Beautiful location and cabin. Furnishings are great - plenty of towels, all the cookware you need, top-notch gas grill outside and even washer and dryer. The living area is absolutely cozy with lots of places to sit. We enjoyed using the wood stove. Lots of outside gear to use on the lake and enjoy the surroundings. The reason I give 4 stars is one, it's a bit far to Acadia if you want to go to Acadia as much as we did - you will spend about 80 minutes round trip in the car for every trip you make. For urban city folk who are already in the car a lot during the week, this might not be ideal. The other reason was the internet connection was quite weak. We could never get our iPads to recognize that wireless was available. Our one laptop got a poor signal. Would advise that owners think about getting Pine Cone its own router (?) to solve this issue. Other than those two complaints, it's just a fabulous place and I think, a fair price.

Owner response: Sublime, Wow! Thank you. Of course we always want five star ratings. Pine Cone Cabin's location as described in the ad is 35 minutes each way from Acadia. That is one of the reasons it is so quiet and peaceful in North East Cove. I used to manage a store in Southwest Harbor so I drove to MDI every work day. If in the future you would like to rent a home in Lamoine overlooking the mountains of Acadia, Hodgkins' House property # 384013 is available and closer to the island. We are so sorry about the internet problems. Now we know of the problem, we will have that corrected. Thank you for pointing this out to us. We are very happy you enjoyed our cabin on Green Lake.
My family had the opportunity to spend one week at Pine Cone Cabin and it was, hands down, the best vacation we've had. Lucy and Paul are amazing hosts who thought of everything. While we had plans to explore the area before we arrive we soon realized that all we wanted was at the cabin so we hardly left. We went for lovely trail runs on the camp roads, swam, fished, kayaked, canoed, rested on the beach, and hand campfires. My two young sons (5 & 8) got along all week with very minimal bickering - any place that can foster that behavior truly deserves awards! We are very much looking forward to our stay next year.

Owner response: Thanks so much for the high praise. Paul and I enjoyed meeting your family. The boys had a good chance to test their swimming and rowing skills. Maybe next year you might try your hand at sailing the Sunfish. After all their play I bet it didn't take them long to fall asleep nights. You are now booked, at your summer home, Pine Cone Cabin, for your week 2014. Great returning renters are always most welcome. Thank you again for taking such great care of our cabin on Green Lake.
Just what we were looking for!
Just what we were looking for!
Cabin is cozy with room to spread out and all of the amenities one needs to enjoy a relaxing vacation with a soothing rustic feel. Our giant black lab-mix loved swimming in the lake with and without us, neighbors took all of us for a ride in his boat along with his two golden retrievers, and we enjoyed using the cabin's canoe, row boat and paddle boat. The wood stove/fireplace was lovely at night, as well, and movie DVDs on-hand made for fun evenings despite the rain. Scone lady down the road an added plus. The best review we can give is that we have booked for next year.

Owner response: Thanks for the wonderful review. We do our best to have all of our renters have a great Maine vacation by the shores of Green Lake. Thanks also for leaving our cabin as you found it and returning to Pine Cone Cabin next summer.
The Great Escape!
The Great Escape!
My husband and I and our black lab enjoyed this place so much, we rebooked for next year on the spot! The cabin is so cozy, comfortable, clean and nicely furnished. The lake - pristene! Crystal clear water and very quiet with no motorized vehicles frequently passing by. Good sized sandy beach with a dock. I would recommend water shoes for those with sensitive feet because of some gravel at the at the shore and a few feet in the water. Great fishing too! All linens were of excellent quality and the kitchen was nicely stocked with necessary dinnerware, cookware, full-size stove and fridge and microwave and a large gas grill on the porch. Full bath with shower/tub was also great size for a cabin with lots of fluffy, plush towels. Acadia was close by with a 45 minute drive and Bar Harbor even closer. Lots of stops along the way to enjoy a sweat Maine lobstah! There are plenty of food markets in the area - a smaller market close by and larger markets along Route 1A. There is an Ellsworth Farmers Market on Saturdays too which we discovered on our way home. Listen to the loons at night and in the morning, fresh air, and calm cool breezes made us want to stay even longer! The owners, Lucy and Paul were so warm and welcoming and gave us a tour of the lake on their boat. It was a nice way to end our stay! We would highly recommend Pine Cone Cabin whether it be just a couple or a family with children. There is lots of space to spread out and a video library, books and board games. You won't want to stay inside because the beauty of Green Lake can't be missed and the majestic Acadia National Park. For just $20.00 for a pass, you can enjoy the park for 7 days. If you visit Acadia and plan to hike, it would be recommended you purchase a book (at many of the visitor centers) with information about the trails for they vary from easy to highly challenging for the experienced hiker. And on a final note, there is local resident who bakes fresh homemade scones every other day. Look for the signs she puts out when they are available. We stopped several times! We can't wait to come back and vistit Green Lake again for another Great Escape!

