celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. When we arrived we were very pleased. The description and photos were quite accurate. The house was well stocked with everything we could possibly need and more. The house had a warm feel to it, which made it very comfortable and relaxing. The owners of the property were terrific. Dave set our sons up with some fishing gear, and they enjoyed a fun afternoon catching small mouth bass from the riverbank. My elderly in-laws were able to watch from the deck and the beautiful sunroom that overlooks the river. A scenic boat ride up river topped off the day. Later that evening we built a campfire and toasted marshmallows ( a gift from Dave and Janice) along the river. The weekend flew by way to fast, but we certainly have many wonderful memories. We would absolutely recommend this riverhouse to anyone.

This is a quote from my Mom "this was the best birthday ever". It was a celebration of her 80th birtrhday. We all had a wonderful time at the River House. Family from Indiana, Florida and Pennsylvania were able to get together in this beautiful house. I think we spent most of our time enjoying the sunroom. Watching the birds at the feeders right outside the windows was very enjoyable for us and our guests. Since we were originally from PA we were able to have a reunion with family and friends. We did quite a bit of cooking, using almost every dish in the well stocked kitchen. We were able to have an early Thanksgiving dinner together (for the first time since I can't remember). Speaking of well stocked ...there are plenty of towels and linens. The kids really had fun in "the Hangout" upstairs. The adults enjoyed the swing down by the river...just watching the river flow by. My Mom loved the views from the master bedroom. She could watch the river from her bed. I believe our family created some fond memories during our stay at the River House. Thank you, Janice and Dave for sharing your house with our family.

This place was truely our home away from home!!! It was the perfect location for us. Perfect for my family who loves the outdoors. It was also perfect for the part of my family who loves to sight see and shop. Several evenings on our way in we would stop on the road to the house and watch nature. On our last night we saw 5 deer. That was always exciting for the kids. We would highly recommend this home to anyone.

Dear Janice, Gene and I wanted to thank you guys for the wonderful vacation we had at your river house. It was amazing! The kids and grand kids had a blast! We could not begin to say what our favorite was because it was ALL so great! Thank you for all the little extras you did to make our family feel comfortable and at home. Many times over the kids (our boys especially) said that your river house was the perfect place for us to gather for our ‘first time in 20 years whole family vacation”. !!! You really helped to make it perfect. There was really nothing at all we could have ask for -- we had it all! And we thank you from the bottom of our hearts ----- all of them! I thought I would send you a few pictures of our fun times. Feel free to use them in any way you want. Hope to see you again sometime. Sorry to say it will not be in 2012 both our son Caleb (army) and our daughter Chastity (Air Force) will be in Afghanistan during the summer please keep them in your prayers. Thanks again for the wonderful time. Love and prayers Glenda and Gene Collins , Coeburn VA

The week we spent at the River House will be remembered as one of our best family vacations. The location was perfect for visiting Hershey, but even better was enjoying all the home had to offer. The house was very charming and filled with everything needed for cooking, taking part in water activities, or just hanging out. The view from the house was awe inspiring and the river offered hours of enjoyment. The kids enjoyed tubing, kayaking, fishing, and making s'mores by the fire pit. The owner's and their son were perfect hosts and we can't wait to return.

We are two families with young children from Virginia and New York, and we decided to meet in the middle at Hershey Park for a long weekend. This house provided exactly what we needed. A retreat for the adults and a lots of play for the children. The home had all the accomodations needed for a nice weekend. We did some fishing, boating, sitting on the deck, roasting marshmallows, grilling and we had a wiffle ball tournament. Only 20/25 minutes to Hershey park but well worth the drive because we could all stay together in the same house. The owners are very sweet and accomodating - great vacation to be had by all.

