A country with in a country

Date of Stay: 03/31/12 Review Submitted: 04/11/12

This was our second time going to Aruba and the second time that we stayed at this wonderful place. I submitted a review last year titled Aruba Disney....NOT! The house without question is a wonderful place to stay. It is a home away from home. It has everything that you want. The place is clean and well kept. I wish I could call it my own which I did for a week. Steve and Debbie are easy to get in touch with if there is a problem. Debbie even left a voice mail on the home phone making sure everything was OK. The place sleeps 8 very easy. We had 4 adults and 4 kids. The boys slept in the main living area on a day bed and an air mattress. Adults and the girls each had a bed room. Enough about the house, If you have never been to Aruba, you need to go. Not only do you need to go but you need to stay away from the High rises and low rises and experience the true Aruba. One of the couples mentioned to me when we went up to the tourist section that this place really is two countries in itself. The north end (tourist) has all that traffic, expensive restaurants and just to Americanized. Go to Florida if you want this. Now if you want to see what Aruba is like and experience the people that live in Aruba, this is the place to stay. If this house is not located then somewhere near. There are great restaurants at reasonable prices in Savaneta. Just south of the house, you need to check out Zeerovers. Our group ate all the fish, shrimp, fries, bananas for $70 and beers were $2 each. Also in Savaneta there is La Granja. We bought two whole chickens for $20. They also have huge portions of side items. Further south in San Nicolas heading to baby beach we found a bakery next to the polis station that is open till Noon. Wife and I were the only locals there. I bought breakfast items for $12 for the eight of us. And finally the best place to eat on that side of the island. Costa Riba by far was great. I had curry duck on Wed and Read Snapper on Friday. The snapper was only $20. Most people think Aruba is too expensive. Don't get me wrong, flying a family of 4 down there is the biggest $$$$. But once you get there, rent a house eat at the local establishment, enjoy the free beaches and soak up the culture. Steve and Debbie, you have a great place, we cannot make it in 2013 but we are shooting for 2014. We will be staying at your place. Thanks for sharing your house and a little piece of Aruba with us.

We just returned from our 4th visit to this beautiful beach home. Debbie and Steve are so wonderful to work with and the house is just perfect for us and the other 2 couples we travel with. Whether we are staying in and relaxing, enjoying the gorgeous beach in front of the home or exploring the rest of the beautiful island this place is perfect. We are already planning our return visit!

OPEN THE GATE TO PARADISE

Guest: pat (forest hill, md.)
Date of Stay: 01/14/12 Review Submitted: 02/04/12

Pinch yourself! You have arrived at one of the most relaxing spots on the island of Aruba. Pull up a chair, prop up your barefeet, sip a pina colada, balashi, wine or iced tea on your front porch as you watch the sun set each evening. This home is so comfortable, ideally laid out and clean as a pin. In the morning, you can sit on the front porch and watch the two Iguanas (George and Ringo) sunning in the cactus. Everything you need to hop across the street to your beach is provided (chairs, wade shoes, snorkel equipment, boogy board). The neighborhood is quiet and friendly. There is a grocery store one block away, Marina Pirata resturant with dining on the deck is 5 mins. away. You will need a car or some mode of transportation to get into town for the night time fun and casino action. This was our second time to stay here and we have reserved for 2013. This is a great location for families with young children wanting to play in the sand, collect sea shells and wade in the water. Mangel Halto (beach across the street) is virtually yours during the week. The kitchen is fully equipped and you have a washer and dryer. It is difficult to list all the great resturants there are so many. Places worth trying: Salt & Pepper, Wacky Wahoo, Driftwood, Buccaneer, Fishes & More. NO MATTER WHAT YOU MUST TRY THE FISH EVERYWHERE. The fish is caught each morning, the resturants prepare it each afternoon and evening. Disappointing resturant: Old Man and the Sea-breath taking view of the Caribbean, beautiful setting, very elegant but poor service and after sunset too dark to see your dinner. If you are truly looking to relax with no agenda then open the gate to paradise.