Owner response: Thank you so much for your in-depth review. It was a pleasure meeting you both and Hooper. You have joined our "A" team of renters. Pine Cone Cabin was left in excellent condition, thank you. We have been blessed with having two of the nicest cabins in North East Cove and our treasured list of top secret "A" team renters has made our summer so much easier. Your tips on Acadia passes and Julia's yummy scones have been mentioned in most of our reviews since she began selling them. Paul & I have added another rental this year, Hodgkins' House in Lamoine, also listed on Home Away. Please spread the word to all your great renter friends. It is about twenty minutes closer to Acadia and is a lovely home with ocean views of Eastern Bay and beautiful large lawns to play and relax. Now that we are a retired couple. We are remodeling our home Hodge Podge Lodge, with the same attention to detail as our other two, for rental in 2013, that should keep us off the couch this winter. Up dates for Pine Cone Cabin 2013 will be a heating system. Hopefully that will extend the season from May-October, for all the hikers, bikers and kayakers. You mentioned how quiet it was, well you should be here in June and September, at times you might be the only people in the cove. The fish, loons, ducks, eagles, asprey, deer, moose, bear and other creatures great and small have made this peaceful place their home. Paul & I will welcome you back, for your Great Escape in August!
This lovely cabin is even better in person. You have to see it to believe it--just so charming and perfectly decorated. Lucy and Paul were the most amazing hosts--there to greet us shortly after we arrived. The cabin is clean, neat and well equipped from cookware and dishes to cleaning supplies and linens. There were 3 kayaks, a paddleboat, canoe, and Sunfish sail boat. We used them all! This cabin has a peaceful waterfront location with a pebble walk-in beach great for kids and adults alike, and the water is SO clean! Our kids also loved the new raft just a short swim from the water's edge. It was a 15 minute drive to Ellsworth and about 45 minutes to an hour to the Acadia/Bar Harbor area. Altough we took a few trips away from the cabin, we chose to spend most of our vacation on the lake--swimming, kayaking and fishing. We grilled most of our meals and ate outside often. Lots of s'mores were cooked on the fire pit down by the water's edge. We were pleasantly surprised by how quiet the lake is--safe enough for our kids to paddle around in the water near the cabin and also quiet at nighttime when we were ready to settle down to sleep (aside from the lovely sounds of the loons,of course)! FYI--Our 3 kids were 5, 7 and 9 at the time of the trip and loved the loft sleeping areas but I wouldn't recommend the cabin for families with children under 4 or for kids that wake in the middle of the night.

