Deep in the heart of old France, this is a charming and comfortably remodeled stone farmhouse in the spectacular natural regional park Livradois-Forez. The hilltop property is at an altitude of 780 meters, on the edge of the hamlet of Dassaud, in St.Victor-Montvianeix, a large and sparsely populated, wooded commune in the mountains north of medieval Thiers, southeast of the spa-city of Vichy, both 30 minutes away by car, in the department of Puy-de-Dôme, region of Auvergne, two hours west of Lyon.
ACCESSIBILITY
It is located 5 hours due south of Paris by car and 3 hours south of Paris by train to Vichy, where car rentals are readily available. The regional capital city of Clermont-Ferrand is 60 km or one hour across the valley below and to the west. There are three nearby airports with car rentals readily available: Clermont-Ferrand Aulnat, 45 minutes; St. Etienne, 90 minutes; Lyon Saint-Exupéry, 2 hours.
ACCOMMODATION DETAILS
This is a cozy, three-story house, with both a wood-burning stove and electric heaters. The ground floor plus veranda is 35 square meters and each upper floor measures approximately 25 square meters. It has a completely equipped kitchen, gas stove and a clothes washer and dryer. The two bedrooms have excellent queen-sized beds with memory foam and down quilts. There is a queen-sized sofa bed in the upper bedroom, along with a television, DVD and VCR. There is a beautifully tiled bathroom on the first floor with bathtub and shower, while the second story bathroom has a large, newly tiled stall shower. There are toilets on every floor. The ground floor living room has a cozy sitting area around the wood-burning stove and an upright piano, as well as an audio system for listening to CD's and cassette tapes. The entry room is a well-insulated glass veranda, perfect for enjoying meals and gazing at surrounding nature, such as the multitude of wild birds which come to enjoy the vast garden.
GROUNDS
Outdoors there are many beautifully landscaped flower beds, rose bushes, apple and cherry trees. There is a large garden and a private outdoor shower and bath for summer use.
The property is on the summit of a ridge with beautiful views across forested and rolling hills. From the garden, one can see the sun rise behind the hills to the east and set behind the mountain Puy-de-Dôme and its chain of volcanoes to the west.
This is an ideal place for people who love nature, quiet relaxation, beautiful surroundings and have a desire to experience French country life.
ACTIVITIES
Hiking on trails through the woods and hunting for mushrooms
are great pleasures without poison oak or poison ivy to ruin the fun. Bicycling is the main local sport spring to fall. Snow-shoeing, cross-country and downhill skiing are nearby in the winter, and there are ski stations about an hour away.
Throughout the year there are open markets 20 minutes away in three nearby towns, specializing in local and regional food products world famous for such specialties as Bleu d'Auvergne, Forme d'Ambert, salt-cured ham and organic (biologique) fruits and vegetables.
The Regional Park Livradois-Forez offers many sites and activities year-round. Just across the valley, the magnificent Chaîne des Puys of Auvergne Volcanoes National Park offers great hiking and skiing and is home to Vulcania, the European Park of Volcanism.

- Upon arrival, the house will be thoroughly arranged and clean.
- The house must be neat and clean before departure. A cleaning service can be arranged at extra cost if required.
- Rental periods are from 16:00 arrival day to 10:00 departure day.
- For reservations to become effective, a deposit of 50% is required 4 weeks before arrival.
The balance due upon arrival along with a $260 or €200 security deposit, which is fully refundable on departure subject to there being no breakages or other damage to the property.
- A cancellation charge of 50% is imposed if reservations are canceled 2 weeks or less before the start date.
- Rates include electricity, firewood, water and bottled gas.

We fell in love with this property on a vacation visit in 1991. We bought it a year later and continue to remodel the house and work on the land every year since. We lived here for a number
of years before wanting to be closer to our grandchildren more of the year. So now, we visit when we can, and rent it out when we can't.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Utter calm and serenity, in the midst of nature. Glorious sunrises and sunsets. Nothing but our garden, wooded hills, forests and trees in view. High peaks in the east and the Chain of Volcanoes across the valley to the west. Incredibly star-filled sky at night. Long walks in the woods, filled with mushrooms in the Summer and Fall.

if you like nature and prefer a very quiet place to party life, this is your choice! the house is not very big but comfortable. we spent most of our time in the huge garden with its fruit trees, vegetables and beautiful flowers.there are excellent and affordable restaurants within 15 to 25 kilometers distance. we went for daily walks in the big forest which is only two steps away from the house. we were happy to stay in this house for 4 weeks each in 2009 and 2011 and plan to go back soon again! it's a super place!
Recommended for:Romantic getaway.

Nous reviendrons, c’est sûr ! Une petite maison à l’orée du bois avec une cheminée et une véranda lumineuse : l’idéal pour se retirer dans le calme, se balader en forêt, cueillir des châtaignes et respirer l’odeur des mousses. C’était pour nous, une jolie parenthèse d’automne. PS : De plus, tout est bien pensé pour faciliter le quotidien.

We found the house warm and nice. Inside every thing is here to make a nice food and to take rest. Outside we loved as much to stay in the garden than to discover the nature all around. So it's avery nice and peacefull place.