I honestly have to say that this was overall the best home we have rented for a large group vacation. We had three families, 6 adults and 4 children under 4. The house fit us perfectly and we did not feel cramped, there was plenty of comfortable seating and areas for the kids to play indoors and outdoors. The dining table is large, which was awesome as we ate in most evenings. It is a beautiful home with a beautiful setting. The hosts were gracious and you can literally just bring your clothes and some food...everything else is taken care of! We really enjoyed our trip and all the family attractions that central PA has to offer; Train ride through Lancaster, Caverns, Hershey Park, Hershey Zoo, Science Center... Melissa L.

My friends and I have been going on ski trips together for 9 years (we all went to high school together and now live in separate states). We rented this property for a weekend in February and had a great time. It was the perfect midway point for those of us traveling from NY, MD, PA, and DC. Even though it was very windy and there wasn't much snow, we still have a great time. The house was very clean and updated, and the perfect set-up to sleep 12. It It was a reasonable distance from ski roundtop (about 25 minutes) and there was a lot to do around the house for those of us who didn't ski. The owners were so welcoming and made a great effort to ensure that everything in the house was just right. We would definitely go back to this house in the future!

Stayed during MLK weekend and it was cold outside, but ever so toasty inside. My family absolutely loved the decor and coziness of the house and all the amenities offered. Wifi, great kitchen, beautiful sun room and great lake for photos outside. I would recommend this stay to large families who love to spend time together and would definitely stay there again. The hosts were so thoughtful, respectful and also timely. The contact response was always quick and the deposit refund was just as quick.

FIVE GOLD STARS FOR HOSPITALITY AND COMMUNICATION! The Waltz’ “River House” on the Susquehanna provided the perfect early December home-away-from-home for our Southern Maryland party of 10 which included three young children, two teen girls and five adults. The description of the home was perfect; the sunroom gave us a warm, comfortable vantage point for a wonderful view of the river. The thoughtful planning for the guests of this home was apparent, from the prominently positioned operating instructions for the various utilities, to attention to unique needs such as a convenient first aid kit---IT ASSURED A STRESS FREE VISIT! We want to plan for a return in the Spring or Summer months to take full advantage of the outdoor activities although the kids truly enjoyed their s’mores around the outdoor fire. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for the variety of outdoor activities and a trip to Hershey Park, with the benefit of a gracious host!

We arrived tired after a long flight and a couple of hours of grocery shopping at the local Costco. But when we drove up to this home on the river, our spirits and body were renewed within minutes. Our daughter, husband and two children (ages 8 and 10) greeted us with much excitement about their bedrooms, the kayaks, the big yard, the deck...really everything about the place. We quickly put away the groceries that needed to be refrigerated and headed down to the river. From that moment onward, it was hard to drag any of us away from either the hammock, the swing or the chairs that overlooked the water. Although there were hiking trails nearby and we had bought our hiking books, we never ventured on the trails. The plans to visit Hersey Park were put on hold for another year or so. The girls did manage to visit the Amish countryside (while the guys fished, read or caught up on computer work) and had an enjoyable tour of the area but the week really was all about family time and river activities. My favorite memory is seeing our two grown children and their young ones, paddling their kayaks at dusk. It made a wonderful photo. In addition to the kayaks, we threw the Frisbee, we swung out on an awesome rope swing and dropped into the river, our son's 3 and 5 year old caught minnows and enjoyed the shallow river's edge, we build a fire every night in the fire pit and enjoyed coffee every morning on the deck and we laughed and played all week as a family. It truly was a magical place for a family reunion. Thanks Dave and Janice for all your attention to details that make guests feel so comfortable and pampered. You are both wonderful magicians.