Right in the Middle

Guest: Diver (VA)
Date of Stay: 10/21/11 Review Submitted: 10/31/11

This house is right in the middle if the island, which is perfect. It is away from the high rise area and most of the traffic. There is alot of space in the house. The location, which is right across the street from the beach, is perfect. We spent most of out time sitting in the water and enjoying the sun, the blue water and sunshine. Every morning I enjoyed coffee while looking at the sea. The is a healthly group of locals that come every morning to do the same. It is really nice to see the families at sunset enjoying the water and each other. The island has something for everyone. We love the wide places, which are found on the far north and south ends of the island. Baby beach is over rated better snorkeling right out front. Our biggest complaint about Aruba is the traffic, oh well. If you want a great house with a quite area and great beach and veiw this is the house.

Piece of Paradise

Date of Stay: 07/31/11 Review Submitted: 08/11/11

I just returned home from a week at this beautiful place with my boyfriend, daughter, son-in-law and teenage granddaughters (17 and 19) and we had a great time! The house is wonderful for a group our size. The bedrooms are good size, the beds very comfortable, and the common areas fantastic! And anything you might need is right there--fins, snorkels, masks, water shoes, towels, rafts, coolers--they have thought of everything! We were a little concerned about the beach being across the street (hoping it wasn't a major highway), but it's a small street and easy to cross. And the view from the front porch is gorgeous! If you arrive on a Sunday s we did, know that you won't be able to go to the grocery store because pretty much everything is closed. So I'd recommend arriving on Saturday. We used the grill a lot and it was great. Also, I would recommend a car--there's so much to see on the island! All in all, a fantastic time. Wish we were still there!

Steve and Deb's Beach House

Guest: PK (Belcamp, MD)
Date of Stay: 06/30/11 Review Submitted: 07/16/11

My wife and I and another couple stayed at Steve and Deb’s Aruba beach house for a week. The house is very convenient for a large group of people because there are three bedrooms, three bathrooms and several couches. Steve and Deb’s house includes snorkel gear, water shoes, beach chairs, coolers, fully supplied kitchen and many other amenities. The house is located next to the best snorkel spot on the island the Mangel Halto Beach/Reef. Marana Pirata is a really good restaurant to walk to, and there is a convenience store located several blocks behind the house. However, to experience most of Aruba’s restaurants and beaches you will need to rent a car or taxi or take a bus. We enjoyed being off the beaten path and recommend this beach house for anybody who would enjoy a unique experience as opposed to staying in the high rise area.

Aruba Disney..It is not

Guest: scubachuck (Gainesville, GA)
Date of Stay: 04/02/11 Review Submitted: 04/19/11

If you want to fly to another country and stay in American style hotel/condo/resort and eat American fast food then this is NOT the place. If you are looking for the way Aruba was before the high rise and low rise hotel were there; then this is the place. You are dropped in the middle where the locals are. This place rocks!!!! You are directly across from a lagoon and the best kept secret beach on the island. Local dive operators come out to the place daily to take students and divers. I did not scuba dive but I will next time but we snorkel 3 hours a day and love it. You drop in at the beach and the current will take you down 300 to 400 yards and you can get out at a set of steps and walk back and do it all over. This is your back yard if you stay at the place. The house has everything you need. We had 4 adults and 4 kids and we never felt like we were crowded. The place has 3 bedrooms. The beds sleep great. The kitchen was stocked with everything you needed. The air condition works in all 3 rooms and living room. The place had mask, fins and snorkel to play in your own private lagoon;)). When we were not in the water, the adults stayed out front on the porch. One of the best views in Aruba and I had it for a week. We had breakfast and lunch out there every day we were at home. The view is beautiful. The water is so blue. My wife wants jewelry that color blue/green now. Just to remind her of the place. Remember if you are looking for a Aruba Disney....This place is not for you. But if you want to experience Aruba the way it should be, I would try this place. Live a little and experience a lot!!!!

The real Aruba

Guest: Eddie (New York City)
Date of Stay: 03/04/11 Review Submitted: 07/11/11

This was the perfect choice for me and my family. At first I thought that living in a neighborhood with barking dogs and crowing roosters was going to be a negative, but it turned out to be a really positive part of our experience. By the end we felt like natives and proudly flew the Aruban flag on our car for flag day. You'll want to rent a car but it's so easy to get around Aruba. We went to every beach and every great restaurant. But the snorkeling right across the street is the best! Besides a zillion fish and a huge variety of coral we got to see a giant barracuda and an octopus protecting its lunch. The house had everything we needed. Would highly recommend it for folks who, like us, prefer and authentic experience rather than just some resort.

