Ansouis house description
"La Maison des Arches" (featured in the February 1996 issue of Architectural Digest) is situated in the hilltop village of Ansouis, designated by the French Government as "One of the Most Beautiful Villages of France".
The house is facing south and has a large terrace with pool overlooking the surrounding countryside. The property is enclosed with a wall on one side and a pool house on the other, affording total privacy and calm. It is a two minute walk to the local Bakery for fresh bread and croissants. A two minute stroll takes you to a Newspaper/Magazine Shop, a Cafe/Bar frequented by the locals and an excellent Restaurant well-known in the area. A new small "Epicerie" (grocery) has recently opened a few doors from the Post Office. The village also boasts a lovely medieval Chateau with large grounds which is open to visitors.
The house is furnished with lovely antiques and is fully equipped with all amenities, including WiFi and satellite TV. The house layout is as follows:
- 17th C stone vaulted Living Room and Dining Room (16.5 x 31 ft)
- Fully equipped kitchen
-Master bedroom Suite: Queen-size bed, dressing room, bathroom with shower, enclosed toilet, and laundry with washer and dryer
-2 Bedrooms each with twin beds. (In one bedroom the beds can be pushed together.)

-Large covered Terrace (summer living room)
-Pool House (summer dining room)
-Bathroom with toilet and shower
-Exposed Terrace and Swimming Pool (13 x 26 ft; depth 5-8ft)
(Since the pool is deep and near the house, children should be able to swim)

Beautiful, Private home with an Amazing Location
Beautiful, Private home with an Amazing Location
Wow! Our family of 5 just returned from our European vacation and the highlight was our one week spent here in Ansouis. Everything about this rental - from the owners, caretakers, location, neighbours, furnishings, pool, amenities, etc. was perfect! If you are first time travelers to Provence and are having a hard time deciding where to stay choose this home! We were looking for something quiet, private, with a view but close enough to walk to the patisserie every morning - we chose the perfect place. We had many fabulous day trips from Ansouis and also spent many hot hours lounging and swimming. We can't wait to go back one day!

We were two couples at the house for a week, which was delightful. We cooked a great deal in the kitchen which was really well stocked and had several dinner parties on the gorgeous terrace. We loved being within walking distance of our favourite restaurant in the Luberon and enjoying walking around the village. All our contact with the manager and the owners was excellent and they responded and noted anything that was needed, which was in fact very little. As a quick summary: great to have good wifi which was important to us. Outside bathroom was a fab idea. House, pool, kitchen ware were very clean. Lots of towels coat hangers, pillows. We spent a great deal of time at the house, as we had explored the area very well on previous occasions, and found it comfortable, amenable and just a pleasure to hang out in.

What an incredible place! I felt as though we walked through a time machine when entering the gates of Les Arches. The property was percfect in every way. Lovely furnishings, fantastic views, and absolutely immaculate. The owners could not have been more helpful with their suggestions. We visited many hilltop villiages, Roman ruins, and wonderful vineyards. The local produce was unbelievable. I can't wait to return to Ansouis. I highly recommend this as a vaction of a lifetime!

We were fortunate enough to stay in this amazing property for a week in May, 2010. It is a magical house, beautifully furnished, and comfortable, with a terrace and pool that are beyond belief. Each bedroom has its own special charm. The library was a cozy place to enjoy a fire and a glass of wine. The arches are spectacular--beautiful and ancient-feeling at the same time. The kitchen had everything we needed, and was a lovely space to prepare meals with the delicious local produce we found during the day in the area's wonderful markets. We dream of returning!

We spent a lot of our stay in the cool shade of the terrace arches by the pool, relaxing, delighting in our meals, and taking in the spectacular views of the valley below us. The house had a distinct provençal appeal with quiet elegance.

Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: My husband and I have been visiting the Provence and particularly the Luberon area for over 15 years. In 2004, we were fortunate to be able to purchase the beautiful home of our dear friends in Ansouis who were preparing to retire to Paris! We are in love with Provence, in love with Ansouis and in love with our home. In more than 15 years we have yet to exhaust all the beauties and riches of the area. We enjoy sharing our home with those who are discovering the Provence for the first time or returning again to this magical spot. Many of those who rent our home return again!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
From early spring through late autumn, we enjoy living outside on our terrace with views over the beautiful Provencal countryside. We breakfast in the early morning sunshine, lunch in the cool covered terrace area next to the pool and enjoy dinner in the pool house overlooking the valley while watching the sun set. We love the convenience of being situated in the lovely village of Ansouis within a short walk to the bakery, local tabac (newspaper & magazine store)and a first class restaurant while enjoying the complete privacy and "tucked away" feeling of our home perched over the valley. It is indeed a piece of paradise for us.