My wife and I and our three children, ages 12, 8 and 5, enjoyed a week long vacation this August at this wonderful lake house that has it all. The kitchen is fully equiped with appliances and utensils making it easy to cook at home on those days you just don't feel like going out to eat. The master bed room is huge with great vistas of the river through its many windows. The other bedrooms are also spacious and nicely appointed. My two boys especially loved the two bedrooms they stayed in on the third floor because of their club-house like feel. The beautiful sun room is a great place to read a book, play a board game, build puzzle or surf the net on the available computer or use your own with the available wifi. Off the sun porch is a spacious deck from which you can take in the beauty of the Susquehanna River. The kids and I enjoyed using the kayaks and also rented the available john boat which has a small 10 HP engine. We explored the river up and down, visting the small islands across the way. We saw juvenile and mature bald eagles, beavers and deer. The kids spent their afternoons splashing and swimming about in the river, fishing for bass, and had a blast catching the crayfish that were swimming about the river. Janice and Dave are gracious hosts who think of everything by providing life jackets, fishing gear, water shoes, and inner tubes for the use of their guests. On top of all that this home and its immediate surroundings have to offer, you are just a short drive away from a number of great Pennsylvania attractions: Hershey Park and Chocolate World (30 minutes), Lancaster County and its Amish attractions (1 hour), Gettysburg (35 minutes) and the Pro Bass Shop Megastore (15 minutes). I would not hesitate to recommend this property.

It was an amazing week spent with my family. The view of the river and beautiful wildlife were breath-taking. Mornings fishing, kayaking and taking trips with the motor boat really made our stay unforgettable. Beautiful clean house with amazingly kind and welcoming owners, Janice and David. Their hospitality made our stay warm and comfortable. During our stay, we visited the Amish country and Hershey park which was less than an hour away. This will definitely not be our last visit. I would recommend this home for my friends and family.

"We truly enjoyed our second visit to this property. It is just as described and the home is lovingly maintained and well-stocked with all the amenities anyone could want. The river is absolutely beautiful at all times of the day and the watercraft provided with the house allowed us to take full advantage. We caught lots of fish and crayfish, boated and kayaked and tubed on the river, saw lots of amazing wildlife including birds, insects, bunnies and even a mink swimming by! We enjoyed spending two days at Hershey Park, located only 30 minutes away, and another great afternoon at the Lake Tobias Wildlife park which the kids loved--it was only about 15-20 minutes from the house. We enjoyed grilling out on the deck and having a campfire down by the river and toasting s'mores. The owners were very kind and helpful in telling us about the river and the area and we would highly recommend this property to anyone who enjoys playing outside. A wonderful family vacation!"
Owner response:Thanks for your comments, Laura. We thoroughly enjoyed hosting your family for your second visit at our river home, and we look forward to many more to come! Janice

11 of my friends and I rented this house on the second weekend in December, and we had an absolute blast! We've been going to Hershey during the Christmas season for years now, and staying at Janice and Dave's house made this trip twice as much fun. The house was set up to make us feel at home instantaneously and succeeded in doing so. On top of that, Janice and Dave were extremely hospitable and easy to work with. There's nothing quite like have a warm outdoor fire next to a river in the middle of winter. We had plenty of space inside to have a variety of activities going on. In short, we loved it and hope to make it a continued tradition for years to come.

We recently rented this property for our family to stay at during our wedding and it was wonderful. The house was very spacious and comfortable for everyone from my 88 year old grandma to my 12 year old nephew! The view was amazing! The kayaks and gear was all available for the whole family to get out on the river. We were married at the Peter Allen House in Dauphin, PA just minutes away from the house! I would highly recommend this rental to anyone, especially anyone having a wedding there! The location was great! I can't say enough good things about it! Thanks for a great week!

Our family has been staying in vacation homes around the country for 12 years and this was clearly one of the best. The physical facilities were everything that is advertised (and we have found some that were not) but the personal care and attention of the owners to details and service made it truly special. We were able to sleep our family of 12 comfortably, really enjoyed the spacious rooms overlooking the river, and the kids made great use of the kayaks. The proximity to the historical sites of Gettysburg, Philadelphia and Washington were all within a days drive, and we made other excursions to the Amish country of Lancaster county and Hershey. Side trips for some to the Applachian trail were great. Restaurants are few nearby, but plenty in Harrisburg 15 minutes away. We particularly appreciated attending Mass in a quaint old church in Dauphin. Don't be discouraged by the short road off the highway with all of its potholes, you'll relax and enjoy your visit, I gurantee you.

