Welcome to PARADISE. Whether you're looking for a romantic hideaway or memorable vacation spot, Harbor Island is the best kept secret on the East Coast. We are a private gated community, offering 24 hour security, on a private 2-1/2 mile beach. Harbor Island is a 2,400 acre barrier island on the Atlantic sea coast and is located 12 miles east of "beautiful" Beaufort-by-the-sea. Our "casually elegant" condo is located on the third (top) floor of Harbor Beach House Villas, the only building in the resort with the convenience of an elevator, and is within walking distance of two ocean-side pools designated for condo owners and their guests.
Tropically furnished and enjoying a penthouse view, the living area includes a pull-out queen size sofa bed, cable television with VCR/DVD, and eating area off the screened porch with vast views of the beach and Atlantic Ocean. The recently renovated kitchen is completely furnished to make your stay effortless. The bedroom includes a "memory foam" queen size bed. All linens and towels are furnished. For your convenience, we also provide beach towels, beach chairs (3 sit low and 4 sit high), two beach umbrellas, cooler, sunscreen and bug spray, beach bag, COMPLIMENTARY MAID SERVICE at the end of your stay, FREE GATE PASS, and we pay the 11% occupancy tax assessed by Beaufort County (a combined savings of over $100). Two complimentary commercial-sized washers and dryers are located on each floor for your convenience.
We live on Harbor Island full-time and feel blessed to call this piece of paradise home. We purchased our condo 2-1/2 years ago to live in while in built our retirement home on the island. This is our first year renting, so everything is still "fresh". The condo has been updated with bright colors, new furniture, kitchen appliances, local art, etc. Please feel free to give us a call if we can answer questions about the island, beautiful Beaufort-by-the-sea, local merchants, "must see" sites of interest, etc.
Located across the street at the Harbor Island Beach and Racquet Club is an olympic size and "kiddie" pool, playground, volleyball facilities, and state-of-the-art fitness center---all overlooking the marshes of the Harbor River. Horseshoes, tennis and basketball courts, shuffleboard as well as a putting green and crab dock, are available for your enjoyment. Bicycle rental is available at Barefoot Bubba's with free delivery.
You will enjoy beautiful sunrises (from the screened porch) and sunsets (from the front balcony). It is shrimp season, so you will see the shrimp boats from early morning to late afternoon. Sometimes they appear so close to the shoreline you feel like you can reach out and touch them...and the dolphins are fun to watch as they frolic behind the boats. It is loggerhead turtle season, so no flashlights after dark on the beach. The white herons flock in around sunset to nest in the rookeries at night. They sometimes carry on quite a ruckus---this is their mating season. Bunnies are abundant and can be seen early in the morning and late in the afternoon snacking on island vegetation. We also have alligators in the freshwater and brackish lagoons. They are interesting to watch, but it is a federal offense to feed or disturb them. We leave them alone and they reciprocate. Occasionally a doe or buck will swim over from Hunting Island to feed on our flowers...so don't be surprised if you see a deer roaming around just before dusk.
Lagoon kayaking is available at nearby Hunting Island State Park where self-guided tours of the Hunting Island lighthouse (listed in the National Registry of Historic Places) are also available (park admission fee applies). "Beautiful" Beaufort-by-the-sea offers historic district walking tours, local art, exceptional dining experiences, antiques, etc. Traveling 45 minutes to Hilton Head, one and one-half hours to historical Charleston, or one hour to charming Savannah, Georgia also rate highly among visitors to our coastal paradise. Visit local shrimp docks, grill in the courtyard, or visit one of the many outstanding local restaurants. Endless water sports and outstanding fishing, whether on your own or by guide, are available at your fingertips. |