Only place to stay in Aruba!!

Date of Stay: 02/02/11 Review Submitted: 02/15/11

We can not say enough good about this home and location. Three couples stayed all week and never felt crowded at all. We spent everyday walking to the beach to layout, snorkel, nap, etc. etc. This is like having your own private beach every day of the week. The snorkeling is amazing. We drove to Baby Beach just to check it out, and althogh it is worth the drive for sightseeing, if you want a snorkeling private beach you have it at GetAwayAruba!! This home provides you with all you need. Snorkeling gear in all sizes, plenty of beach towels, pull-behind insulated cooler and chairs for the beach, sun hats and not to mention all the items within the house itself. Very comfortable and affordable. The front patio view is amazing. Many hours were spent outside just sitting and watching the water. We will never do an all-inclusive again. Every night we would head downtown or to the high rise area and check out new restaurants and usually end up at the Crystal Casino. Everywhere we went was clean and safe and a great time. Would recommend this home to anyone wanting to relax and vacation at your own leisure. We will definetly be back!! Thank you Steve & Debbie!!!

PARADISE PACKAGE

Guest: pat (forest hill, md.)
Date of Stay: 01/16/11 Review Submitted: 02/02/11

If you are looking to relax and have nothing but beauty surround you, this is your place. Magnificant sunrises and sunsets over the Carribean Sea right from your front porch. A beach, a deck right across the street for wading, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking. The home has large comfortable rooms, a fully functioning kitchen, large dining area, washer, dryer and even a clothes line. The drinking water in Aruba is one of the purest in the world, no need to buy bottled water. If you must buy water, get AWA. It is wise to rent a car, there is so much to see, so many beaches to visit. There is a grocery store and resturants are nearby. The local people are very friendly. Take a drive into town to the High Rise area, plenty of casinos and happy hours. Have the frozen drinks; pina colada, brown ladies, etc. Balashi, the local beer, is also very good. If you love to dine out, you are in for a treat! There are so many really good resturants with seating overlooking the water. Make a reservation or get there early enough to watch the sunset. PLEASE try the fish, you won't find any better than in Aruba. The grouper, wahoo and barracuda are delicious. You can let go of your paranoia that someone is going to harm you and just relax. ARUBA IS PARADISE and this home completes the package.

Fantastic House with beautiful view and amenities

Guest: Tonya (Minnesota)
Date of Stay: 01/09/11 Review Submitted: 02/10/11

This house is everything it was promised to be. We had a group of 6 adults (3 couples) and we all enjoyed the house. It was very comfortable and provided adequate privacy for us all. The bedrooms were all clean and comfortable. We spent most of our time on the front deck with an amazing view of the ocean and comfy table and chairs. The kitchen was very clean and everything was is good working order. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of water (the island has a desalination plant) and the fridge has the ice and water dispenser. Although we had trouble with the wi-fi on our personal devices, the house has a computer we were able to use and get all of the information we needed. The location of the house worked well for us, we loved the snorkling right across the street, the scuttled boat off our front door was a popular attraction for many snorklers. If I get the chance to get back to Aruba I would definitely stay here again.

