We are proud to offer for short term rental, the circa 1750 Joshua Phinney house. This house was built by one of Canterbury's earliest families. The main level features an eat in kitchen, bedroom with queen bed, unique pantry, front parlor complete with rockers and TV, full bathroom, enclosed porch, and small stone patio. The second floor is one large room featuring a double bed, TV, and seating area (perfect for a good book).
Take a step back in time and enjoy the atmosphere of early New England settlers. It boasts many early farmhouse type architectural features such as exposed chestnut beams, exposed corner posts, chestnut paneled walls, and original wide board flooring. In addition to the old fashioned charm, this house also features the modern amenities needed to make your stay comfortable and relaxing.
Behind the house is a nice view into a large hayfield. Beautiful stone walls surround. We keep the feeders stocked so the house is also great for bird watching.

Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2008
We are the Noiseux Family, Bob and I bought the house from some of our favorite neighbors. They decided to buy another antique home to restore. We have a small farm and raise dairy goats and laying chickens right across the road from the Joshua Phinney House. We love to meet people from all over the world that come to visit rural New England. We strive to have every amenity for your unique vacation.
The Unique Benefits of this House
This antique home part of the original farm that we own across the street is a unique get away. Offering many things to do and see, and the comfort of an entire home away from home to enjoy. With a lovely view into the hay field behind the home enjoy your morning coffee watching the deer venture through. If you bring younger children there is a lovely yard for them to play in. The gas grill is all set for dinner or drive just down the road to one of the many restaurants located within 5 miles.

Dirty House

Wish the review from Ginny had been posted earlier. We arrived on 10/7 to find the same dirty microwave, stove, etc. We also experienced no heat the 1st night and had to sleep in our clothes. The smoke detector upstairs kept going off and we were told the upstairs light had to stay on or else the alarm would not stop. Only one heating unit in the kitchen could be fixed and not the one in the bedroom. There was leftover articles of clothing under the bed as well as lots of dust bunnies. Everything in the house was dirty and had an unappealing look and feel to it. We began to wonder if the sheets were ever changed between guests. We decided to leave after 3 nights even though we had planned to stay a week. When I contacted Carolyn to tell her our decision ,she promised me a refund for the other 4 nights. To date I have not received it. I would never, ever recommend this property or the other one they manage if this is how they treat their property and guests. The photos do not reflect the true condition of the house. Avoid this property at all costs. We ended up staying at a Fairfield Inn for $89 a night which was easier for us to jump on the highway and most certainly a lot cleaner. I had to check off a rating of poor, but it is more like an F for fail and again, I would never, never recommend this to anyone. Save your money and stay away.

The old coffee grains were still in the pot from the previous renters. The microwave was so dirty we could not use it and the oven was in the same condition. The sofa in the living room smelled so bad that we could not sit in the living room until we got some Frebreze and sprayed it good. We still would not sit on it, since we did not know what cause the order. There was mold in the shower. The dryer was in the cellar which was covered with cobwebs and junk. The dryer had clothes in it from the other renters and the top was dirty and we had to clean it. There was no railing to hold on to going down the cellar stairs. The bedrooms were OK and the area is lovely. We were disappointed and the picture shown must be very old. The furniture was in poor condition.

This historic gem of a property was perfect for our family's vacation. The location is ideal for lots of sightseeing, and the house itself was a fascinating piece of local history located in some beautiful countryside. It was wonderful to return "home" every night after a long day of adventure and get a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed.
Owner response:Thanks for the kind words, We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay!

What a lovely, unique weekend get-a-way! Words can not do justice to the experience of staying in such a well kept period early American home. I was looking for something a "little bit different" to make my mini vacation memorable. This house was certainly that and much more! Thanks
Owner response:We are very glad you enjoyed your stay, come visit us again sometime!
