We had about 5 couples stay at Gordon's house over the weekend for a friend's wedding at the Rabun Pavilion and we absolutely loved the place. There was plenty of space and the fireplaces (both in and out) were such a treat! The beds were very comfortable and the place was very clean. There was firewood outside for us to use also. Gordon had told me that the place was only a 3 min drive to the Pavilion (he was right!) and it was so easy to get back and forth to the wedding festivities. There are restaurants and inns nearby to have food. However, the driveway getting in and out of the place is a little steep - so be careful, especially if it is icy outside! The kitchen was well stocked with everything you needed to cook meals, even spices! The internet worked great up there, but if you have AT&T, forget it - no one's phone had any service, which was kind of a blessing :) I would love to stay at this house during the summer, since it was cold out, but the trees were so beautiful with all the leaves changing. The boat house was relaxing to sit out on in the hammock. The hot tub was especially nice on the cold nights. I would absolutely recommend this place to friends and relatives. In fact, we talked about possibly renting it again next summer with my family. Thank you, Gordon, we had a wonderful time!

August house was a perfect get away for our family. The porch fireplace was our favorite gathering spot. Although too cool to swim, we enjoyed cruising the lake, gawking at the gorgeous lakefront homes, boathouses and mountains. The kitchen was well equipped with lots of dining space for a large group. We'd love to visit again.
Owner response:Thanks very much, Cindy. I hope you will be our guests again in the future. Gordon

We're heading back to August house in early fall for another amazing week. I discovered this home on line last year and absolutely fell in love once we arrived. The photos can't alone describe it's beauty. This is THE place to regenerate. It does a soul good! Pam and Ken

We have just returned from our third stay at the beautiful August House and can't wait to return next year. The highlights were the 7am skiing trips when we had the lake to ourselves and the evenings after dinner on the back porch. We even built a fire one chilly night! The children loved having the downstairs to themselves. The house is very well stocked with spices, beach towels, etc, which really makes you feel at home. We are already looking forward to our next visit to Lake Rabun and August House.

We had a great time at this property. It is very well-stocked (towels, spices, the kind of stuff you don't want to pack) and in a great location. The back porch is great for dining or just hanging out, and there aren't too many steps from the boathouse to the main house! We would definitely stay here again.

Our week on the lake was wonderful. We had some rain, but even that was enjoyable with the covered dock, the wonderful porch with fireplace, and the hot tub. And never have we stayed at a house so well equipped! We lacked for nothing. We've loved Lake Rabun all along, and staying in a lovely house on the lake made us love it even more.

We had a great time at the "August House'! It was wonderful-very beautiful and very relaxing. A group of 8 girls went up for a weekend get-away from Atlanta and it was the perfect distance-not too far but you definitely felt like you were on vacation! Everyone was very impressed with the size of the house and each of us said we would LOVE to book it for another weekend. The outdoor fireplace on the screened-in porch was the best. If you are nervous about booking a house you haven't seen before, August House is the place to rent because you won't be disappointed.

We had two amazing visits to August House this summer and we're not sure which one was the best!!They were both totally relaxing and fun.Waking up in the morning, slipping on a bathing suit and spending the entire day at the boathouse, looking at the beautiful lake, swimming, boating, eating and enjoying the simple pleasures in life is just a piece of heaven!!We truly loved every minute at your beautiful house and can't thank you enough for the opportunity to spend time there with our family!

We had a wonderful time at "August House" for a week. The house was perfect for our group. All 5 teens had a great time tubing on the lake - we practically had it to ourselves. They loving sunning on the boathouse deck, sitting in the jacuzzi & watching movies on the big screen TV. The adults loved the rocking chairs on the porch & having our meals there..almost felt like being in a treehouse! We had a great time talking, reading & boating. What a slice of heaven - we can't wait to go back!

Hi Gordon, Just a quick note to say thank you for a wonderful week at August House. Linda, Clare, & I had a great time- perfect weather, beautiful surroundings, and a home that made us feel comfortable, relaxed, and welcome at every turn. I'm a dedicated slalom-ski fanatic, and I couldn't have asked for better conditions- water as smooth as glass every morning- even my driver (Linda) was eager to get up early- no small accomplishment! The kids stayed wet, (and when they weren't, they were asleep), the TV's stayed off, we taught friends to ski for the first time, and we ate well, and often. As much as we hated to leave, we're looking forward to a repeat visit- please let me know if the week is available again next year- we'd love to make it a regular thing. Please pass along our compliments to you wife, as well- and thanks again for letting us share your home! TR

Four friends and I rented August House for a "girls only" weekend reunion, and had a blast in the Van Mols' beautiful home. August House is so thoughtfully designed--large enough to accommodate a crowd yet cozy-feeling. It is tastefully and comfortably furnished, and there are numerous "hanging-out" spaces, indoors and out--whether one wishes to hang out with others or have a little private time. I would certainly consider renting the house again in the future, and would highly recommend it to others.

Absolute peace, relaxation and tons of laughs at this incredible property. Intiment enough to be like home, large enough to get away from others in a large group for some private time. We sat in front of the fireplaces the entire weekend and even joined the "Polar Bear Club" with a refreshing dip into the cold, blue waters of Lake Rabun. If the owners will have us back, we'll be there sooner than later. Thank you very much Mr. and Mrs. Van Mol!

We spent a long weekend at August House to celebrate my husband's 50th Birthday. It worked well that the drive was only 1 1/2 hours, so all the couples we invited could get there easily. We loved the house - It was warm, friendly and inviting, with lots of space to spread out. With 5 couples, we didn't feel crowded. And the lake is beautiful. We had a lot of fun boating around to see all the scenic properties. I would recommend this house to all my friends.

Comment Text: I spent a week at August House with a group of friends. We were completely thrilled with the house, boathouse, jacuzzi, and of course, the view of the lake and mountains. The house is beautifully decorated and we did not feel like we were staying in a rental. We all commented that we felt that we were visiting someone's home. Lake Rabun is beautiful. We had some lovely weather(including a rain storm!). We ate at Louie's for pizza 2 nights!

We had our family reunion at the August House and it was wonderful. The house was beautiful and the cove was great for the kids to swim. We really loved the decks and spent most evenings on them. Location of house close to many area attractions. The kids never got bored. We have made reservations to return next summer.