ABSOLUTELY AN INCREDIBLE VACATION

Guest: Amy (Forest Hill)
Date of Stay: 09/25/10 Review Submitted: 03/05/11

Where to begin. The house is absolutely gorgeous and whatever you may have needed- it was there. It is such a cozy house with a perfect location. You feel like you have stepped into your own house- books, movies, every appliance you can think of- you name it- it is in the house.- Steve and Deb thought of everything. It is right across from a beach and the snorkeling there is pretty good for shallow water. I consider the vacation with eight other women staying at this house my privilege. Aruba is absolutely gorgeous- quaint and plenty of beautiful beaches and fish. We considered everything just moments away since the island is so small. Baby Beach was my favorite- I saw a fishas big asmy head and torso- I felt my eyes get as big as silver dollars and my heart palpatating until I realized- okay he is a fish- enjoy the beauty and wonder- and I did. I could have snorkeled all day every day but compromises are to be made when there are 9 of you. We took a tour which went to several places and the Natural Pool is one of the most incredible things you could ever imagine- it was majestic. Our guide was a gem- sense of humor, very knowledgeable and hey if you can hang with 9 women- you have to be pretty good. "Downtown" is far from what we here call downtown. It too is small and quaint with places to shop and eat. The hotel district also has some great places to eat- I avoided the chain restaurants and went with local places and was never disappointed. We had three girls who stayed only 4 days and theydid NOT want to leave. Six of us have already put in for our vacation for the same week which was the last week in September- three did it when they got back and I did it on Jan 3. We cannot wait- when we see each other it is all we can talk about- what we did and what we wanto to do. Our motto was: "What Happens in Aruba Stays in Aruba" For the life of me I cannot remember the local beer they make in Aruba but my girls sucked it down like water- they thoroughly enjoyed it. The brewery is not far - nothing is really far when you are talking about a small island. We hated to see the week end and we were sad to leave but we all knew we would be coming back and now we know the lay of land- WATCH OUT ARUBA- A MAGNIFICENT SANCTUARY- whether you are out and about or at the gorgeous home of Steve and Deb's. I thank you for the opportunity to stay at your place and cannot wait until the end of September this year. VIVA ARUBA VIVA ARUBA VIVA ARUBA

Just got back from an all-girls week at Deb and Steve's place. The house and location were incredible with awesome views, spectacular sunsets and all the amenties anyone could possibly need. I particularly loved the double head shower. There were more than enough clean towels and linens, and the toiletry samples were a lovely added touch. I loved being off the beated track but close enough to drive easily to the restaurants, shops and beaches. Local fisherman fish right in front of the house, and we enjoyed talking to them and learning more about the island. Highly recommend the ABC tour to include the Natural Pool. It was a fantastic week, one I will never forget, and hopefully will have the opportunity to visit again.

We stayed in this house the first week of August. Awesome view and location!!! Away from tourists, near the locals (which we enjoyed). The house was very nice and comfy. Very thankful for the washer and dryer. Also, the air conditioner ;). We loved sitting out front enjoying our evening hanging out with each other. There were 4 adults and 2 kids so the house was perfect for us in size. The owners are great and very accomodating. It was very awesome to have access to the lagoon right across the street where you could enjoy wonderful snorkeling. Also, you get your own private cabana area. Very nice! We would definitely stay in the house again. Thanks so much to Steve & Debbie!

On The Best Beach

Guest: Coach (Phoenix, Az, USA)
Date of Stay: 05/21/10 Review Submitted: 06/18/11

We usually travel to more rural islands but decided to give Aruba a try and we are glad we did! The house is located on what we decided was the best beach on Aruba. We went to Arashi and Baby Beach and the others (we were there for a 2 week stay) and we definitely like Mangel Halto the best. It was some of the best snorkeling we have had on the 17 different islands we have been to. The house is located away from the big strip hotels and casino but close enough to drive and the island has great grocery stores that rival the States. We did eat out three times but wished we would have gone to Marina Pirata all three times as the setting was unbeatable, the prices were great, and just a short walk from the house. The house was very functional with WI-Fi and all the amenities plus air conditioning which we used very little as there was a nice breeze off the ocean. The iguana's and the Tropicals (type of Oriole) on the cactus out the front door gave us lots of entertainment in the mornings as we drank our coffee on the front porch and said Hi to the neighbors as many did their morning walk. I also found a nice local tennis club where I played several times and the guys were friendly and accepted me into their morning games. A very pleasant stay and lots to do on the island if you are into doing lots of things or you can just lie in the ocean in front of the house!

A quiet stay with a lovely view

Date of Stay: 05/09/10 Review Submitted: 05/17/10

If you want a fancy hotel where all your needs are provided for, where you can go out clubbing at night and walk to high-end shopping, this is not for you. If, however, you want a quiet place away from the spring break scene, where you can drink your coffee in a hammock and watch the ocean from your front porch, walk through mangrove trees to a secluded beach, and have a quiet nap in a comfortable home with all the amenities, then this is the one you want. If you'd rather grill your own fresh fish instead of eat a hotel buffet, then this is the one you want. If you'd rather sit with friends around the dinner table at sunset than go to a tourist restaurant with all the ocean liner passengers, then this is the one you want. The house is well-equipped by generous owners and is very comfortable. If you want have a nice place to spend your time and take care of your own needs (there are a few restaurants), then this is a great option. If you don't want to be far from the restaurants, etc., then there are plenty of resorts to choose from.