Our stay was in April of 09 with four adults and three children ages three and under. The house, bedrooms, common rooms, and outdoor deck and yard presented many different areas to relax and play so that a group of our size wouldn't feel cramped; however if closeness is what's desired, the living room and sun room are so cozy and comfortable while providing ample seating for many people. The river view and back yard with the deck, tree swing for two, floating dock off the yard, kayaks, canoe, and flat bottom motor boat make this an outdoor oasis. Myself and my family are from a rural area and even we didn't feel any lack of privacy from the neighbors who are just a stones throw away. The early morning hours in the sunroom with a magazine soaking in the rising sun rays and the plentiful river bird species absolutely spelled r-e-j-u-v-i-n-a-t-i-o-n for me. The location is a bit away from it all, but if you covet your privacy while being only 10 minutes from the big town and 20 minutes from Hersheys attractions than you will love this place. The highway and freight train are close but that aided with convienance to grocery shopping, dining, etc. and the train is great for the kids and part of the river houses charm. The owners can be described in one word as gracious, and while they are somewhat new to the process according to them, they appear to be very open, and inviting of any suggestions that guests may have. Janice and Dave (the owners) are very hospitable and welcoming and exhibit a down home charm and an good knowledge of the area and it's dining options as well as the historical significance of the sorrounding area. Great option for any family or group of friends staying in the area.

First, working with Janice was wonderful. She was very helpful, responsive and informative throughout our arrangements. Secondly, the property was exactly as described and portrayed in the photos --- the house was extremely clean, the beds were really comfortable and we had everything we needed for our short weekend visit. Unfortunately, for a March rental, it was cold, the water was high and the grounds kind of muddy, so we didn't spend much time outside. But the birdwatching was fantastic out of the bright, sunny enclosed porch area and we enjoyed meals and chats in the cozy chairs there all weekend, as others have mentioned too. The only things that i could suggest relate to "toddler readiness" - it would be a nice option or amenity to offer "child proofing" if guests(like us) have a little one -- safety latches for kitchen cabinets, maybe a crib/pack-n-play and bedding, safety gates for stairs, radiators, that kind of thing. It was not a problem for us - just some ideas to consider. Thanks for a great rental - it was really perfect for our needs.

We visited for business but found tons of pleasure. It is located with quick and easy access to the Farm Show Complex as well as other areas of interest. We have so many fond and special memories and are so pleased we had the opportunity to be able to stay there. We hope to be able to go back when we can get back to the area again. What a wonderful five days we spent in your exceptional home by the river. We came fully equipped with hiking gear and maps to accomplish a lot of hiking in the Harrisburg area. Once we arrived and spent some time in the beautiful sun room enjoying the views we decided we didn’t want to leave. The hiking gear stayed in the car and we enjoyed five days of chilling out and enjoying the home and the river. We were even lucky enough to get some pictures of 2 or 3 bald eagles roosting in trees on your lot!

Gorgeous views of the Susquehanna River from the sunroom, deck and master bedroom and easy access to the river at back of house. Lots of comfortable, cozy seating. Plenty to do - great having boats right at the house, games and even binoculars for birdwatching. Some nice details like candles, terry cloth robes and portable stereo with collection of cd's in the master bedroom and even a fire ring for evening campfires. What a great house for a family of nine, covering three generations, to spend a week together. The layout made it so easy to be together but still have your own space. We loved sitting and reading in the sunroom and watching the river from the deck. The location made it easy for us to visit Gettysburg, Hershey, Strasburg, Lititz and the Amish countryside but everyone was glad to get back to 'our river home' at the end of the day. We looked forward to playing on the river in the kayaks and building fires to roast hot dogs and fix s'mores. Thank you Janice and Dave for the special things like tomatoes from the garden, fresh picked blueberries and especially for the ingredients for s'mores. Thje Abury and Helfrich families July 08