Owner response: Thank you for posting the wonderful review. Someone has already voted it as helpful. Pine Cone Cabin has had a history of great renters that have taken great care with our cabin on Green Lake. They are always welcomed to come back to North East Cove. I grew up with long summer days on Green Lake, so have our children and now our grandchildren. Paul and I have enjoyed, over the past four years since we began renting, meeting families from around the world having fun at Pine Cone Cabin. Kids catching their first fish, climbing the loft ladders or learning to kayak. We hope your memories last a life time but if not come back to Pine Cone Cabin anytime.
My wife and I stayed at Pine Cone Cabin in June 2012 with our 7-year-old son and 2 dogs. We have visited Maine as a family, at spots all down the coast, more than a dozen times, and have never stayed in the same place twice. That will change the next time we go to Maine, because we're coming back here. The owners really make the place welcoming, and they're nearby and helpful if you need them. It feels like home, if your home happens to have a beautiful cove in the backyard with a dock and kayaks. My wife kayaked around Fish Island once, and she and my son fished off the dock quite a bit (not much luck, but still fun). It was a cool week, but the fireplace was easy to use at night; we just restocked the firewood we used from the piles out back. The property is a 5-minute drive on dirt roads from the nearest paved road, so it's really secluded and quiet; the dogs were able to wander around outside without getting in anyone's way. And there's a family a couple of miles away on the dirt roads who bake fresh scones a few times a week and leave them out with an honor jar, and OH MY GOD ARE THEY GOOD. I told Lucy I wish the place was a little closer to Acadia, where we went to hike every day (we LOVE Acadia); it's about a 40-minute drive from the cabin. But I don't think that will stop us from returning, because everything else was perfect.

Owner response: Thank you for the glowing review. Sorry it's taken me this long to say thank you. Pine Cone Cabin is not our only rental. Perhaps another time you might like to try our home, Hodgkins House in Lamoine. It's about twenty minutes closer to Acadia and over looks Eastern Bay. It is also a weekly rental.
A dream come true
A dream come true
We are a couple from Israel with 2 girls 10, 14. We spent excellent week in the cabin. The place was perfect in every respect, Beauty, convenience, hospitality. Paul and Lucy are wonderful People and we felt at home. The cabin is spacy and indulging, and gentle touch of Lucy and Paul is everywhere.Just step in and relax-everything you need is here. The beach is steps away, and for Boat lovers-you have it all - Canooe, Kayaks and even Pedal boat. At night we sat near the fire and listened to the cry of the loons and voices of the wood. We already want to come back for another week!

Owner response: Hi Ilan, We enjoyed meeting your lovely family. It's always nice to hear good things about Pine Cone Cabin. We have already rented 5 weeks for next summer. Don't wait too long if your thinking of returning to Green Lake in 2012. Paul and I would love to welcome you again to our little cabin in the Maine woods. Great renters that take good care of our cabin are prized. Thanks Again, Lucy
You know how scary it is to buy something sight unseen? We were a little apprehensive about renting a vacation home on line, but boy were we happy we did. Lucy and Paul's Pine Cone Cabin on Green Lake is a wonderful place. So cozy, clean and beautifully decorated. We traveled from Maryland with our daughter and met up with our son and his girlfriend, who live in Vermont. When we arrived at the cabin, we were met by Lucy and Paul who had just lit the wood-stove to welcome us. The cabin and the property were gorgeous and have everything that you could ask for. The linens and dishes from L.L. Bean fit the atmosphere perfectly and the kayaks, canoe, paddle boat and fishing gear provided all the entertainment we could ask for. Being only 30-40 minutes away from Bar Harbor and Acadia Nat. Park were a bonus. Having our own little retreat in the woods made us feel less like tourists and more like neighbors. We hope to have many more vacations at the cozy cabin for many years to come. Thank you Lucy and Paul!