We just returned from 8 nights at 43 Spaans Lagoenweg. All of the other positive reviews are 100% correct. Debbie and Steve have done a fantastic job creating the perfect vacation destination. Our number one criteria for finding a rental was location to the water, and this place was on the best beach on the island. We visited a few others, to determine that we loved ours the best. We snorkeled with the equipment provided and saw many varieties of sea life in the beautiful lagoon. The house has copies of many guidebooks, and the information Debbie and Steve have compiled is a great help as well. There were many added bonuses we didn't expect, such as the most genious invention ever - the thermos that attaches directly to the blender so you can make your frozen blender drinks and keep them cold. The house is spacious, comfortable and beautiful. Truely a home away from home.

The comments left by the resident 2/10/10 are a perfect description of the experience we had during our stay 2/14/10-2/20/10. We found that the location was perfect, just a few minutes from the city and a great un-crowded snorkel location right out the door. The local people really are very friendly, EVERYONE we met was genuinely interested in how we liked Aruba and wished us well in our vacation and travel home. We went fishing 3 days with a local man named Victor who is absolutely awesome. Flying Fishbone is fabulous restaurant with great atmosphere and service not to mention incredible food! Take your wallet, it is pricy but well worth the "night out" (hard to find and only open in the evening, still, worth the effort). Try B55 for good selection, large quantity, tasty food and moderate price. Good luck Steve and Debbie, you have an awesome place in the sun!

This is the place to stay if you want to be away from the crowds and clamor of Oranjistad and the hotel/casino/timeshare districts at the northwest end of the island. Debbie and Steve's home is located directly across the street from an out-of-the way state beach called Mangel Halto, known locally as one of the finest snorkeling/scuba diving beaches on the island. The beach is a quiet tangle of white sand surrounded by mangroves. It was never crowded during our stay, so there was no trouble finding a vacant sun shelter. The lagoon itself is a million shades of blue and aquamarine, with stunning coral and sea life just a hundred yards offshore. The house itself is spacious and nicely equipped with just about everything you will need for cooking, beachgoing, and just relaxing, inside the clerestory-lit great room or out on the front porch. The three bedrooms, each with its own bath, easily accommodate a party of eight or nine without any sense of crowding. It is fully equipped with a digital TV (we watched the Super Bowl here), stereo system and fast wireless internet hookup. Four air conditioners kept each zone at just the right temperature, and an instantaneous gas-fired hot water system assured an endless supply of hot water for dish washing and showering. The yard is full of indigenous plants and animals, including several varieties of cactus, palm and other trees, and several resident iguanas, lizards and bananaquit birds. The security system and safe for valuables provided a sense of real security at all times. The central location of Spaans Lagoon, just three miles south of the airport, makes it easy to reach Oranjistad, the hotel district and the beaches at the southern tip of the island. We really liked Baby Beach for the calm, warm waters – great for kids -- and the superb snorkeling once you get past the breakwater. Arashi Beach at the northwest end of the island had the biggest expanse of sand we encountered. We have rented houses in other tropical places, and this one was easily as well equipped and amenable as the best of them. I heartily recommend it to anyone who prefers a quiet setting with few tourists to the raucous and bustling hotels and casinos of the northern corner of Aruba. For us it was the best of both worlds, as you can reach any part of the island in under 30 minutes.

Despite the blizzard that greeted us upon our recent return from Aruba, our memories are keeping us (relatively) warm. This rental home has earned a rave review. Debbie and Steve clearly care about their home and guests and they have done everything possible to ensure a good experience. The house is spacious, clean, comfortable, well- maintained, and wonderfully equipped with all sorts of convenient and useful extras. The beach is just steps away and very user-friendly. After a couple of excursions to traffic-clogged Oranjestad, we were happy to escape the crowds and commercialism and remain close to home. We highly recommend the food and service at Amazing! and Old Man and the Sea in San Nicolas. Also suggest your drive along the rugged north coast and see the cave paintings in the National Park.

