This unique property on beautiful Duck Lake comfortably accommodates family or friends in two warm cottages. Laughing Duck Cottage, built in 1930 on the lakefront, supplies the cozy charm of an authentic Up North experience. The Acorn Cottage across the street is a newly constructed house in the Arts & Crafts style with modern amenities, set among the trees with a view of the lake from its living room. The cottages are available for rent together (not separately) during the summer of 2010.

Sip coffee on Laughing Duck’s screened porch and watch the sun rise over the placid lake. Descend the cobblestone stairs to relax on the beach and watch children play in the shallow, sandy-bottomed lake. Read a book on our new 120-foot dock. Take our canoe to fish for bass, bluegill, or pike. Hop in the one-person kayak to spot wild turkeys, muskrats or loons around the 2,000-acre lake. Enjoy a sail in the Sunfish. For more adventures, rent a boat and go waterskiing or tubing. At night, build a fire by the lake to roast marshmallows and watch the stars come out.

Interlochen provides an unparalleled combination of natural and cultural attractions. A quiet ten-minute walk down the street leads to Interlochen State Park, Michigan’s first state park, where you can marvel at one of the Lower Peninsula’s only remaining stands of towering old growth pines. A short walk farther, enjoy a concert at Interlochen Center for the Arts, featuring world-renowned professionals as well as dedicated young performers at the Interlochen Arts Camp.

Within easy driving distance are Sleeping Bear Dunes, one of Michigan’s natural wonders; shopping and dining in Traverse City, Northport, Leland, Glen Arbor; and winery tours on the Leelenau and Old Mission Peninsulas.

Laughing Duck Cottage has one bedroom with a double bed, and another bedroom with twin bunk beds. In the living room, a double-sized sofabed with a combination innerspring/inflatable mattress ensures a good night’s sleep. There’s a big stone fireplace for a warm backdrop to dinners and conversation in the evening. A screened-in porch overlooking the lake provides great sunrise views and a quiet spot for coffee in the morning, or cards and games in the evening. The kitchen and bath (with shower) are small, but are comfortable and well-furnished.

The Acorn Cottage has a bedroom with a queen bed, a queen-sized sofabed in the living room, and a twin-sized rollaway. The Acorn also features a washer and dryer, a modern kitchen with a dishwasher, and a full bath with a tub and shower.

All mattresses and pillows in the cottages are new.

For rainy days, both cottages have cable television and wireless Internet service. A small library of DVDs and a collection of art supplies are available for your use.

The separate cottages are ideal for families or friends who want to enjoy their vacation together, yet have some space and time for themselves, too. They are rented together.