Owner response: Paul & I are so pleased you enjoyed our little cabin on Green Lake. Your kind words are much appreciated. Pine Cone Cabin is a great place to spend quality family time. Bob and Sue, you are always welcome to return to our Maine woods. Just don't wait too long as we are beginning to book for 2012. Thank you for taking such good care of Pine Cone and for the photos. My photography skills are limited as you see when you look at the on-line pictures compared to the real Pine Cone Cabin. We just bought a new 8'x10' float with reclining seats and ladder to add more space for summer fun. Thanks Again, Lucy
Terrific Maine Experience!
Terrific Maine Experience!
We just wanted to say what a terrific place Pine Cone Cabin is. We were hoping to find a cabin on a lake that was within driving distance to Acadia... to be able to enjoy outdoor activities (kayaking, hiking, swimming) while also finding a quiet place to relax. Well- we found it and so much more! It’s obvious that Lucy and Paul take very good care of the cabin and the personal touches they add to your stay take the whole experience over the top. It seemed like we were visiting old friends, not renting from someone we just met! Green Lake is one of those places you can only dream of finding…tranquil, beautiful, and just plain fun! The private beach was our favorite- we sat out almost every night to watch the sunset and roast marshmallows. The water was crystal clear and the perfect temperature for a swim! We spent a few days at Acadia, which is an easy drive from the cabin. As well as checked out the Ellsworth farmer’s markets to pick up some fresh veggies to grill on the awesome grill that Lucy and Paul have at Pine Cone. We grilled out every night- rain or shine! Everything about the trip was perfect. We often rent vacation homes this way- but Pine Cone was above and beyond all expectations. Thanks to Lucy and Paul for making our 2010 summer vacation an all-time favorite.

Everything you could want!
Everything you could want!
We stayed at Pine Cone Cabin the last week of June. Lucy and Paul were most gracious and took great care to make sure we had everything we needed to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Although the weather was delightful it was a little early in the season so we didn’t go swimming, with the exception of the dog, but we did enjoy use of the canoe and kayaks that are provided. The lake is so peaceful and it was great to have our own beach and dock to hang out at. We would love to come back during the warmer months and splash around in the lake with all the cool tubes and inflatables that were provided as well. Also a great location for being away from it all but still an easy drive to Bar Harbor.

We stayed at Pine Cone Cabin last summer for two weeks in August. The cabin itself was fantastic as was the lake. Crystal clear water to swim in but most of all, the loons to sing you to sleep at night...the most beautiful sound. We loved sitting on the dock at night to watch the shooting stars. I don't think we could have had a better Maine experience. Can't wait to come back!!!!!!!!

It has been such a warm Spring and Summer, Green lake is just the right temperature for a refreshing dip. It was 64* at 7:00 this morning and it's going to be a great beach day in the lower 80's. August 28th through closing is still availible. Come on up! Thanks again for the great review. We appreciate great renters as your family.

Pine Cone Cabin was awesome, we stayed for 2 weeks last year in July and we couldn't have picked a greater place or greater host and hostess. Lucy and her husband are wonderful people and they make you feel right at home fom the second you arrive. The cabin is great, we couldn't have asked for anything more. We are coming back again this year.

Having repeat renters that take such good care of our cabin are greatly valued. You, Richard and the girls are welcome anytime. Thanks again for the fantastic review. Lucy
We stayed at Pine Cone Cabin as a last minute getaway over Labor Day weekend. It was wonderful! The interior was recently remodeled and all the linens and appliances were brand new. It looked like the owners went on a major LL Bean shopping spree! We were worried that it might get cold at night, but the fireplace insert heated the cabin well and it was very cozy. We brought our boat, which the owners allowed us to launch on their beach and we kept tied to our dock. We really enjoyed the spacious beach and were pleased that we could wade around in the water and also dive off the end of the dock. We had a great time kayaking using the gear provided. The days were warm and sunny and the nights were cool and crisp. Hopefully we can go back again next summer!

Owner response: Thanks for your kind review of Pine Cone Cabin. I did have a blast shopping for nice things to make Pine Cone a comfy place. So far, all of our renters have asked to return but you are the first to write a review. Thanks again. We have added a full length deep tub since you where here it's very nice for a good soak. The beaver from Fish Island harvested two trees and we have had one winter blow down so the panaramic view is even more beautiful. We have one week left in July and some weeks in June and September. We would love to have you come back to Pine Cone Cabin.
