Liscoonera House is a unique holiday home overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on Ireland's stunning West Coast. It sleeps up to 14 guests. A large conservatory across the front of the house offers panoramic views of Galway Bay and the Aran Islands. Situated at the end of a private boreen, the house sits in a truly tranquil setting, enhanced by spacious gardens and pond. It is serviced by an ancient well, traditionally known as "The Well That Never Runs Dry." In the recent past the owner has utilized the home as a meditation retreat for those seeking rest and relaxation in a countryside setting on the coast.
The original stone farmhouse, which is over 150 years old, has been extended to include a large main house with accomodation for up to eight, an attached apartment which sleeps two to four, and a detached apartment which sleeps two to four guests..
The main house has been restored to its original charm with rugged stone walls and a large feature stone fireplace in the sitting room. This room gives a warm cozy atmosphere for those fireside, story-telling evenings which will transport you back in time. The kitchen/ dining area is modern and tastefully designed in a country style, offering you everything you need to enjoy your holiday. There are 4 bedrooms in the original house. Bedroom 1, the master bedroom, has a double bed with en suite and features French doors leading out to the conservatory. Bedroom 2 is a twin room with ensuite. Bedroom 3 is a twin room. Bedroom 4 has a double bed and settee.. There is a large shower room serving bedrooms 3 and 4.
The conservatory, the room with a view which will enhance any appetite, has a dining area for up to 14 people.
Apartment one, which has access to the main house through the conservatory, features: Large, comfortable family room designed to take advantage of the magical light of the Burren and views of the surrounding landscape. There is a dining area, comfortable leather suite, and sleeping accomodation for two guests.. Patio doors lead to the BBQ/garden area and Well. Hallway leads to kitchenette and bathroom. Upstairs there is a large double bedroom with unbelievable views in three directions. A feature of this apartment is a private sauna, ideal after a day of surfing, hiking, or swimming (or for recovering on the day after the night before.) Apartment two features: Kitchen/living area with stone fireplace and sliding doors leading to patio/BBQ area and landscaped garden with pond. Shower room. Upstairs there is one double bedroom and a small twin room. This apartment is ideal for those seeking a quiet retreat away from the pace of modern life.
Liscoonera House is situated 1 km from Fanore village with its pub, restaurant, shops, and post office. Fanore is located in the heart of the Burren, a limestone karst region which features caves, rare flora, and prehistoric sites including the 5000 year old Poulnabrone Dolmen. Fanore beach, known in Gaelic as Fan Oir, which means Golden Ring, is a five minute drive from the house. The villages of Doolin, Ballyvaughan and the famous spa town of Lisdoonvarna are within 15 minutes of Fanore. The Cliffs of Moher, one of Ireland's most famous landmarks, is approximately 12 km from the house.
