i have been investing in real estate in minnesota and wisconsin for 25 years.

when we came on vacation here, the dominican republic reminded me of Hawaii, but at a fraction of the cost. great locally grown coffee is less than 2 bucks a pound here ,fruit is cheap and veggies, chicken and fish are reasonable.
so it has Hawaii weather but living at a fraction of a price. the ocean views here are spectacular, and the breezes keep it cool enough, that i never use the air conditioning ! we think we have developed condos that are a great value, and are in close proximity to the beach, city, everything !

    • I am a professor at the University of Michigan and relocated to Costambar for several months for work. I was so fortunate to find Jack's place in Costambar and the absolutely gorgeous Sea Horse Condos. I have been incredibly impressed by the professionalism of Jack and the staff, who make everything so easy, comfortable, and beautiful. It is a very secure complex close to the beach, with the best views of the ocean in this area. I have been coming to the Dominican Republic for many years for work and pleasure, and have never found such a first-rate long- or short-term rental with such complete full service and security, so close to the beach. The pleasant attitude and helpful "we-go-all-the-way" approach of the owner and the staff truly make this an unusually perfect place to plan either a short-term vacation or a long-term stay.     • Think, Quality and Value!! Quality refers to the new furnitue, beds and lots of cookware and utensils.Now I believe 99% of travellers would want an honest answer to a very important question. How good are the beds, I'm proud to assist you by announcing ,NO Problems. Jack has 5 star beds that you would not expect and a Huge problem for you has been eliminated. Electric outages are still common in the DR and if your renting a place that is not an all-inclusive place, you need to know how good the owners property has provided. During my visit , in mid January of 2009,ther was a rain and wind storm that knocked the power out in a big way. People who have homes in this gated community of Costambar have learned to install backup systems. Well,at one point after 4 days Jack's place was one of the few places (from Jacks rooftop view you could see only one or two lights from other places. Almost every residence had exhausted all the power their back up system could provide)meanwhile At Seahorse all was well, providing hotwater and full power. I urge you to ask other rental owners in the DR what steps they have taken when these power outages occur and you'll get that Jack went alot firther!! The staff are all very warm, friendly, speaking different degrees of English so your needs are understood and attented too, A.S.P.!! Finally, the Value is his rates he charges for all discussed above plus,free internet and Cable TV providing lots of English and French channels, is simply unbeatable. I have done a 2 to 3 month rental in Jamica, Mexico and DR. Any North American who needs to escape our ruthless winters and has decided on going to DR. Jack's Seahorse Condo's are going to keep you smiling everyday in everyway. R. Perlin

    • Great place to stay in Costambar. Everything works in these condos, a rare thing in the DR. There was always hot water and electricity without the sound of a generator. Jack the owner takes pride in his place and it shows. I will be back again!

    • In my view Jack Cameron's Seahorse Condominium rentals offer by far the best value close to Puerto Plata. Having previously rented various other apartments in the area, this was a most pleasant experience. Everything a visitor could desire (but, alas, not necessarily expect in the DR) is on offer: safety, comfort, cleanliness, quiet surroundings, mosquito screens, constant supply of power and (hot) water, personal attention, proximity to beaches, restaurants as well as the city - and at a reasonable price. In addition Jack is just a great guy who will go out of his way to make you feel at home. Highly recommended!

    • If you are looking for an experience in the Dominican Republic that gets you out of the all inclusive and into a safe interesting community, consider Costambar. If you opt for Costambar, Sea Horse villas offer excellent accommodations. They are new, clean, have an excellent swimming pool and our unit had a great king size bed. Resident owner/manager Jack C goes out of his way to make sure your stay is enjoyable. His willingness to share his personal knowledge of the area helped us see more, do more, and have a great trip.

    • A great time in Costambar! I won't reiterate what Elliot from Florida has already mentioned about the very many high qualities this hotel possesses. That is all true. What really makes the difference for me is the hotel's proprietor, Jack. He is a true gentleman, a member of what I am sorry to say is a dying breed. Your enjoyment becomes his personal responsibility. Whether it's arranging a reasonable car rental, providing advice on what to see and do, or introducing you to some very nice, young and beautiful women (pay attention here, guys...), Jack is there to help you, honestly and sincerely. I have never met a kinder or more generous man. I can't wait to get back down there!

    • Firstly, for those who don't know Costambar, it is a relaxing gated community with people from all nationalities. I was pleased that Lonely Planet didn't print anything about it or this area would be overrun with tourists. Jack Camerun, the proprietor of this newly built magnificent structure, is one of the nicest and most caring gentleman I have ever met. I am now proud to call him my friend. The apartments are well furnished and have all the amenities I was looking for. A beautiful well maintained pool, air conditioning and internet. This is also the only building I found with screens on all the doors and windows. They have private parking and a security guard, though I'm sure this private community is very safe. Everything is top of the line here. The King size beds are Sealy, the pots and cutlery are Tramontina, the stereo is Teac, the cable TV is LG etc. They have someone cleaning the rooms and changing linens every few days. The view is breathtaking and it's only a few blocks from an uncrowded beach. They have their own power plant for when the electricity to the area is turned off (quite often). Bottom line is, that as a world traveler, I can confidently say that this place is worth every penny.
