Come enjoy the beauty and serenity of Vallecito lake. Our Rustic Cabin will bring you back in time with our vintage sports equipment decor. Come relax on the deck over looking the lake. In the winter enjoy over looking the ice fisherman shanties, snow shoers and kyte boarders on the frozen lake. When you're done relaxing, try the Snow skiing (2 ski areas within 60 miles), snow and cat ski adventures, cross country and skate skiing trails 5 minutes away, or just Snow shoe out the front door. In the summer you'll be in walking distance to the lake, creek and Doc's Marina. (Where you can rent a boat, jet ski or just fish)we have some fishing poles for you too. The quaint Vallecito Market is a short drive north, where you can find supplies, video rentals, good food and whatever else you may need... When you are completely exhausted from all the fun activities, the cabin is stocked with wood to keep the fire crackling and plenty of board games to keep you busy, and our sweet TV video games, no not play station and all that high tech garb, this is a cabin, so how about Atari, Pacman and Frogger for some laughs.;)
Our Cabin really brings you back to the basics. Come sit by the fire, play board games and reunite with your friends and family the old fashioned way.....But, if you are looking for a little more excitement, Durango is only 30 minutes away where you can find fine dining, night clubs, Live music venues, etc. Your options of things to do are endless within an hours drive, but you'd probably prefer just sitting on the deck with a hot toddy, smelling the fire and gazing out at the lake.
There is cell phone reception at the cabin or if needed a pay phone just down the driveway at pine river lodge.

We are still talking about how much fun we had in Vallecita. Pictures could never do it justice. Staying in this quaintly decorated cabin was no comparison to staying in a hotel. It gave us the feel of camping with amenities but without the commercial feel of a hotel. The view alone made it all worth it. The kids enjoyed the Atari games and exploring trails and waterfalls. And, we all loved watching the birds and chipmunks come up on the deck. Although exciting, the bear gave us a little scare. The weather was so refreshing. Never a dull moment, there was always something exciting to do and see. We went whitewater rafting, horseback riding, rock climbing and jeep riding. I could go on and on. We will definitely be back. I can't wait to see it in the winter. Thank y'all so much for sharing you're awesome cabin!

We stayed in the cabin from August 8 thru the 12th. Loved the cabin and the deck. You could not ask for a cleaner place to stay. We did some fishing and spent a couple of days hiking. Grilled out every night and just had a very relaxing week. After the hot summer we have been having in Wichita Ks. it felt great to get up in the mountains. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

The view of the lake is amazing! The weather was great while we were there so we spent most of our time on the deck. The birds were fun to watch as well as the deer that grazed all around the cabin. The cabin was cozy and comfortable. Cute decor and very clean. We enjoyed hiking, trail ride from near by "The Big Corral" and Virginia's night life was a highlight for dancing.

Our family spent the first week of August 2009 here and had one of the best vacations we've ever had. Cute, comfortable, rustic--it's a wonderful cabin with a killer view. I am sorry not to have written a review sooner--I logged on to check the cabin's availability for this summer. We will be back. Trust me--sometimes you wonder whether you've done the right thing when you rent a place you've never seen. You won't be sorry.
Owner response:Thank you so much, glad you had a wonderful time. We sure love it. =)

We stayed from July 13 through July 20 2009. We did not want to leave. It is so nice in this area. The cabin reminded me of natures little nest. We have pictures of deer that came so close you could almost touch them. We woke up to a great view of the lake from the cabin deck, at sunrise and ate dinner on the deck to watch the sunset. I would definitely stay here again.

We were looking for the perfect peaceful and romantic setting for our 7th Anniversary trip to the mountains. We certainly found it when we found the Barbers' Cabin on Vallecito Lake. The cabin was immaculate, comfortable, decorated cleverly in antiques, and provided everything you could possibly need. It was quiet and tucked away from all the noise of the world, but close enough to many activities that we enjoyed on Vallecito Lake or Durango. It was very important to us to have a nice view and a deck to relax and enjoy. The cabin was beyond belief in that regard. We loved how the cabin was arranged because it not only offered a view from the deck, but also equally from the dining area and from the living area big glass windows. The picture of the lake and mountain view on the webpage is beautiful but the real view is even more breathtaking. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the deck in the morning watching the birds and little ground squirrels feed while drinking our coffee. They certainly provided entertainment and much needed 'nature therapy' for our busy and stressful life. Our favorite view, however, was at night when the full moon was displayed over the lake glistening on the water. As we left, our only regret was that we had not made our reservations to stay longer. We consider ourselves very blessed to have found such a beautiful place to celebrate our 7th Anniversary. We will always have beautiful memories of our stay in the Barbers' Cabin on Vallecito Lake. A charming cabin with a convenient location to pretty much anything you would need. My favorite part was getting up in the morning & having my coffee overlooking that awesome view of the lake. The evenings in front of the fireplace were great as well. The cabin is clean, well stocked & nestled in a quiet area. In the evenings you can watch the deer come down the mountain just opposite the driveway. There is so much to do there. Really enjoyed our stay & looking forward to another visit. It's a great place to unwind. Scott & Laurie
