The "Love Shack", as it is known, is an affordable, cozy, quaint, romantic cabin in the woods on Lake Travis. There is a trail taking you by tall bamboo, native flora, fauna, and trees down to the (drought dry)cove below. You will see many birds, butterflies, and other wildlife on the property.
This is an eclectic neighborhood and a beautiful, simple, and lush property. The cabin is small and intimate, made for only one or two and has simple comforts such as a pillowtop queen mattress and a mini kitchen with a mini sink, stove, and fridge if you want to prepare your own meals. There are many fun and delicious restaurants nearby as you are not here to cook . . . hopefully.
In close walking distance is Sail and Ski Yacht Club Marina where you can possibly rent or charter a boat for the day. In addition, there is Hurst Harbor Marina, Emerald Point Marina, and Lakeway Marina. All of these marinas have restaurants and bars and a couple are live music venues. Johnny Fins at Hurst Harbor is a live music venue with good food where you can dance on their large dance floor under the stars and over the water. It is a floating restaurant. Emerald Point houses Carlos N Charlie's, a fun filled to be seen at venue, after a day of people watching and hopping from boat to boat in the famous "Devils Cove". Lakeway Marina has a more upscale dining and bar area with great views of the lake. In the past, a boat taxi (not sure if the boat taxi is still available) could be taken from Lakeway Marina across the lake to one of my favorite restaurants, Shades Cafe (now The Pier) where the catfish outnumber the people- it is home of the un-cat-chable Catfish "Fat Albert".
To the south, on Hwy 71, lies "The Backyard", a large live music venue where celebrities such as Willie Nelson often play under the large live oaks and stars. And to the North, on the other side of the dam, is the Oasis, with its spectacular decks and views. This is also a wonderful place to dine and dance to great live music. In between, and very close to the "Love Shack" is Iguana Grill overlooking Lake Travis, which has great music, great Mexican food, and great sunsets. This is why they call Austin, the "Live Music Capital of the World". And this isn't even in Austin, it is Lake Travis, a suburb West of Austin. Our little quiet cabin is located in the heart of all of the above.
Other good restaurants to try include Hill Country Pasta House, Rocco's, Flores Mexican, Cafe Lago in Lakeway for breakfast and lunch, Upscale 5 Star- Hudson's on the Bend for dinner, and there are probably others.
A perfect day on Lake Travis is enjoying the water and sunshine by day and choose from the medley above for night time activities. There are also nice canyon hiking trails, tennis, and golf inside Lakeway, a brand new Mall at Hwy 71 and 620, and a myriad of things to see and do in Austin and the surrounding Hill Country.
The "Love Shack" is a fun and affordable way to see and enjoy it all.
