You will want to spend hours just hiking and exploring this tranquil wooded property. Across the street is a huge U.S. Forestry Service Tract for unlimited adventure.

This traditional log cabin was built with hand hewn timbers; which were saw cut only for window and door openings. You have to see this log cabin in person to fully appreciate the old world craftsmanship. The traditional construction includes a stone stacked fireplace and hardwood floors throughout the cabin; updated with a wall mounted LG Flat Screen Television displaying 150 stations and many other modern conveniences. This is truly a 19th Century style Log Cabin; updated with 21st Century technology.

This beautiful log cabin is centrally located in the Smoky Mountains between Asheville (50 minutes) to the East, The Cherokee Indian Reservation (30 minutes) to the North, Tennessee (50 minutes) to the West and Georgia (20 minutes) to the South. You can do everything or do nothing and enjoy either one! But, be careful, if you come once; you will want to come back every year! Indeed, you are likely to end up moving here.

We have put a lot of time, thought and energy into making this log cabin the ideal destination for a memorable vacation in the Smokies!

New Log Cabin on 13 Acres of Mountainside Close to Everything

Year Purchased: 2008

Why the Owner Chose Franklin

The Smoky Mountains has been my family's vacation destination ever since I was a young child. The Franklin Area is special in that it is tucked into the Smoky Mountains and yet it is central to many locations for day trips to Asheville, Atlanta or Pigeon Forge.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

Our property composes 13 acres up to and including the ridge of the mountain that it is situated on. It is across the street from a large tract of land owned by the United States Forestry Service. As such, wildlife are sited frequently on our property. The drive to our property sets the mood with long views of various mountain ranges and lovely large tracts of land.

A
Mill Creek Golf Course

The best golf course in the Franklin Area. It is just 3 miles from the Cabin.

B
Winding Gap Stairs

A great hiking destination. Water falls and water features. Easy access and parking. Located just 5 minutes from the Cabin.

C
The Fun Factory

This is a great stop for families of all ages. This large converted factory building has a huge number of video games, bowling, laser tag, putt putt golf, bumper cars and a top notch go cart track. Also included is a great restaurant, The Boiler Room, a pizza buffet restaurant, The Pizza Factory and a desert restaurant. Next door is the Smoky Mountain Performing Arts Center. All about 8 minutes from the Cabin.

D
The Little Tennessee River

The Little Tennessee River is a teriffic site for tubing, wading and fishing. It runs through Franklin and can be accessed at many points; including along the new Greenway.

Owner's Map of Franklin

My name is Laura Fromknecht. I am a Kindergarden Teacher in Franklin, North Carolina. My husband, Ken handles most of the reservations. We moved to Frankin from Stuart Florida in 1998. We love living in the Smoky Mountains and wanted to share that love with others by building a classic hand-hewn log cabin for family events and vacation rentals. When building and decorating the home we were careful to do everything we could to make the cabin a first class destination; fitting of the 13 acres of mountainside it sits on. While we plan to build more cabins in future, the first cabin is currently the only one and gives our guests a great deal of privacy and freedom.

We enjoyed a mini family reunion over the New Year 2011 / 2012. The layout was great for our families and dogs and being able to go out of the door and do a hike up the hill was great.

Our stay in the cabin was great. We enjoyed the beautiful fall weather very much. It was a great location for us. We went to the Biltmore in Ashville. Very nice drive just over an hour. We also went to Pigeon Forge. This was a great drive over the BlueRidge Parkway. Also, just over an hour. Franklin was nice to hang around too. The owner was very nice and helpful. Look forward to one day returning!!

Great Mountain Retreat

Our family stayed at the Dancin' Bear Cabin over the July 4th, 2011 holiday. The accomodations were beautifully decorated and the linens, kitchen, etc. were well stocked. Each morning as the mountain fog cleared we saw deer on the mountain from the front porch! It is very quiet and peaceful, yet just a short drive into town. Plenty of hiking nearby, but our favorite Rufus Morgan Falls is just a few minutes away. The guys went to the Dirty John shooting range in the National Forest for some practice. We had a picnic on Lake Glenville on the 4th and swimming and boating cooled us off. Thanks for a great vacation memory! Hillyard Family, Lakeland, FL

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent week stay at Dancing Bear cabin. If you are a hiker, you will enjoy the many hiking trails in the area including the AT. My young boys enjoyed the Fun Factory in Franklin and my wife enjoyed the Scottish Tartan Museum. My favorite part was the day trips to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. If you have kids, or are a kid at heart, I highly recommend the tube trip down Deep Creek as well as the ranger led kids programs at Smokemont and the Visitor Center. The cabin is very well designed and furnished. We were very comfortable.

We stayed at Dancing Bear cabin in early May. It was in a great location with easy access. The owner was easy to work with and responded quickly to questions about the cabin. We went to Highlands one day and it was an easy scenic drive. We also enjoyed Cafe Rel in downtown Franklin.

We stayed at Dancin' Bear Cabin in July. The home is brand new and beautifully decorated. The owners have gone to great lengths to make this home a treat for their guests, right down to the fancy soaps in the bathrooms. The kitchen was very well equipped with a large country-style table in the eat-in kitchen. The beds were a dream to sleep in and the beautiful leather furniture in the living room was VERY comfy! One of the best things about this home is it is centrally located and has a nice paved drive that's easily accessible (you don't need 4WD to drive up it). We will definitely be back.