Wow! We just returned from a week at Getawayaruba. Three couples were very comfortable in the house. The neighborhood was safe and easy to get around. The front porch was perfect for morning coffee and sunset drinks/dinner. The house was so well equipped with everything needed for cooking and enjoying the beach. Even a cell phone and computer to contact home were available. We enjoyed the island jeep tour with ABC tours, the Jolly Pirate snorkel trip, baby beach, and the almost private beach across the street. We ate at the Flying Fishbone, Texas de Brazil, and Marina Pirata but then found Benchi's fish market and had the freshest fish right at home on the patio for a fraction of the price. We are already planning to return. After visiting Palm Beach and the high-rise area, we all said that Getawayaruba was so much nicer! Couldn't have asked for anything better for our family vacation than this wonderful location. The house is fabulous, but the beach across the road is beyond words. The kids, who are 12 and 8, practically lived with snorkel gear on (graciously provided by Deb & Steve along with all kinds of other beach gear)! The calm, shallow beach waters were perfect for our 5 yr old to play. We drove by the Palm and Eagle beaches over in the high rise area, and while the beaches were beautiful, I would never trade them for the quiet, almost private, beach across the street. We almost always had the beach entirely to ourselves! It was truly a home away from home. It also provides a great view of the true Arubans and their way of life since it is out of the commercialized hotel/casino area. I would definitely stay in this exact place again and would recommend it to anyone.

I researched different places before booking our rental in Aruba. This getawayaruba home far exceeded our expectations! The home is in an excellent location; quiet, beautiful beach and water just across the road, and the sunsets each night from the front patio are just fabulous! Debbie & Steve have furnished their home with everything anyone could ever want or need for the perfect vacation. We swam and snorkeled "out front" and also by having a rental car, we were able to snorkel beaches along the West coast as well. We wanted to eat the local flavor of Aruba, so our favorites were Marina Pirata, Maranda, Pincho's Grill & Bar, and Nos Cunucu. You can't go wrong renting this beautiful home! We definitely would go back.

How many different ways can you say "PARADISE"!!!!How many of us have looked at vacation brochures and websites and seen wonderful looking vacation spots; only to get there and wonder what camera took those pictures? Well I'm here to tell you that there is not one picture on this website that I have not personally seen through my own eyes. Every time I looked out the front window in the morning, slid open those patio doors to expose the whole front of the house, to the beautiful view, it took my breath away. A calm breeze was always present but I would never describe it as windy like the other end of the island can be.The place is very roomy and I never once felt like we were on top of each other. What a treat for everyone to have their own room and full bath. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset each and every night from our very own "Happy Hour" location, right on the front porch. The one exception was the one we enjoyed after a short walk to the end of the street for dinner at wonderful small restaurant right on the water. Every day was spent sitting, on what we thought, was our own private beach. We snorkeled, read, had a few cocktails and then repeated...Because I'm limited to "up to 3000 characters" I won't be able to tell you all that I experienced, but I do not hesitate to say it is impossible for you to be disappointed when you stay at this property. Make sure you arrange to have dinner at the "Flying Fishbone" and "The Driftwood".This is definitely is a do over and over and over again location. I can’t wait to return.

WOW! What a place! There was not a bad beach or restaurant on the island. Baby Beach & Arashi were great for snorkeling(along with "right out front"). The Flying Fishbone, Marina Pirata, & B55 to name a few were our picks for eating. All were great. From the Rocky North Shore to the Beaches, it will be a place to come back to.......

What a great place, both the house & the island. This was our 1st visit here & all agreed we would come back. B55 was a great "find" to eat. Great snorkeling right out the front door. We'll look forward to our next trip back.

Everything is wonderful! Your place is lovely and the location is incredible. We spent the day touring the island and getting acquainted. Mali was very helpful and very sweet. Thank you for all the great information, especially the three ring notebook. We have found it invaluable - and it's only Sunday. Looking forward to a wonderful time. Thank you!!

