Why the Owner Chose Ellsworth
Maine has been a special part of my life from the very beginning. My mother's side of the family arrived in Maine in the late 1600's. I grew up as an Air Force brat and my father was stationed at Dow Field in Bangor while I was in high school. Finally about ten years ago, I rented a camp on a nearby lake and passed this wonderful Victorian farmhouse every time we went into town. I purchased The Red Rooster within the year. We have done extensive restoration over the years and it has been truly a labor of love. I get there as often as I can in the summer and fall. I often say, "The Red Rooster owns me, I don't own it!"
The Unique Benefits at this House
The Red Rooster sleeps 15, which makes it a wonderful place for families and small groups to congregate. The completely equipped country kitchen with a cozy wood stove is a gathering place. The entire family can pitch in and enjoy the local bounty of Maine economically without the extra costs of dining out. When our extended family is with us we use the main house, With the addition of our owner's apartment in the carriage house, we can be there even when the main house is rented. Ellsworth is the crossroads to down east Maine and is located midway between Bar Harbor and Bangor. ON Mt Desert Island we enjoy Acadia National Park, with it's rockbound shoreline, Sand Beach, 9 mountains, lakes, and carriage trails. The communities of Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor and many others offer unique atmospheres, shopping, and excellent dining experiences. Bangor offers their international airport, shopping, dining and the new track and casino. Easy day trips to the coastal communities along US Rte 1 both farther down east and west keep us busy. It seems we never have enough time to do all the things we want while we are there.
Incomparable vistas from the tops of 9 mountains overlooking the Atlantic, rockbound coastlines, Sand beach, carriage trails, visit the park website for more information
From the Red Rooster, 25 miles to Bangor and the Bangor International airport with connections to everywhere!

Owner's Map of Ellsworth
As residents of Florida with two winter seasonal businesses (real estate and magazine publishing), we visit our Red Rooster as much as possible in the Summer and Fall. We have lots of friends who share their time between Maine and Florida, so we always have plenty to do in both places. Between us we have 5 children ages 22-37: one son at Florida Gulf coast University, one an Army Special Forces Green Beret, one a Southwest Air flight attendant, one daughter working in Cincinnati, and another is a head librarian for the New Orleans Public Library. We have 5 cats and a dog. We are blessed with a full life and good health.
