Ocean Dream is a serene retreat in Yachats - gem of the Oregon Coast. Built in 2007, it features a knotty pine interior, crank handled wooden windows, and historical architectural touches guaranteed to delight. It is cozy and comfortable, and it's just steps to the beach. From every room, you can look out over the estuary where the Yachats River flows into the ocean and watch the changing tides and gorgeous sunsets. Open the gate in the yard, go down the steps, and cross the road (Hwy. 101, but it's just 2 lanes, 25 mph) to two state parks, one of which features the best sandy beaches and swimming in town.
If you're a cook, you'll appreciate the herb garden's fresh oregano, mint (great for mojitos!), rosemary, and thyme. In the summer, feel free to use the organic roses to make a batch of rose petal jam; or trim some lavender to add to a glass of cold lemonade.
Yachats itself is a charming village with great restaurants and shops, including a market and video rental store. The 804 trail lets you walk for miles along the ocean. You can enjoy a massage and ocean view hot tub at a local resort. You can also drive a short way to hike to the top of Cape Perpetua through temperate rain forest, visit Heceta Head Lighthouse, descend into the world's largest sea lion caves, climb the sand dunes in Florence, stroll Newport's bay front and visit microbreweries or the aquarium, or enjoy a kayaking excursion in local rivers and marshes. Or stay inside with a book, some music, and the fireplace.

I’ve stayed at this cabin several times over the years. It brings feelings of quiet, peaceful comfort. I love the wood-burning fireplace at night. So enjoy the sunset over the ocean from the upstairs alcove. Landscaping around the cabin is filled with flowers and wildlife that visit regularly. Taking the steps through the garden down to the road is a fun way to get to the estuary. It’s a short distance to town and ocean so I find myself walking everywhere. I recommend this special cottage for a Yachats stay; I’ll be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I stayed two nights in this lovely cottage during our trek up the Oregon coast. The moment we drove into the drive and walked in the door we knew we had found a gem. The house is beautiful inside and out, and has all that you need for a very comfortable, relaxing stay. The deck was enjoyable for viewing sunsets, admiring the beautiful flowering shrubs and watching the deer that visited the yard each morning. The location is private, yet just a short scenic walk into town or to the beach. I seriously did not want to leave. Our next visit will definitely be for a longer period of time.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We are a family of 4 who have fallen in love with Oregon. Each summer we come for a visit and are trying to see all 4 corners of the state, along with all in between. Yachats is just big enough to have what we wanted and small enough to not attract the throngs of other tourists. This home has gorgeous details inside and out, to die for lavender and hydrangeas, cozy outdoor spaces, beautiful bedrooms and baths. We easily walked for coffee and bakery goods, seashell hunting, and fresh caught dinner. The nearby main road was not noisy (it's below the home) which was our only real concern before we saw the place. We will go back!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This is really a wonderful cottage, everything is beautifully finished. It is cosy and warm inside and the nook is great for reading. The outside deck has a lovely view and is great for sunset watching. Yachats is a really good base for travelling up and down the coast. We had a wonderful time and hope to back some day.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My two sisters and I had a wonderful "sisters" vacation at this lovely home. It stocked everything we needed. We only brought groceries and our personal items. It was cozy and warm, with a perfect floor plan for us, as we needed a handicap friendly home. The ocean views are amazing, and the covered deck was roomy. Everything was in working condition, and the house was spotless. It was a beautiful and easy drive to adjacent towns and state parks. Thanks for sharing. We will return! (The window seat was my favorite spot, great for viewing the "resident" deers.)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We have stayed in vrbo homes all over the world, and this would rank near the very top. It is so intelligently designed, the location across from the beach was very private but accessible, and the home had everything we needed. We are planning to return next summer. About the owner: Elaine Watkins is a retired high school English and history teacher who now lives in Healdsburg, California. She fell in love with Yachats many years ago and vowed to have a home right where Ocean Dream now stands. She loves to travel and has a passion for organic gardening.

Yachats has that special energy - it's an intimate, open-minded, friendly small town with excellent amenities. You can walk anywhere - the beach is just steps away - and the forest comes right down to the shore. A river runs out to the ocean, creating an estuary where we've watched whales and eagles in the same afternoon. The restaurants are excellent, and you can walk to the market and buy anything you'd need to make a delicious meal. On a rainy day, you can go to the local spa, have a massage, and sit in the soaking tub watching the waves.

Tide changes are a feature all our guests comment on - the estuary makes the differences quite dramatic. You stop watching the clock and instead tell time by the ocean.