Had a great time in Aruba. A month is perfect. We enjoyed the view and the beautiful sunsets. The back of the island is a must to see. It is so different "wild" back there. Loved the caves, goats and wild donkeys. Best places to eat!! Old Man and the Sea - ask for Rachel. Mirandi - ask for Luke DeliFrance and Pancake House

We stayed there for a week in the middle of October. Probably one of the best locations on the island with the ocean next door in a nice, quiet neighbourhood. The house was new, it had a lot of room and was overall comfortable and had everything needed. From the living room you have the nicest view to the ocean. The day after arriving on the island, the island was hit by the start of a hurricane and the infrastructure was shut down over most of the island. Luckily there were a couple of stores next door, we could get groceries and with the fully equipped kitchen we had no problem surviving until the roads dried up and the restaurants opened. Unfortunately the hurricane did some damage to the neighbourhood and kind of trashed the local beach and water a bit. The last day we were there the water had cleared up enough so we could enjoy the turquoise waters of Aruba.

Last spring I was looking for a place for a family vacation for the Christmas Holidays. We had never been to Abuba. Having never seen the house we took a shot and rented it. I ended up looking like a genious to our party of seven. The house was clean, recently refurbished and have everything imaginable that you could need. We loved it. Countless house were spent on the front porch reading and relaxing while enjoying the spectacular view. We loved how the house opens up and lets the cooling breeze blow thru. Water access it right across the street for fantastic swimming and snorkeling. Our adult children took the bus down to the "action" several times. My wife and I were happy to just "chill". As far as restaurants go, we ate at Mirana Pitata (we walked there) which was good, the Flying Fishbone which was also good but the BEST by far was the Old Man and the Sea which is right next to the Flying Fishbone. We ate dinner at Cuba's Cookin which was a tourist trap rip off. We were surprized about this as Cuba's Cookin was all over the Fudor's books and books about dining in Aruba. My kids made daily trips to the snack truck down the street which they enjoyed. All in all...excellent vacation. Oh yeah...one more thing...we were there over New Years. The locals go crazy with fireworks. I never saw anything like it in my life. We drove to a high spot on New Years Eve and the whole island was lit up with fireworks for hours. We really enjoyed it.

It was our first time to visit Aruba, except for a brief visit from a cruise ship. Our friends traveled to Aruba with us and we shared your beautiful home for a week. You have thought of every possible thing your guests could need and we didn't want for anything. The location of the home is wonderful and what a spectacular view from the front porch! It was so nice to be in a quiet private home and not in a hotel -- we could wake up and make our own breakfast and just sit on the porch to enjoy the wonderful warm temperatures -- it was cold and snowing at home when we were there! We ate at La Granja and Iguana Joe's, which were our favorite places for lunch -- both were very reasonable also. For dinner, we ate at the Flying Bonefish and at Marina Pirata, which was just up the street from the house. Both were wonderful dinner experiences where we dined right by the water. We purchased fresh fish from Benchi, who was selling fresh seafood on the left side of the highway on the way to Savaneta, and it was wonderful! The casino, the butterfly farm, and Baby Beach were some of the places we visited. It was a trip of a lifetime and we certainly hope to go there again. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. Donald and Mildred Blackburn, Churchville, MD 1/09

The best and most relaxing vacation we have ever had. The villa was perfectly located for sight seeing, enjoying the beautiful sunsets from the front porch and snorkeling in the warm and calm lagoon right out the front door. The villa has all the comforts of home, close to the airport, national park, casinos, shopping and very good restaurants. We enjoyed dinning at the Flying Fishbone, Maria Pirata, 5 blocks from the villa, the restaurant at Boca Prins in the national park and the Mooba Beach Bar and Restaurant on Palm Beach at the north end of the island. There is a small grocery store located 1 block from the villa or shop at the Price Smart across from the airport. The Price Smart is similar to Sam's Club. In the mornings we explored the Aruba National Park, Butterfly Farm, California Lighthouse and Oranjestad, where the cruise ships dock and there are numerous jewelry stores and shops. In the afternoons we would swim and snorkel right out the front door, relax on the front porch with our favorite beverage enjoying the warm breeze and view of the beautiful Caribbean Sea. The sunsets over the sea are truly spectacular. While sitting on the front porch,we were entertained by the pelicans diving for fish, iguanas, pege-pega lizards, cousin of the gecko, and the barika geel, a small yellow bellied bird. I enjoyed shopping for souvenirs at the flea market, open Saturday and Sunday only. The market is located a little north of Oranjestad and has excellent prices. My husband liked the cigar shop at the wind mill near the Butterfly Farm. Our rental car was not four wheel drive, but we were able to drive through the national park to the natural bridge, Boca Prins, and along the coast on the west side of the island. We were not able to reach the natural pool in our car. Guided tours , four wheel drive vehicles and horses are available for rent so you can reach all the wild areas of the park. We entered the park in San Nicholas, toward Seroe Colorado to reach Boca Pins. We passed caves to explore, crashing waves on the rocky shore of the windward side of the island, goats and donkeys grazing in the park. The biggest surprise was finding the bar and restaurant at Boca Prins. Across from the restaurant there is a beach accessible by stairs to explore and watch the crashing waves. Baby Beach is located at the south end of the island below San Nicolas. There are tennis courts open to the public and food is available at Baby beach, close to the tennis courts.

