Ahh, the serenity of island living! Bear Island is the second largest island on beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee. In the 1800's several families farmed here and some old cellar holes and stone walls are still present. The island has about 8.5 miles of shoreline and 200 cabins. All the cabins, however, including ours are along the shore so only a few are visible.
Deer are plentiful on the island and we hear loons most nights. There are no stores on the island, but shopping in Meredith, Center Harbor, and Wolfeboro is very convenient by boat. St. John's-on-the-Lake church is a 10 minute walk away and offers an all-denominational service every Sunday. (Attendance by dogs is permitted and encouraged!)
A few important notes: YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OWN BOAT TO ACCESS THIS ISLAND. Also, we share our 160 feet of lake frontge, beach, and U-shaped dock with one other very friendly family. Please visit the listed website to learn more about our cabin. Rentals are Saturday to Saturday. |
