The name Glengarriff comes from "An Gleann Garbh" - the rugged glen - which is derived from the rugged beauty of the mountains and wooded valleys surrounding the village.
Magnificent views of the Caha Mountains and the bulk of Sugarloaf can be seen from the numerous viewpoints along the roads which hug the coastline or wind along the steep sided valleys.
Set along the base of the Caha Mountains outside the village of Glengarriff in West Cork, Glengarriff Woods Nature Reserve are a lush and fertile landscape owing largely to its sheltered position in the midst of a glacially deepened valley. Covering some 750 acres its one of the best examples of oak woodland in Ireland.
Youngfield House extends to c. 2,700 sq ft and is situated on c. 1.3 acres of secluded woodland right in the heart of the Nature Reserve. There is a river flowing along the eastern boundary. It is accessed via a meandering roadway through the Nature Reserve and is approx 3 miles from Glengarriff village.