This was my first time to Aruba, and what a great trip it was. My main purpose was for scuba diving. The diving was excellent as was the house. It was so nice to have a separate bath room for each bed room, made things very private for each person. The house was so spacious and it felt like home. EVERYTHING you need is there from beach towels and beach bags, to games and reading material. The home is more than equipt for anyone.

Our family of nine was delighted to have vacationed in your lovely island home.We found it very family friendly & comfortable, providing all the necessary items for sleeping, cooking, snorkeling and beach going. The most wonderful thing about your home is the location. To be able to sit on the front porch and see the brilliant blue lagoon and the sun beyond was very peaceful and relaxing. Watching the sunset, then seeing the lights as they moved by was an added relaxation. It was a quiet location where everyone could pop in and out of the water as they wished. Nice neighbors, friendly Arubans, great sight seeing, wonderful, gradual, sloping beaches, and quality restaurants are just a few of the pluses while enjoying your home. Thanks for sharing it with us! Thank you for sharing your piece of "Paradise" with my family. Your 3 bedroom villa has everything a dream vacation needs and more.We really appreciated the beach chairs and snorkeling gear, plus water shoes. Especially since the airline limits you to 1 bag check-in.We have memories that will last a lifetime! Aruba has more to offer than I expected, this was my first trip to Aruba. There is the serenity of sitting on the front porch in the morning with a cup of coffee, while looking out at a breath taking view to gambling the night away downtown! We enjoyed both! Truly there is something for everyone in Aruba. Our group ranged in age from 8-65 and we all had a BLAST! The beach directly across the street from the house has great snorkeling and beautiful teal waters that are a treat to the eyes. The local people are friendly and hospitable. If you are looking for a fishing trip, you can ask for HERBERT at the local store just a 2 minute walk from the house. We ventured out early 1 morning with Herbert to catch a few fish and share fishing stories. Having a rental car is convenient but one night we used a cab from downtown that only cost $20.00. Not a bad price to pay to not have to worry about driving late at night. One place not to be missed just a few minutes from the house was De Palm Island. This is an "All Inclusive" day trip at the beach. Everything from food, drink, snorkeling gear, water park activities are included. During our visit we saw a group of Parrot Fish the largest I've ever seen. Don't forget the underwater camera we did but it's an excuse to go back! Another short drive is Baby Beach. If it's a day at the beach that you enjoy then Baby Beach is a must! This beach has calm waters that can rejuvenate and relax the stress right out of your life. We can't wait to get back to Baby Beach. We had an awesome dinner at Flying Fishbone. Cooking at the house was enjoyable even doing laundry was a pleasure on this trip, the laundry room is conveniently located between the bedrooms and the great room. I also enjoyed walking around the neighborhood looking at trees I've only seen in Hawaii. The locals cut bunches of flowers for me to take back to the house. I just can't say enough about this piece of Paradise! THANK YOU, THANK YOU! for sharing it with us! Planning to get back as soon as possible. Lorrie & family

It was our third stay in Aruba and to us it was the best because of your place and location. We stayed previously in both the Hi-rise and the Lo-rise areas but they were no comparison to your villa. Every morning when we awoke and went outside on the front porch we were in awe of the scenery. The quiet lagoon. The accommodations were very comfortable with large rooms and the 3 bathrooms. Very relaxing and far enough away from the stress of staying down-town.Great place to stay., Thanks for all the nice extras.
