In our beautiful, colonial town of San Miguel de Allende, the colorful and light-filled, fully self-contained "Casita Shelby" gives you access in 15-20 minutes on foot to the Jardin (central plaza) and all points central. Located in the near-in colonia (neighborhood) of San Antonio, full of its own restaurants, galleries and convenient shops, we are a pleasant flat walk of 3 blocks to the Instituto Allende, 5 blocks to the Parque Juarez, 10 blocks to the Warren Hardy school (one of most popular Spanish schools) and 12 blocks with a slight uphill incline to the Jardin. You’ll be delighted with the wide range of cultural events- lectures and readings, plays and films, Spanish classes, music of every type, fascinating and nearly constant local fiestas, and wonderful impromptu happenings in the Jardin, all in easy walking range. You’ll discover beautiful colonial churches and squares, an incredible library—one of our treasured institutions along with our renowned art schools and theaters - and our richly colonial homes, narrow, cobblestone streets and friendly people. And you’ll find fine restaurants at all levels and of many international cuisines, exercise classes and clubs, hiking and parks, including our 250+ acre botanical garden, and numerous balnearios (hot springs) on the edge of town.
The casita (guest house) and its casa principal (main house), where the owners live full-time, are newly built in colonial style with warm San Miguel colors, hand-painted Mexican talavera tile work and colorful folk art. The casita has a fully-equipped kitchen with colorful dishes, full-size stove and refrig, microwave, coffeemaker, all new. The separate bedroom has a queen bed, richly-tiled bath and full closet. The living room has a gas fireplace for those cool winter evenings and a pull-out sofa bed. You’ll have two terraces, one overlooking the lush central garden, with its tiled fountain, separating the casita from the main house, plus use of the rooftop terrace overlooking the churches of San Miguel. Whole-house purified water; linens included; maid service weekly; and laundry facilities downstairs. All furnishings and appliances are new and carefully chosen for style, usefulness, and comfort.
Occasionally, when we are traveling, as in May and August of 2008, the main house may be rented along with the casita. This adds a sala, dining room, open gourmet kitchen, a large huge master suite with his and her bathrooms, office, terraces and another large garden. Amenities: Sleeps 1-4. Phone, full kitchen with full-size gas stove, refrigerator, whole-house purified water, microwave, coffee maker, dishes and cookware, gas fireplace, sofa bed, linens provided. Laundry facilities downstairs. 3 terraces. No smoking. We have a dog, so usually no pets.
